BANGOR, Maine — The three people found dead Monday in a house in Alton were identified Tuesday morning by the Maine State Police as Scott J. Reed, 43, his wife, Danielle Reed, 39, of Alton and Daniel Young, 41, of Bradley.
Officers found the bodies inside the home at 326 Alton Tannery Road, according to Lt. Christopher Coleman of the Maine State Police.
Police were dispatched to the house after receiving a call at 7:25 p.m. from a woman who had entered the residence and found one of the deceased men. After police responded and searched the home, they found the bodies of another man and a woman.
State police called in the Major Crimes Unit and gathered evidence at the property into the early morning hours and will continue through Tuesday.
“The three bodies at some point will make their way to Augusta, where autopsies [will] be done and that will also help us piece together what happened,” Coleman said early Tuesday morning.
Coleman would not say what police believe to be the cause of death, stating that the medical examiner would determine the cause. He said nothing that happened at the scene should prompt residents to take greater than normal safety precautions.
Police briefly shut down Tannery Road from Route 43 to Route 16. The road has since reopened to traffic. Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Old Town police initially responded to the report as well as state police.

I live in rural York County and can often hear automatic and semi-automatic gunfire after dark and outside of hunting season. A couple years ago my neighbors were fighting loudly and there was an earth shattering bang, followed by silence. I called police and after investigation they called to tell me there was nothing to be concerned about because my neighbor had just been firing his cannon. Seriously.
There is more murder and mayhem and drugs in the boonies than portland wtf I thought country folk were suppose to be nice and mellow ??!!! This is crazy. Is this the new normal??
Rural folks, unfortunately, are just as at risk for substance abuse due to the economic stressors of poverty in these areas. I know people get upset when everyone jumps to conclusions, but we’ve seen the trends in our state lately, and these suspicious deaths have all seemed to have a connection to illegal activity.
Way too many deaths in Maine lately…….drugs and no respect for life seem to be big factors.

All that could be true. There is so many factors when it comes to death. The blame band wagon is on the prowl. Could have been carbon monoxide poisoning as well, that time of year.
Why would they say home owners do not need to take extra safety precautions ? Seems like if it was carbon monoxide they would encourage people to make safety checks on thier homes .
Because the autopsies haven’t been done yet to determine the cause of their deaths.
Well that sounded to me that it was safe to be in that neighborhood, meaning there was no worry that anyone else was in danger of maybe being killed by someone. Not sure what to think about all of it. But it is the time of year that people are going to get sick or die of carbon monoxide poisoning.

aweful lot of assaults, homicide, mayhem, and “PENDING FURTHER INVESTIGATION” going on the last few months. People shot to death in the
front yard, several dead in the house, two this week found dead in their vehicles.
One in the road one in the parking lot. 3 in a plane crash that we may never
hear another thing about. Even the street people are killing each other. Saco motel
murder this week. And a lot of this stuff seems to be so “secret”. WTF?
Afterall, we should know SOMETHING about the guy shot in the dooryard last
week. Home invasions, Rite-Aide robberies once a week. Geezus, buy ammo….in bulk.
When there’s nothing for people to do, like work, this always happens.
The problem began many years back, when this government decided to sell worthless bonds to China, out of greed. It started when big power players convinced the government to let them leave this country for cheap labor (and crap products) and no import fees.
It amazes me that people think this same government is going to create jobs, no folks this is the New World Order….and yet the president continues to have worthless money printed, people continue to vote in bonds, people continue to make welfare a career choice. Thats not a mistake, the government has helped promote it.
I would suggest people vote out the federal government, vote out the IRS, dump most of the politicans, get rid of medical insurances, make health care affordable, (if everyone else can learn to live on less, so can the people in the medical business) and start from scratch. I would also suggest people better find something their good at and start making it and selling it, better start learning to grow and preserve food. When people are that busy, they don’t have time to get in trouble. Just my observation in the last 60 years.

The murders (if this is what this is) and robberies are as always disturbing, though the numbers don’t lie. Violent crime in Maine is perennially near the very bottom in the nation (edit – that is per capita). Though don’t tell Chicken Little and Henny Penny, they’re having a great time clucking.

well…. on the radio, they said they were called initially for gunshot fire….if this is in fact the case, unless it is murder, murder, suicide, I am thinking it may pose a threat to the public. The day is coming, we cannot keep going on like this. I know they do a good job catching drug dealers, murderers, child molesters, burglars and so on, but they need to either keep them in jail or an asylum whichever is appropriate for a very long time and the one that actually “thinks” they are ready to go, should be held accountable for their actions afterwards. These judges would stop being so lenient if they ended up in jail for letting the other ones walk so freely. My heart goes out to the families of the three.

Carbon Monoxide poisoning maybe?
This in my mind is the effect of a weak economy…options are few for a lot of folks. In our hallowed glory years, there was near full employment of good paying work. That just ain’t the case anymore for too many people and I think people are pretty desperate in rural Maine. Kids I coached in peewee basketball are major criminals.
I took a 20 mile ride around my neighborhood and I bet 1/3 of the houses in that ride were unoccupied and growing weeds. That’s a lot of displaced people.
Yeah…..weak economies kill……it’s clearly never the actions of some nut job who kills people…it’s the economy.

the one crime that does seem to be increasing out of proportion to the population is rape. maybe we should be talking about that instead of alleged glory days.

Yet we have people today that want to ban abortion. Give them out like hot cakes and you just solved welfare and crime. Giving them out would save sooo much more then they would cost.

Actually, I think the unemployment cause everyone is ranting about is completely false. There are many reasons for crimes like these to happen, but I think when the story comes out, you’ll find that unemployment had nothing to do with it. Did you just refer to murder as a habit, by the way?

first of all, notice the tape stating “CRIME SCENE”, so I guess you may be able to rule out CO2 poisining!
Treating a scene where 3 are dead as a crime scene is normal procedure, even if evidence of foul play isn’t readily available.
It would be nice however, if some clue as to the COD were given.
That’s just what the tape says. It’s not as though they have another roll of tape in the car that says WE’RE NOT QUITE SURE WHAT’S GONE ON HERE YET DO NOT CROSS.

Boy its so easy to judge and assume before you know all the facts. 3 Separate Families are involved that just heard about this (I am one of them). How sad that many of you have no respect or empathy and no clue as to the truth. It’s tragic all the way around. I will say there were no drugs involved and it was domestic. So please if your going to say something give respect to the families that are in extreme pain right now that also have a lot of questions that will never be answered
