HOULTON, Maine — A Mapleton man who was the subject of a search by the Maine Warden Service after he did not return home from a hunting trip as planned on Sunday was found dead on Monday night.
Acting Lt. John Cote of the Maine State Police said Tuesday that Mark Brazier, 27, was located by a family friend at 2nd Musquacook Lake in Township 11 Range 11 about 9:30 p.m. Monday.
Brazier was reported missing after he didn’t return home on Sunday as expected from a bird hunting trip, according to police Sgt. Brian Harris. Harris said Brazier had gone hunting alone on Saturday and stayed overnight in the woods.
Stephen McCausland, spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety, said Tuesday that the death was not suspicious.
Cote said no further details would be released.
The lieutenant added that the warden service was thankful for the public’s assistance.

Very sad may he rest in piece.
I think there may be an important part of this story missing, he was found but was he found alive??????
No
The story dose not say.
The story DOES say, right in the first paragraph.
Uhhh The story’s first edition didn’t say it, hence the ‘last modified at 4:33’ notation under the headline…
Why is this listed as happening in Houlton?
Houlton is where the State Police Barracks are located.
I live near Mapleton where he was from, and was just told by a neighbor of mine that she heard that they found him but not alive.. If this is true very sorry for his family.
They are being respectful of someone that has tragically passed. All the gory details do not need to be published. All you need to know is that he was found. The people that need to know what happened do. Be respectful of Mark. RIP Mark.
Many of us in Maine have friends and family members whose gory or tragic passing has been plastered all over the media. Why do you think some families get the “plastered all over the media” treatment while others have the “respectful” treatment?
I agree with you this time. While I’m glad that Mark and his family are given privacy, so too should many other victims and families of similar tragic events.
Then you should be happy that the headlines spared this family the details needlessly being released. You should direct your attention towards the times the details were released, not at the times they were not.
I think it has to do with the nature of the death and they feel they could have more readers come to their site if they plaster the details of that person’s passing. We don’t need to know all of the gory details – we don’t have that right. I am glad that they didn’t do that with this one. May his family find peace – I am so sorry for your loss.
“All the gory details do not need to be published.” Come on! They report that a 27-year-old man was found dead! Of course we want to know details. Did he freeze to death? Natural causes? Something else? We only have half the story…
Need to know basis.
You/we dont qualify.
Move along , nothing to see here folks.
“Did he freeze to death? Natural causes? Something else? We only have half the story…”
Those questions will be left to the Medical Examiners office to answer.
No doubt, but my point being don’t publish if it’s that ambiguous. A simple, “Authorities suspect natural causes pending a medical examination” would have sufficed UNTIL the ME’s report. You don’t report “a 27-year-old was found dead” without expecting the public to question.
I think a better statement would have been “Authorities are withholding comment on the cause of death pending the completion of an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner”.
Same idea, but yours was much better written!
Why so curious?! Do you thrive on the gory details? All that matters is that a young man passed away.
You interpreted post incorrectly. Go back and read the post I was responding to. There many reason why this young man died and the causes are and should be left up to Maine’s MEs office.
Sorry – you’re right! My bad!!
If you read between the lines, it sounds like a suicide, not a conspiracy. Leave it be.
Well then, come out and say it. Stop fueling the conspiracy theory and be honest. Newspapers shouldn’t be read “between the lines”. They are to report accurate news.

The important part of this story is if you venture out into the Maine wilderness alone be prepared for the worst. Have a survival kit first aid kit, and means to make a fire!
He was located over near Clayton Lake where there are alot of camps on the lake and such that he could have wandered into for shelter. This is what I had hoped..
Yes everyone he was found deceased what happened is up to his family to release I would say! I have been his friend for 15 years and when people are ready to talk about it they will I still don’t know! But please for his families sake be respectful, he was a young man taken too soon what the circumstances were are besides the point! During this time of mourning they don’t need the additional pressure to release what happened! RIP Mark Brazier you are loved and missed dearly by all who knew you!
So sad….Loving thoughts and prayers going out to the family.
One would have to believe that he must of killed himself. I dont see how this would be hard to figure out. Maybe not but by the way that the people are talking on here that is my assumption. I am sorry for his familys loss but I also agree that why publish a story like this and not post how? There are alot of other families that wish that their dirty laundry not be plastered but it happens anyway.
