LEWISTON, Maine — U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe is campaigning in Maine for her former longtime aide, Kevin Raye, in his bid for Congress.

Raye is running as the Republican candidate against five-term incumbent Democrat Mike Michaud for the state’s 2nd Congressional District.

“He is a consensus builder,” Snowe said of Raye during a lunchtime stop at Simones’ Hot Dog Stand in downtown Lewiston. “He has already demonstrated that in his capacity as president of the Maine Senate.”

Snowe made the rounds shaking hands with diners with Raye in tow. Raye took the opportunity to hand out campaign fliers and listen directly to voters.

Raye previously worked for Snowe for 17 years, including more than six years as her chief of staff in Washington.

Snowe said she was campaigning with Raye because she has witnessed his work ethic and political philosophies first hand when he worked for her in Washington.

“He appreciates the necessity of bipartisanship,” she said. “And that is to say bipartisanship not as a political theory but as a political necessity for the best interests of people that he is serving and for the best interests of the nation – he understands that.”

Snowe, who is not running for re-election to the U.S. Senate, was campaigning with Raye on Monday. They spent time in Auburn and Lewiston in the morning. Then made stops in Bangor in the afternoon, including at Maine Aero Services.

The day ended with a fundraising reception for Raye that also paid tribute to Snowe’s 34 years in the U.S. House and Senate.

    1.  Snowe last served in the US House (the seat Raye is running for)  in 1995. Are you sure you are excited about someone picking up where she left off almost 10 years ago?

  1. “U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe joined Raye on Monday as he campaigned for Snowe’s seat in the U.S. Senate.” I honestly could have sworn Kevin was running for Mike’s seat for U.S. Congress. Little did I know apparently!

    1. He really isn’t running for Mike Michaud’s (empty) seat.  As another republicrat once said, he’s running for the peoples’ seat…

  2. The United States and the State O’Maine are in very bad shape, I must remind all, Snowe buddied up
George W. Bush, she could not see the folly of the Iraq invasion, and it bankrupt the U.S., Maine has suffered under both Snowe and Collins, they have practically ignored Maine, except when a good headline opportunity comes along. If this Raye has been associated with Snowe for 17 years, then, DO NOT VOTE FOR RAYE, he has learned from Snowe, and Snowe is just using Maine, really, has she expressed any real interest in Maine, she lives in DC, Raye, just another dangerous Republican, trying to get elected on the coat tails of Snowe, we do not want either one.

  3. Oly should know better. The only time that Raye does anything in a bi-partisan way is when it either benefits him or he has no other choice. His sudden urge to go bipartisan last year wit the Budget Act was proof of that. His now calling for budget and tax reform, while making no secret of his intent to follow Grover and his friend’s, is another sure sign that he’s going to do all he can to stall and delay what is so badly needed. And Oly should be seeing this. And she’s endorsing another stall and delay type ? The need for reform has never, ever, been more clear.

  4. It is about time Olympia has come out in support of Kevin, There is still much work to be done over the next two weeks to inform folks about Kevins accomplishments, and  about the lack of representation we the people of Maine are getting in Washington from  Mike Michaud. Mike has done little to nothing to help improve the business climate in his district. Kevin Raye will work to improve this States image that has been tarnished from mike Michaud one of Obamas rubber stamp soldiers.
     KEVIN RAYE ALL THE WAY

    1. For those who aren’t aware, Charlie Summers actually worked for and with Olympia Snow for years.  Why does she not campaign for him?  Makes one wonder what she knows about him that some of us don’t.  It also makes me wonder why the press hasn’t asked her that obvious question.

Update. She has been asked. In her view Charlie snubbed her when her campaign asked for his support earlier this year (before she decided not to run). Charlie not wanting to anger his Tea Party base chose not to support Olympia who had angered the Teas by actually supporting something the Democrats had proposed a couple of times.

      1. She, and Sen. Raye, are Republicans in Name Only.  Perhaps Summers is too much true Republican for her.

        1. And the Republican presidential nominee – former Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney?  Do you consider him a RINO too?

          1. What I think is that it is necessary to define a true republican.  I use Reagan as the modern standard bearer.  It is too close to impossible for a Reagan Republican to be elected right now because they would have to convince a public, which has been bludgeoned with the notion they should be dependent on a government to care for their basic needs, that they can/should take care of themselves.  I do not think Romney is a Reagan Republican.

I hope he is elected and proves me wrong.

          2. MN — I presume that you hate women as much as the Romney/Ryan ticket does, or that you have no woman in your life whom you love, given your beliefs. Have you ever switched the channel on your TV from Fox “News” to . . . maybe picking up a newspaper for an alternative perspective (other than any publication owned by Rupert Murdoch)? I do not hate women: I love my mother, my daughters, and my sisters and, in so doing, there is no way I can vote to return our country to 1950s social policies especially regarding women.  Open your eyes, MN.

But I know that there’s no way for you to open your mind to some other perspective. You are too comfortable in the familiar, even if uninformed or detrimental to those whom you love. I’m sorry for you, Neighbour.  I sadly suspect that you will spend the next four years committed to cultivating your hate, and setting your agenda to ensuring that no black man ever occupies the highest office in the land — as the Republican leadership has done since Day #1 of Obama’s presidency yet somehow still consider themselves patriots. You call yourself “MaineNeighbor,” but I am grateful that you live nowhere near me in Maine. I expect more intelligence and open-mindedness from my Maine neighbors and they always seem to deliver.  Good luck to you, pal.

          3. It appears you assume to know a lot about me.  My ethnicity?  My gender?  Your vitriol makes ME look like a hater?  Interesting.

          4. Y’know, PeeMom, I’ve never understood how a Republican on occasion thinking for him- or herself somehow represents some kind of deficiency.  Neither Party line is completely reasonable, but for anyone who is or loves a woman, I would think the GOP is the greater of the two evils. My sense is that your television is on more than 10 hours/week, and that the radio in your car is set to talk_radio, given your comment. I do not understand how hatred of people who think differently than you do takes precedence over our love for the United States of America.  And here you’re faulting someone for thinking independently and exercising keen judgment. I want to ask, “What is wrong with you?” but instead I’ll simply ask, “Is there no room in your limited world-view for people who love America as much as you might but who think differently than do you?”

          5. Your comment makes no sense in relation to mine.  I asked MN about Romney, because as someone who was raised by a Reagonite, it astounds me that Republicans attack someone like Snowe and call her a RINO, when she is “with the party” 70% of the time.  The Republican party is destroying itself with this RINO garbage.  What happened to the “Big Tent?” (Not that I really care – I don’t belong to either party).  As to your accusations, no TV, no talk radio & where in my comment did you detect “hatred?”

      2. Kevin’s Communications Director, Scott Fish once worked for Olympia too.
For very good reason she had him fired,
it was one of smartest moves she has ever made.

  5. Somehow this sadly brings to mind how the Bush administration leveraged Colin Powell’s credibility to assert to the U.N. that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction which, of course, was a lie. So totally beneath the Hon. Senator to have to celebrate a candidate’s non-existent record of consensus-building and bipartisanship, even if they are buddies. I still feel bad for Gen. Powell, and now I feel bad for our beloved Senator Snowe.  So beneath her. I can’t even imagine how many antacids she had to consume today — and no, it probably wasn’t the hot dogs.

  6. what about the charter schools funding and joc’s involvement whens this all coming to light ,after she gets who she wants in office? think about it shes delt with the negitives in washington since she got there.

  7. An endorsement by Snowe is hardly worth the stale breath that produced years of mediocrity and satchels of personal wealth for someone who was willing to climb on board with the Obama Health Care tax program. No, Snowe’s voice does not ring true to  large number of Mainers who witnessed support for infanticide and deficit spending by the retiring public servant!

  8. Mike Michaud has been a strong supporter of veterans, economic growth and bipartisan solutions. Raye has a record of incompetence and blind party loyalty. It’s a clear choice.

    1. I am a Vietnam vet who thinks Mike is a phony when it comes to us.  Show me an example of his work towards economic growth and as for bipartisan solutions he votes party line .

    2. Bipartisan- BULL,,, Mike does not and has not helped those that have never voted for him
Media Mike has “”No”” knowledge, and or “”Any”” history of economic development, economic growth or having shown any interest….!

  9. Kevin Raye has done more to create jobs in Maine than Media Mike— but then again, Mike has done NOTHING to create jobs…!

I’d rather vote for someone that knows how to create a paycheck, than some forklift operator that only knows how to cash them…!

Better a businessman, than an Obama lackey

    Vote
    Romney/Ryan
    Raye
    Summers

  10. Snowe has her sights set some-kind of post-Senate career. She’s currently making robo-calls in Massachusetts for that slimy sexist and bigot Scott Brown. Is she really thinking about 2016?
