PORTLAND, Maine — A Portland man is facing an aggravated assault charge after an altercation with another man early Thursday, according to police.

Police were called to Danforth Street early Thursday after it was reported that Michael Brown, 24, and another man were fighting, city spokeswoman Nicole Clegg said Friday.

Brown had followed a group of people down the street, included the victim and a woman Brown had a previous relationship with, Clegg said.

During the altercation, Brown produced a knife, which he used to assault the victim, then fled the scene, she said.

The victim suffered a neck laceration and was listed in stable condition Friday at Maine Medical Center.

Brown was charged with elevated aggravated assault, a Class A felony, according to Clegg. He remained at the Cumberland County Jail on Friday.
