Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is poised to win one of Maine’s electoral votes if the results of a poll released Thursday hold true through the Nov. 6 election.
The Maine Democratic Party quickly criticized the poll’s results because of high-level Republican operatives behind it and the fact that the raw poll data have not been released.
Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, in the northern part of the state, supports Romney over President Barack Obama by 5 percentage points, 49 percent to 44 percent, a result that according to a story by Politico is outside the NMB Research poll’s margin of error. On a statewide basis, Obama leads 48 percent to 44 percent, which means he would get two of Maine’s four electoral votes. Obama also presumably would win the 1st District, giving him a third electoral vote in Maine.
Maine is one of only two states in the country that splits its electoral vote by congressional district. If Romney wins in the north, he would receive one of Maine’s four electoral votes, which given the closeness of the race conceivably could tip the results in Romney’s favor. According to a New York Times polling analysis blog called FiveThirtyEight, the probability that Maine’s 2nd Congressional District could decide the election stood at 0.7 percent as of Thursday, a scenario that ranked 10th as a probable outcome among battleground states. The likelihood that the electoral vote could be decided in first-place Ohio, by comparison, was about 44 percent, according to the blog. Maine has not voted for a Republican in a presidential election since 1988.
Politico reports that Glen Bolger of NMB Research polled 500 likely voters on Oct. 7 and 8, giving the poll a margin of error of about 4 percent. It was unknown how many of the people polled were from the 2nd District.
NMB Research, based in Alexandria, Va., is known to have done hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of survey research for a pro-Romney super-PAC, Restore our Future. According to NBC News, the firm doesn’t list any owners or partners but is located next door to Public Opinion Strategies in Virginia, a partner in which, Neil Newhouse, is Romney’s chief pollster. NBC News reported in March that mail for NMB Research is delivered to Public Opinion Strategies.
Lizzy Reinholt, spokeswoman for the Maine Democratic Party, called NMB Research’s results, which were widely different from what other public polls have shown, highly suspect.
“This was a leaked poll from a super-PAC controlled by [prominent Republican campaign strategist] Karl Rove,” said Reinholt. “Our own polling is light years different, which is why I don’t trust it. Without knowing the methodology there’s no way to know how they did the polling. The notion that Romney would have jumped that much so quickly, that’s enough to know there’s a trouble sign in the polling methodology.”
Maine GOP Chairman Charlie Webster said Friday that Romney’s lead in northern Maine didn’t surprise him and that he has expected Romney to do well there for several months.
“I’ve believed that from the beginning,” said Webster. “Even three months ago our numbers kept getting better and better.”
Asked how likely it would be for Maine to vote Republican in the presidential race after 24 years of voting Democrat, Webster said “Maine hadn’t elected a Republican Legislature for 38 years before the last time, either.”
In late September, polls by well-known firms Pan Atlantic SMS and Rasmussen Reports showed Obama with a lead of 14 and 12 percentage points, respectively.

Why the 2nd district would vote Republican is baffling to me. Can anyone in the 2nd district point out how the Republicans have helped us?
the 2nd district is more rural, populated with many independent, self-reliant people who do not like government dictating every detail of their lives
Government dictating every detail of their lives such as… who should marry who, freedom of a woman right to choose, whether those who choose should be allowed to watch porn. The conservative christian right is most pro-government intrusional force out there!
Ummm its the government dictating those things you object to.
Heck NO! I don’t need any Bible toting zealot to tell me how to run my life. You like a theocracy? Emigrate to Saudi Arabia, Iran etc. I am sure they would be glad to have you.
Dave, Right now its the government enforcing those things. The bible-toters have no power to do so.
There are a couple of bible toters on the science commitee in Congress that have some power. Rep. Paul Broun (R) and that other genious Akin are members in good standing. Here’s Brouns take on science: http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/10/rep-paul-broun-r-ga-evolution-big-bang-lies-straight-from-the-pit-of-hell.php?ref=fpb
But again, That is the government they have a right to be part of.
Yeah, take that, and then live in downeast Maine, that’ll teach ya.
Ummm it’s conservative Christians using the government to dictate those things.
Never the less its big intrusive government that is the problem.
That’s fine if you think that. But a large portion of those whining about big government have no problem using big government against those they disagree with. It’s inconsistent and that’s what was being pointed out.
Has so much BS ever come out of Maine?
That is an easy question to answer. It comes from flatlanders and those outa-statahs who have come here to enforce their BS on us.
I prefer to stand on my own two feet. My freedom is not worth the price of any entitlement!
I agree 100%. I am not asking for help from the government but I also don’t want any Bible based legislation telling me any “thou shalt nots”
And while we are on the point of freedom. Neither the Democratic or Republican candidate is a pro-freedom loving American. They both support the NDAA which allows indefinite detention without trail. They both support the Patriot Act etc.
i agree the Patriot Act is a piece of garbage. you also will notice freedom issues like property rights never get brought in a debate
“I agree 100%. I am not asking for help from the government but I also don’t want any Bible based legislation telling me any ‘thou shalt nots.'”
Riiiight.
Murder and theft on your to-do list, Dave?
Murder? Well no, but if I did… there are many ways that I could justify killing as described in various scenarios in the Bible. But really, usually only the small minded and naive actually take that book seriously. ;)
You are right
Oh, you mean like reproductive rights, marriage rights, increases in health care costs for seniors, suppression of wages, limiting access to the voting booth….. need I go on? You cannot say government out and support any of these attempts to regulate our lives.
Why the 2nd district would vote is baffling to me. Can anyone in the 2nd district point out how the politicians have helped us?
I can point out how they will help you tremendously, by stopping O’sham-a is how. I think you are saying that in jest………now come on admit it.
Can any one in the 2nd district tell me how 30+ years of Democratic control has helped us?
can anyone tell me how 8 yrs of bush republican/neo-con control has helped us?
Sub $2.00 a gallon gas, was kind of nice. Sub 8% UN-employment was kind of nice.
Using factual information like this only confuses some people…..
Presenting lies as fact confuses the weak-minded. Anyone coming to this forum looking for cogent information based in fact with which to inform their personal opinions is a fool of the highest order.
Yup, those are democrats to a T.
Gasoline spiked at over $4 a gallon under Bush – crude oil went to $147 a barrel.
We were losing 800,000 jobs a month under Bush.
The reason the gas prices crashed is because Bush and the GOP crashed the economy.
Do you really believe that people forget this?
LOL!
You forgot one thing. YESSAH!
These people seem to think that you can just wave a wand and everything in the last 20 years will change!
They are time concept deprived!
I only wish someone would teach a liberal what actually crashed the economy.
Note – it wasn’t the Bush tax cuts (which Obama and Biden seem to support for 99% of us)
Tell us about the economy under Bill Clinton.
Bushonomics gave us a massive deficit, an unpaid war of Lies and economic disaster.
Yessah
Clinton economy was a house of cards just like his foreign policy. It all went up in cigar smoke.
Some facts for uninformed liberals:
Federal spending during Clinton’s last year in office: $1.8 trillionFederal spending during Obama’s last year in office: $3.8 trillionhttp://www.usgovernmentspending.com/totalFederal revenue during Clinton’s last year in office: $2.0 trillion (after slashing cap gains tax)Federal revenue before Clinton cut capital gains tax (1996): $1.4 trillionFederal revenue during Obama’s last year in office: $2.5 trillionFederal revenue during Bush’s last year in office: $2.5 trillion
In other words, statistics show us that a) we don’t have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem and b) cutting taxes actually increases federal revenue, regardless of what Dems would have you believe.
How could we possibly have survived during the Clinton years on a budget that is less than 1/2 of what we spend today?
Cutting taxes increases revenue? Where does federal revenue come from? Taxation. Decreasing taxation decreases federal revenue. I agree that decreased spending increases revenue, but you can’t just look at the spending side of the ledger and expect it all to work out. Cutting taxes does not decrease revenue. Your accounting is as flimsy as Ryan’s.
Wrong – decreasing taxation yields increased federal revenues. Look at the revenue figures after the Kennedy, Reagan and Bush tax cuts and see what happened. Cutting tax rates spurs economic growth, which drives revenues. It’s been proven time and time again.
Please enlighten me as to how taking in less money alone equals more money in the coffers.
You were told, but you don’t want to see the real answer. Reducing federal tax rates always results in an immediate revenue loss for the govt, but in a very short time, revenues jump to much higher than they were before the cuts were made. When people get to keep more of their money that they work hard to earn, economic activity increases, leading to more people making money and paying taxes on it. Lowering tax rates is a win-win both for the economy and the govt. Too bad Dems can’t seem to do the math that’s right in front of their faces.
Do you really think that people will keep more of their money?
When Employers see the Tax Savings that their employees recieve they don’t give out raises and keep the cash for themselves to stash in Cayman Island Accounts!
The Republican Mantra ALSO is agains’t minimum wage increases and unionization!
We aren’t that gulible we know the only thing that Buisness Tax Rate Reductions do is help them keep more of thier money!
Period!
All else is assumption!
Did you look at the revenue figures after the Kennedy, Reagan and Bush tax cuts? Have you heard what John F. Kennedy said about tax cuts and economic growth? Or are you unwilling to challenge your ignorance?
“Our true choice is not between tax reduction on the one hand and the avoidance of large federal deficits on the other. It is increasingly clear that no matter what party is in power, so long as our national security needs keep rising, an economy hampered by restrictive tax rates will never produce enough revenues to balance our budget, just as it will never produce enough jobs or enough profits.” ~ President John F. Kennedy in his 1962 speech to the New York Economic Club.
Cutting income taxes during Harding’s tenure also increased federal revenue.
I couldn’t agree more. Nicely said
Because the U.S. dollar was in free-fall during the laast years of Clinton, and under Bush.
You guys really need to take an economics course.
LOL….due to the fed setting interest rates at record low levels….
price fixing the value of money never works, never has, never will
the one who needs an economic course is YOU sir…
He signed NAFTA.
You’re correct in your assumption that the crash wasn’t caused by the Bush tax cuts. These cuts helped balloon the debt.
Don’t tell me it was done single handedly by Barnnnneeeeyy Frwwwaaannnkk!
LOL!
Gas had fallen back to a national average of about $1.65 a gallon by late fall of 2008. Blame Bush, credit Obama, whatever, but it wasn’t still $4 a gallon by the end of his term.
Of course it all is really about speculators working in concert with world wide peak oil production, but if you all want to blame/credit the various presidents, let’s at least get more of the facts on the table.
Read”House Of Saud”A fascinating book that the oil companies, etc. tried to bury.
No one tried to bury The House of Saud!! What paranoia do you subscribe too. I first read it before the first Gulf War sometime in 1990. That book resides on my shelf and is a better reference for the collusion and marriage of the Islam Wahabbi version of Islam to the House of Saud. Oil allowed that marriage to happen. There is nothing deep dark or secret in that book and references therein are found all over the place.
It is a good book to read but not for the twisted reasons you suggest.
I’m not saying what’s IN the book was buried-that the book itself was tried to be buried. Also,if you haven’t read any of Robert Yergin’s books on oil geopolitics, they’re worth reading. The Prize came out in the late 70’s and has been updated. He has a new one also.Wahhabism is some very scary stuff.
Joe is that you.
George Bush is –Valdamort — to the Republican’s!
He who must Not Be Named!
LOL
Where are you getting those numbers? Oh, the internet, okay, I get it now.
maybe, but he is ending his term at $4.00 a gallon. look at Obama’S deficit, the amt of soldiers killed in Afghanistan since he has been in office. It goes both ways.
The president has no control over gasoline prices.
If he approved the Keystone Pipeline, prices would be much lower and employment would be much better!“President Obama’s decision to reject the Keystone XL crude oil
pipeline is as shocking as it is revealing. If Americans want to
understand why unemployment in the United States has been stuck above 8
percent for the longest stretch since the Great Depression, decisions like this one are the place to begin.
“By declaring that the Keystone pipeline is not in the ‘national
interest,’ the president demonstrates a lack of seriousness about
bringing down unemployment, restoring economic growth and achieving
energy
Lets see the first 6 years under a republican pres, senate and congress had the stock market going through the roof. Dems came in in Jan 2007 and everything went down hill after that.
The stock market did not crash in 2007 because of who was in charge of the Congress that year, or the Presidency for that matter. It did so because the GOP and Clinton neo-liberals allowed Wall Street to turn the financial sector into Las Vegas with most of the resulting risk falling on the government when it bailed out their mistakes.
So you admit it wasn’t the republicans fault. Thank you. It was the banks fault and people getting 300,000+ dollar home loans. When they knew they couldn’t afford them. The biggest problem is that kids want to live like their parents do. They haven’t figured out it took their parents probably 20 + years to get to where they are financially.
I believe seamus said it was not just the repubs fault. The dems also have corporatists in their ranks that voted with the repubs to de-regulate Wall Street and led directly to the collapse of the economy.
Vote Green, y’all.

Predatory lending does involve two parties. However, the large firms made money hand over fist on credit default swaps and were held to hardly any accountability when these instruments evaporated. Holders of underwater mortages have been much less lucky with the ensuing bankruptcy and financial ruin. Perhaps if the consequences had been as dire for each party in these loans there would be more truth to your assignment of blame. But when the rich party assumes no risk and the poor party is bankrupted by the transaction, your analysis fails to account for the result.
You seem to revel in a lowered living standard or blame it on a spoiled generation instead of decades long wage stagnation and accompanying wealth transfer from the middle-class to the very wealthy. That’s the real wealth transfer that has occured over the past thirty years.
No I don’t revel in a lower living standard. I’m struggling just like everyone else. But I don’t blame the government or the rich. I chose the job I have. I have given 100% to my job and my pay reflects that. I was put in management a few years back and I raised my level of living. I bought a house that I could afford, I have one vehicle payment not two(my other vehicle is 13 years old), I pay my credits cards off every time my income tax comes in and I don’t have to live like the Joneses to impress my friends.
People need to take accountability for themselves.
I wasn’t talking about one man’s credit rating. The scenario for the Credit default swap meltdown occured prior to banks pushing bad loans. Bankrupt homeowners are far down on the list of the corrupt in that mess. Your own success has little to do with the chicanery of Golman-Sachs.
Many of us do the same thing but life has kicked some in the a–. A medical problem,a family issue-stuff happens.I have a friend who is in a wheelchair at age 26.Believe me,if he could walk to pay his taxes by hand,he would do so with joy every week.
You’re absolutely right some people got loans they never should’ve had.But banks sliced and diced thousands of loans.Read Matt Taibbi who sounded the alarm a LONG time ago.
Nahhhh. Barney said Fanny Mae and them were all ok.
To be more correct it was the combinaton of Clinton and Bush when, under Clinton, the banking law’s were relaxed to allow the Country’s business’s to work more easily under NAFTA. Under Bush those same restriction’s, that had been put in place for some VERY GOOD REASON’S, were repealed, resulting in the Glass – Stegal Act being removed, and the public’s protection’s with them, resulting in the financial service’s and banking sector’s running completely unchecked and the resulting in the virtual collapse of the Country’s economy. Both President’s were responsible. The question is do we, as a Country, want to go back to the days of Bush and repeat, again, the causes of the recent collapse or do we go forward and fix it, once and for all ? Nov. 6th is going to provide that answer.
I hate to be a stickler for details that put Bush in a good light, but Glass-Steagal’s repeal was signed by Clinton. The third way in action. Nonsense.
Exactly. The economy was roaring, everyone had a job and gas was cheap right up until Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid took over. Coincidence? This was also the time Barney Frank was defending Fannie and Freddie from any attempts at reform which might have affected his boyfriend’s income.
Yes, it is a coincidence. And blaming the 2007 collapse on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is a stunningly narrow-minded analysis of the cause.
I despised Bill Clinton, BUT the largest run up of stocks in U.S. history occured while he was president. The 9-11 crash removed only a third of those gains, and the economic decline removed only 6%. The Stock market was pretty flat under Bush, and never attained the level it was under Clinton during the Bush years.
HOWEVER I do not believe that the President (no matter who he is) has anything to do with stock performance. The Clinton run-up was almost entirly due to the tech stocks rise after the internet was opened to public use, and the Bush decline and flattness can be blamed almost entirely on 9-11.
Obama is a neocon lapdog…
Another easy question to answer. It has kept you out of the newspapers.
Can you tell me how 4 years almost of Obama led to such a mess. 1 Trillion a year in the deficit.
LIHEAP
MaineCare
Maine School Breakfast & Lunch
Maine Summer Food Service
Maine Special Milk program
EBT
WIC
SNAP
TANF
Unemployment assistance
CHIP
CAP
Section 8
SSDI
Etc., Etc. Etc….
These programs were set up to be temporary assistance to provide a safety net for those in need. Unfortunately, that safety net has become the proverbial & stereotypical hammock & the “Democratic Control”lers resist any means testing, any fraud control, any realistic oversight, etc., etc., etc. These programs are necessary for those truly in need. They should not be a lifestyle that leads to a generational cyclical entitlement mentality. The $ are running out. Meanwhile, the biggest entitlement goes to the overwhelmingly Democrat Maine State Employees who seem employed to perpetuate the cycle of dependence so that they can collect their own paychecks, benefits, health care, retirement, etc., etc., etc. This is not meant to intentionally put anyone down, but facts are stubborn things. Take a realistic look @ a broken system.
The $ are running out? Did you not read in BDN that LePage is planning to eliminate the corporate income tax? That’s just taking the tax dollars from where they are really needed and giving it to the fat cats!
good lord….when will you people understand that it is WE who pay the corporate income taxes via our purchase of goods and services from said corporations
The Corporate tax is on PROFITS! Eliminate that and they won’t drop their prices. They will pocket the money you will be paying in higher taxes. When are you people going to learn? You really think the corporations will drop their prices with this ruse?
You can add Robert NUTting, LePage’s daughter and Brother-in-Law to the “entitled” list.
Yessah
Don’t forget the extra state cop he got assigned to him for “security”
And Wal-mart encourages thier employees to apply for all these benefits while they also spend millions soliciting the Republican “government for Tax Breaks because they are “job creators”!
Now that the family has 40 % of the accumulated Wealth in America they want to pull the plug on the life support for thier workers that they created a need for!
This in NO uncertain terms is Evil Incarnate!
And all those who subscribe to it are it’s henchmen!
The Walton Family ownes 40% of U.S. Wealth? That doesn’t leave much for , Bill Gates family, Bloomburgs, Buffetts,
In fact The list is a bit suprising/
http://www.forbes.com/forbes-400/
I worded that wrong!
Opps!
They have more accumulated wealth than the bottom 40 % of Americans.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/jul/31/bernie-s/sanders-says-walmart-heirs-own-more-wealth-bottom-/
You’re plain wrong on the amount of generational welfare abuse in the system. The rise in assistance given and required is due to the 2007 Wall Street collapse and the resulting huge national unemployment crisis. The GOP has been using this calamity quite effectively to advocate for the illusory “need” for “entitlement reform” and deficit control, just at the time when the social safety net is most needed. The cause of the crisis should be placed at the feet of their large Wall Street donors. The solution to a financial sector caused unemployment crisis should involve more than throwing the poor and old under the bus. Unfortunately, the President has the same donors and has signed off on some of these policy goals as well, just not to the extreme that the Randians who now control the Republican Party would like.
I’ll give you some credit for the inadvertent/unintentional point you make w/regard to the huge failure of the Democrat party’s handling of said collapse & subsequent malaise. You reference 2007? It’s 2012 soon to be 2013. A competent administration, national, state level, & local would have not made the problem WORSE in the last four years. Their policy(s) have failed miserably. You are also laughably misinformed about the cyclical & generational entitlement mentality practiced by many & enabled by the left. You might “mean well,” but it’s obvious that you have no experience or knowledge about what goes on in real life.
Hardly worse. The train that was racing towards economic oblivion had the brakes applied and ever so slowly there is improvement. Our economic system is a complex system and if you know anything about complex systems you understand that there is no direct link between cause and effect and that the effects of information amplified or dampened in that system cannot be predicted. So stop with the blame game. The cautious policies put in place were the sensible thing to do given the complexity of what was upon us and the potential for escalation. They are moving us in the right direction. I just wish those who are actually benefiting from this recession would pony up their fair share.
Sounds like your kayak is turtled, Momma.
Can’t go into excruciating detail to reply to your sesquipedalian attempt to inflate your (lack of) factual argument. To use your own words “if you know anything about complex systems” then you would understand that the cyclical nature of recession & recovery are well documented. I’ll simplify that for you though. The deeper the trough, the stronger the crest (sticking w/the nautical theme out of my immense respect for your sea faring abilities…) The policies put in place by the politicians in power @ all levels (Nat’l, State, local) have, @ the very least, prolonged the impact of the prior crisis & made it substantially worse through their failures & business-as-usual approach w/their interaction for specific interest groups. It’s about follow the money for that.
Still, you agree that the policies of the current administration has created the worst financial “recovery” post WW2, yet you still want to give failed policies more time.
The “pony up their fair share” statement is a ridiculous game, but I’ll play for fun. Define “fair share.” Once you’ve decided that, what is the net impact financially? How much $ would be raised & where would it be applied? What is a “fair share” %? What is the financial impact of taxing 100%, taking all the $ from the so-called wealthy? I mean just that -> take it ALL. What are you gaining? Does “fair share” mean that everyone, every single person should pay something? If not, what is “fair” about that?
So many holes in your talking points & so little motivation to edumacate those who went to school on the short bus instead of in the real world of hard knocks.
Good luck on righting that kayak, Momma. Hey! Maybe some Fed/State/Local rescue resource will motor along to help. Better blow that safety whistle now though because the $ are running out fast & you’ll be left floundering… as it were.
You mention one thing that politicians tiptoe around-means testing. If either party brings a whisper of that forward, the other party screams and gets the oldsters all riled up.THAT is what needs to happen since the wealthy elderly are bankrupting us.Simpson was right when he called them “greedy geezers”. Of course he was retired so he had no worries.
You seem to be oblivious to the 5 year limit on these programs. There is no life-long subsistence payment for those who have the ability to work. And, your solution would be to throw them out into the street? Did you miss the article that talked about cities and towns seeing more requests for assistance after the state started reducing aid? True, local control does provide an opportunity to investigate need that is close to home, but you need employees to do the investigating. Are you ready to see your local taxes go up to accommodate? You cannot have it both ways: get rid of those on public assistance and cut back government. Who would you make do without? Reminds me of life in the day of Dickens. His stories were not fiction. They reflected a social mindset he was horrified by. He was a social activist. I would not want to return to that kind of society.
Yes!
They held Back Them Crooked Republicans!
Especially the last 4 years.
We are sick of watching our government hand out entitlements to fat, lazy slobs who won’t get off the couch. We are tired of watching the huge potential of the northern maine woods be controlled by people living in the south. We need to take the opportunity with mining and create 700 local jobs. We need to develop a huge portion of the northern maine woods, it would create 1000’s of jobs. All this is opposed by dems. The foodstamp president’s mission is to hand out entitlements so people become reliant on government and get addicted to these entitlements.
Wish the BDN “journalists” would give us ACCURATE information. IF Governor Romney wins the second district he’d only be entitled to ONE electoral vote. The way Maine divides its votes, TWO to the statewide winner and ONE for the winner of EACH congressional district. Any fifth grader knows that, so perhaps Mr. Cousins should go back to school.
I saw that too. You are correct. It would be one vote per CD and two for statewide popular vote just as you said.
NMB Research is a LLC in Virginia, located next door to the offices of:” Restore Our Future” ( a pro-Romney, super pac.) It has been paid to date, $803,000 from, “Restore Our Future” to create these bogus polls across the country to try and sway votes. They have NO information listed as to who really owns this LLC (NMB Research.) If ANYONE who votes in our State believes this poll has merit, please contact me about the bridge I have for sale in Brooklyn.
Mike Michaud ….. beware!
do you consider social security an entitlement?didn’t romneys parents get food stamps
A classic case of corporate welfare was Obama bailing out the auto industry, giving corrupt green companies like solyndra billions so they can commit tax evasion and go bankrupt. When left alone U.S. corporations pay the highest tax rates in the industrialized world. Democrats had a year when Obama first took office to do whatever they wanted, they chose to implement the biggest entitlement program the country has ever seen.
George Romney (Mitten’s father) was the C.E.O. at American Motors, later Governor of Michigan, and then a presidential candidate who self destructed when he said he’d been “brainwashed” about the Vietnam conflict.. Unless they were giving out food stamps to millionaires, or George was REALLY good at hiding his massive wealth, I doubt he was taking food stamps.
http://www.kulturekritic.com/2012/09/news/in-her-own-words-mitt-romneys-mother-says-mitts-father-lived-off-welfare-handouts-video/
Fortunately, the first district will save us from our folly.
True enough. Time to give York & Cumberland counties back to MA… They have more in common w/that state anyway.
Then what? What kind of state economy would we have?
Don’t need one. Obama is going to take care of us poor folk.
Oh, you mean wealthy corporations.
no. he means wealthy, southern Maine liberals who want northern Maine for their private playground and don’t want us to be able to make a living up here. Why don’t you depopulate Cape Elizabeth instead and put your precious park there?
I’m from northern Maine and even I can admit that the state relies heavily on southern Maine. We wouldn’t have a state economy if it wasn’t for the Portland area.
We might do better here in northern Maine if Southern Maine didn’t want to turn us into a nature preserve.
Drama queen.
Personally traumatized individual.
Oh please (you love it ;)), all because I called you out for massively exaggerating an issue?
Why don’t you address directly my comment?
Because it’s not based in reality. No one is trying to turn northern Maine into a nature preserve. I have quite a bit of land up here and I use it how I like — it’s how I make my money.
See, now wasn’t that more productive than name calling? It wasn’t that hard.
And what’s productive about an exaggeration that isn’t based in reality?
Tongue in cheek comments like the one I made above often hold a kernel of truth.
Two quick examples :
RESTORE: The North Woods HQ’d in southern Maine with an office in Massachusetts whose stated goal is to return Northern Maine to the wild.
http://www.restore.org/index_noflash.html
or perhaps the NRCM which headed up the anti-Plum Creek development.
My comment was tongue in cheek as well. Drama queens tend to be over dramatic — your comment was over dramatic.
“queen” has another conotation. Do you know something about Cheesey that we don’t?
You know, the other day he did reference Kylie Minogue…
The President of Katahdin Paper Mills said that Quimby’s Park doesn’t pose a threat… but then was fired, or left, under strange circumstances:
http://bangor-launch.newspackstaging.com/2011/12/13/business/paper-mills-national-park-compatible-new-gnp-president-says/
That’s not a bad thing.
This poster is especially difficult and tries to distract from serious consideration of the issues. It is usually best to ignore whatever is said and simply state arguments or give references that might be interesting to open-minded thinkers.
For instance, here are many polls showing majority support in Maine for a North Woods Park:
http://www.mainewoods.org/park-info/moving-from-vision-to-reality/public-opinion-surveys-concerning-maine-woods-conservation/
It is best you understand the topic before you jump in.
And here is LePage gutting regulations that protected the forests from over-harvesting. It is now legal to wreck the North woods:
http://bangor-launch.newspackstaging.com/2011/12/14/politics/environmental-group-says-lepage-green-order-promotes-destructive-logging/
Would you even see the northwoods if not for logging building roads and giving you access.
Yes. The woods is far better AWAY from the logging roads.
Ever wonder why all the Grouse are up there?
Look around , you won’t find a tree over ten feet high!
It’s all Brush!
To be fair, the north woods is owned by many different people with many diffrent agendas. I believe that Roxanne should be allowed to do what she will wioth her land, just as Georgia Pacific (is it still Georgia Pacific, or have they been sold? I can’t keep up) should be allowed to do as they will with theirs.
Where I draw the line is bringing in mega-dumps which pollute the underground aquiferes and give us all cancer. I know they are supposed to have a cure soon…. I still don’t want cancer.
I might have known that you would drag him into this one way or another. The article has nothing to do with him
Good to see you back!I miss your posts.
Thank you very much, truly appreciated. I unfortunately have a very tight schedule these days, but I try!
No problem.I thought at one point I had seen a post that you had an ill family member?
I understand the schedule thing. It sucks for those of us working our tails off to have to support the deadbeat TPers.
I too appreciate your insight and apparent love for the environment. I don’t often have time to read the comment section of BDN but always perk up when I see Spruce Dweller. RQ has every right to do with her land what she wants. I am grateful that she is trying to preserve the land for future generations. She does not have to do this! If her neighbors would make nice I’m sure she’d permit hunting, fishing, camping and so on. I’d much rather have her ‘in charge’ of this portion of our wonderful State than LePage and his short sighted cronies and the like.
Thank you much!!!
I too appreciate your insight and apparent love for the collective. My job harvesting fossil fuels keeps me very busy but your enthusiasm for socialism always perks me up. And when I think of RQ and her plans for a forest free of humans, I’m giddy with misanthropy.
so…. you favor government intervention to prevent the landowner, RQ, from doing what she wants with her land, in order to serve your concept of the greater collective good? Isn’t that socialism?
Why do you think they have so many devastating wildfires out west? You need to cut the wood to prevent them. I would think you would see the connection. They do not hurt the land at all, they are improving it if anything. Maine has more tree growth than we know what to do with. Do you think we just started cutting the trees within the past 20 years? no, they have been doing it long before you were alive. It is a necessity for alternative fuel, paper and lumber. Have you ever tried wiping your butt with plastic, writing on plastic, or building a house with it?? It is a great industry that we have.
sorry, you have the science wrong. Clear-cutting results in growth of low bushy highly-combustible material which allows the inevtiable fires to get hot enough to destroy mature trees. On the other hand, frequent smalls fires, in the understory of a mature forest, are not damaging and improve the forest and clear out material that could become dangerous if left to accumulate. Selective cutting, not hi-grading, can improve a forest if it doesn’t focus on leaving just one species standing.
Thanks Mike! Hopefully Boxer1 and his like will take advantage of your knowledge and gain a better understanding of our ecoculture.
You are “barking up” the wrong tree, Boxer1. My family has made it’s living in the woods, I suspect long before you were around. In fact we ‘own’ (I prefer to say we are stewards of) lots
of land that is managed well (good forest management practices). I have also flown over central and northern Maine and I have witnessed the effects of clear cutting and top soil erosion first hand. R. Quimby is not a stupid woman – I’m sure she understands this basic concept.
You stay right in your imaginary world. That is the best place for you :0)
bet none of the polls were taken in Northern Maine
Nature Preserve?
Northern Maine is now just one big Rasberry Patch brought to you by International Paper Companies!
You haven’t even been up there have ya?
Ahh, but raspberries bring in bear and the guides can make money from hunting them…
Great!
One Month employment!
If your making all of that money off guiding, what are you whining about? The biggest money maker in Northern Maine is unemployment.
Paid for by Southern Maine
Caused by liberal democrats
Funny how right wingers love to pontificate about “personal responsibility,” and yet you constantly blame all your problems you caused on liberals.
Because liberals are the problem.
Actually, conservatives are the problem, not liberals.
But thanks for proving my point about conservatives refusing to take responsibility for all the messes they make.
You man like the 1 Trillion $ a year increase in the Deficit, and how much has it gone up since Obama has been in office. Gas was at what price when he started. Now we have problems in Egypt, Syria, Lybia, Turkey, more troulble in Iran, more soldiers dieing in Afghanistan. What happened to HIS promise to bring our soliders home. Again how much is the deficit, and still continues to climb.
you mean like starting two wars AND cutting taxes at the same time? doesn’t sound like responsibility to me.. sounds like letting future generations pay for our arrogance.
you mean like Egypt, Syria, Lybia, Iran, Turkey 5 beats 2, and it is just beginning
We haven’t put 100,000 plus troops in any of those countries like we did in Afghanistan, with reason, and Iraq, for reasons completely fabricated.
APPLAUSE!The same way they yap about freedom yet love them some transvaginal exams. For most of them, that’s as close as they’ll get.
If those same men that tried to get that law past would summit to a trans-prostate exam they would fine other hobbies to pursue.
So why is unemployment lowest in the liberal part of the state and welfare recipients the highest in the conservative part?
Liberal ==Means open to new Ideas and Thoughts.
Conservative ==== Means closed to any new Ideas or happy with the staus quo.
Ignorant people won’t move to where the economy is, they would rather blame their plight on someone else. It’s easier to sit around and complain. “Look at the Clampetts!” “I’ve been a sittin here all day Ma, watchin that there house and the only thing ole Jeb has done all day is go to the mailbox for his government check! They’s all abuncha liberals over there Ma!
Caused by a Conservative Global Free Market Drive to lower wages and put the country in economic decline for quick profits!
Bear hunting? Luring bears to a pile of donuts and pizza for weeks so out of state people can bag their trophy is not hunting. We should call it what it is – bear baiting.
It IS called bear baiting, nimrod!
Not nice! I am very familiar w/the term. The point I was trying to make is that there is a huge difference between hunting and baiting.
Many, many times. I love it up there just the way it is. We don’t need some 1%(has you would say) taking the land from the people of Maine and giving it to the Fed. Government. Northern Maine has always been a working forest and should remain that. We don’t need to take jobs and traditions from the people of Northern Maine, so the people of southern Maine, and out of staters can come up and play for the weekend. Let Quimby go and buy Ma. and give that to the Feds.
Northern Maine hasn’t always been a “working” forest, not until white folks showed up, that is, and when they did they managed to clear a great deal of it for taters and hay and buy up the rest for logging, which in the early days was as much mining as it was scientific forestry, something they resisted (scientific knowledge, that is) and many do to this day.
As for the “feds,” Mainers might owe them a little, since it was the “feds” who negotiated and ratified the Webster-Ashburton Treaty which cleared the way (no pun intended) for legal exploitation of the woods by Mainers.
Tradition? For better or worse, traditions, like records and myths, are usually broken to become “traditions” themselves, right? Crosscut saws, wet feet, clammy outhouses, beans, poor pay and lice were part of those of those same traditions. Didn’t take long to drop them when better fare came along. Like the national forests in NH and VT, Boundary Waters in MN, the Adirondack Park, a Maine Woods national forest or park, if established, would most likely become another traditional use of part of the Maine Woods. Who’s to say it wouldn’t?
Working forest/land.
Chas. webster is a predicting genius…just ask him.
Great answer!
“I love it up there just the way it is. We don’t need some 1%(has you would say) taking the land from the people of Maine and giving it to the Fed”
I swear to god that there must be arsenic or something in the water up there createing mass hysteria and delusional thinking!
The land up there doesn’t belong to the people of Maine. It belongs to Private Landowners and Corporations all across the globe.
You get to use it by default as there is no one up there to stop you! What you don’t seem to understand is that they have a right to stop you anytime that they want!
The free use comes with no gaurentee that it will last forever!
Owned By the People of Maine? Thats an illusion!
Quimby is trying to actually Give it to the People of Maine and the rest of the country.
Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth!
We like rasberries :)
You got a problem with that, wise guy?
Hey dlbrt, NO park for you! Please continue.
I don’t need a Park in Maine!
I fly to Idaho once a year and hunt in that one!
Oh thats just wonderful, perhaps the next time you go to Idaho you could stay there?
If being a nature preserve involves being pickled, one might surmise from many posts in these hallowed columns that Appalachia North is well on the way!
You hit THAT nail on the head.Paulie boy is turning us into MS without the blacks.
This is a blatantly racist comment. GPBand seems like a liberal since he opposes the Governor. Come on BDN..get with it. Racism is unacceptable from liberals or conservatives.
Not only that, the timber companies and paper mils don’t treat their workers well, discard them whenever it is profitable, and don’t care about the beauty of the god-given Earth at all.
Government jobs are much better paying, more secure, and treat workers with dignity.
government jobs are paid for by the taxes of private jobs. you wont have much of a government if you destroy all the private sector jobs.
That logic doesn’t hunt. For example, the US military is a socialist system funded by our taxes, creating a lot of public jobs with private jobs as support. We could also do this by building new roads, new electric infrastructure, and so on. Other countries, like Canada, do it just fine.
You can’t pay yourself into prosperity Spruce… The government has to receive taxes from outside of itself in order to have money. Building a road with tax money, is still SPENDING TAX MONEY. It doesn’t matter that 15% or 20% of that money comes back in, in the form or payroll taxes from the company that received TAX money to do the job. It’s recycled money, not new tax revenue. I’m not sure how else to say this in a more basic manner.
The public worker SPENDS money — at restaurants, at Walmart, at a gun shop, wherever, which STIMULATES the broader general economy, even though the job was PUBLIC.
And again, other countries, like Canada, do it just fine. This Republican myth that everything has to be publicly owned is just that–a myth.
Besides, CEO’s get corrupt and greedy. And when they cheat, and they do it often, like the Wall Street bankers in 2008, we ALL suffer.
And, yes, the US military is a socialist system, and it is a MYTH that the US is not heavily socialist. We give all kinds of subsidies to oil companies, agribusiness, banks, and so on.
You have this idea that it is either all or nothing in terms of government.
However, the best most flexible system combines government stimulus with private industry. That’s how our railroads were build. That’s how our national road system was build. That’s how our military will always operate. And on and on and on.
The other option is to let greedy billionaires take as much as they can for themselves while giving back as little to us as they can get away with. The US is not a free market. It’s a corrupt place where politicians are bribed and the rich get richer while the rest of us slide. We have the same wealth distribution as the most corrupt of African dictatorships.
Picking on the poor won’t change a thing at the top.
Of course all the money put out to build the road doesn’t come back into the treasury. Public roads, like public forests, postal service, schools at all levels, police and fire departments, lighthouses, bell buoys and a host of other entities are public goods – profit as such isn’t the motive for having them. People may “profit” by using them, but they aren’t business investments. By paying for public goods (and the disagreements usually stem from deciding which ones are necessary), it is generally understood that we, as a people, have a better chance at prospering than not.
These folks don’t understand basic math sometimes.
Obama choose to spend the stimulus on foolishness instead of infrastructure. opportunity lost
Well said!
What a bizzare stupid comment. Not everything that is a cooperative effort is socialist.
The papermill Woodland is now owned by a Chinese corporation. Hannaford is owned by Europeans, and large majority of the State of Maine is owned by people who never lived here. Wake up people, those bonds we are selling abroad are backed by the land beneth your feet.
Those bonds we are selling abroad -many to the Chinese who make stuff for “American” corporations who shipped their manufacturing there – are keeping us afloat, so we can buy even more stuff from them, because that’s we do best – consume disposable stuff! In fact, we are no longer a nation of citizens, we are a nation of consumers – that’s our great passion, perhaps our only truly world class talent – which will be a source of amazement to future archaeologists (if there are any educated curious people left to take up the profession) who paw over the landfills and other detritus left in the wake of the late American empire and wonder whether we were ever a responsible people, or just what it was that ailed us.
Emotionalism aside, you have made the argument for the directed sale of Maine Bond’s to US bondholder’s AND the redeeming of currently outstadning Bond’s held by oversea holder’s as soon as possible. Now if only Paulie and the State Treasurer coud see that. Maine, as a State, needs the Bond’s out there to provide funding for both transportation projects and for the R&D of new Maine-made product’s and manufacturing mehod’s. But these Bond’s need to kept local, not allowed to go overseas where Maine interests wind up getting put on a chopping block whenever someone has a bad day and feels the need to do someting stupid. And that’s what is missing.
Your posts are wonderful, thank you.
Sappi —Stands for —-South African Pulp and Paper Incorporated!
The United States no longer exists!
It’s the United Corporations America!
And Obama is making it worse and worse, every day
paper mill jobs actually pay pretty good. also paper mills in Maine have not exactly been profitable for a long time
There is absolutely no truth to your statement
Hopefully Portland will come out in force for Obama and destroy any chance Rmoney has. Those chumps up north voted for LePage and he thanked them by jacking up their insurance.
“Those chumps up north” really???
welathy corporations don’t pay taxes, YOU paty them when you purchase their goods and services
and what of Obama’s little baby GM….outsourcing, outsourcing, outsourcing….paying a scant dime in taxes
Bush started the government’s investment into GM.
No, he means the elderly, veterans who are too injured to work, and the working poor who pay into Social Security but after itemization do not owe income taxes. THOSE fat, lazy slobs.
Missed in all the fast and over reaction to the poll in the Second Congressional District is that the firm cited is a GOP pollster suspected of “push polling” (using propaganda based rumor mongering) and/or question testing for opposition research elsewhere in the country: http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/10/big_gop_pollster_behind_oregon.php It is pretty much only the Maine GOP pushing this poll.
This fact and the error in the number of electoral votes (peeling off a Congressional district in Maine only awards one electoral vote) is indicative of a rush to the sensational when the whole story needs far more context and background information.
What you missed is this.
http://www.colorado.edu/news/multimedia/cu-study-says-analysis-election-factors-points-romney-win
These guys have been doing this since 1980 and have missed predicting only 28 electoral votes over 32 years. They predict a Romney victory 320-218 with 270 needed to win. In order for Obama to win these folks would have to be wrong by a larger margin than they have been in the last 8 Presidential elections combined.
Practice saying “President Romney” please.
Sorry, you are wrong again. They went back a changed their data from election to election.
Go ahead, bet your house on Romney if you are so sure, oops, your trailer. ;)
Nope you are in error. They change the data based on new information for future predictions. They don’t correct predictions in retrospect. Their outcomes and predictions are right on.
This is awesome…. This was predicted last month by the University of Colorado Electoral vote model.
http://www.newsmax.com/US/bickers-election-model-romney/2012/10/10/id/459489
http://www.westernfreepress.com/2012/10/10/u-of-co-model-still-predicting-landslide-romney-win/
When you look at the polls you would think the election was going to be much closer. But they are all with the exception of Rasmussen under counting white votes, which are predominately Romney voters. In 2008 white non-hispanics were 74% of the vote. Most models are predicting a 68% white electorate. At most it would be a 2% decline…. according to population changes. Basically add 4 % points to every Romney poll number and you would be more accurate.
Well that’s a whopper – Michaud is beating the pants off of Colonel Mustard-Raye , Angus is whuppin’ Voter Suppression Charlie.
And we are to believe that Rmoney leads Obama in the 2nd District?
Well then, republicans can stay home on election day – lol
Yessah
Maybe the revision corrected any errors in the original article since the figures are accurate now (one electoral vote for winning a CD, two for carrying the state). Looks promising (and yes, I live in the second district).
Posters beat up on him pretty hard. Lots of knowledgeable folks here sometimes. :)
I am a Republican. I generally vote straight-ticket. This year I’m voting for (but not supporting) the Democratic persidential candidate.
I would like to support the Republican. I generally believe that Republicans have a tendency to be more libertarian. The problem is that Romney doesn’t STAND for anything. He has no core beliefs which can not be changed by negative poll numbers.
He was pro-choice on abortion when he ran as governor of Massachusetts, now he is anti abortion. He was pro-health care mandate when he signed the Massachusetts health care law, now he is anti mandate. He likes to fire workers, and has in spades. He has torn apart corporate entities, put thousands of folks on unemployment, sent jobs overseas, and made billions of dollars doing this.
I don’t like Obama’s direction. I don’t like his Supreme Court choices, and I surely don’t like his one-size-fits-all health care law, BUT he has been predictable. Romney has not. I don’t know when he’ll sell Washington County to the Canadians (after sending the few remaining jobs here to China) If he is willing to sell out U.S. workers for money, what in his mind is not for sale? Our Constitutional rights? Our National treasures? or the land we are living on?
I don’t trust him, I don’t trust his religion, and the only thing I do trust is that he will do or say ANYTHING to become president.
Funny thing about this article, although the BDN always puts the margin of error concerning polls, that fact is absent from this story.
Political moderation and reality is returning to Maine, finally. Tux, you are not the only one to reach the decison’s you made. There are a lot of Mainer’s out there who are almost tripping over themselves to get behind you. The days of the Hard Right Wing and Nutso Left have finally been seen for what they are, namely extremist’s of both side’s who have both run out of gas and are finally being tossed into the junk heap of political history, and common sense. Come Nov. 6th maybe we can start to work for everyone’s sake, not just a few of the crazies who see Chicken Little at every turn and in every cloud. The next opportunity to get us all of the bus to Crazyland is in 2014. By then political moderate’s and common sense should have come back into the world. So should the Democrat’s and the GOP. If not then we are looking again as an Independent as Governor.
Your analysis that both sides are wrong omits the fact that blue-dog democrats had alot to do with paving the way for the financial deregulation that occured in the thirty years prior to the Wall Street meltdown in ’07. Had they stuck to traditional liberal concepts such as protecting Social Security, and Medicare, opposition to unpaid War, and Bush tax cuts that overwhelmingly favored the wealthy, the neo-Randians of todays GOP would have much less influence. As it is the far right GOP can today promote an agenda from the 1890’s that’s focused on appeasing bond traders with deficit hysteria and fiscal austerity that shares the sacrifice of balancing the budget by cutting taxes on the rich and cutting social programs for the poor. Clinton’s third way of 1994 was moderate Republicanism of Nixon in 1972. That worm will turn.
I am voting Independent every chance I get. I want the caucus gone. I asked a Republican candidate in Winterport who he would represent should he be elected and he said he would have to see what his caucus wanted before he could answer me on any issue. Once elected any representative should decide on the basis of what his or her constituents want, not what the caucus wants.
Politico reports that Glen Bolger of NMB Research polled 500 likely
voters on October 7 and 8, giving the poll a margin of error of about 4
percent.
Obama republicans have voted early. The land-line is biased and a total joke, just as the ones with Summers narrowing the King lead.
And Obama has a core? Partial birth abortion and a bigger government than Greece? Whata a great core!
I saw a nice “Democrats for Romney 2012” bumper sticker on my drive home from work yesterday.
Thank you for backing up my concerns. It is so refreshing to hear from Republicans with integrity. And, I want to see Democrats held to the same standard. Can we tell the difference? I think so. Mainers have always based their opinion of someone on who they are, not who they say they are.
Government is for EVERYBODY! Not just the ones who can buy a politician.
Editorial cartoon(not sure of author)
Fat pig CEO behind massive desk addressing worker with pink slip:
Of course we don’t want a third party.Having to buy another party would be an accounting nightmare.”
People are starting to realize that a successful businessman can fix the economy a lot faster than a man who buys votes with food stamps and free phones.
Fix it, with more outsourcing and lay off’s as he did with The Bain Co. He learned his skills of profit from his dad who took all the money and filed for bankruptcy when he owned American Motors. No wonder he wanted the big 3 to fail and voted against the bail out. Come on, do some research before you draw conclusions.
I’ll trust a successful business man to pull us out of the hole Obama has thrown us into before I’ll trust Obama…which will continue to hurl us toward financial ruin.
I do not want my country run like a Bain Capital business.
You’ve clearly been brainwashed by the far Left. Do your own research and learn the truth. Stop listening the the liberal media’s lies. If Obama is reelected, we’ll fall into the second great depression.
Government is not a business.
Obama did not create the phone program.
The screaming woman in Cleveland being paid by SEIU to protest at a Romney rally thinks it is. She tells everybody to get an Obama phone. Seen that video? Post child for the dependent class kept under control by Democrats who give them everything cradle to grave.
So what if she thinks it is? Bush approved the program.
That’s true. Bush created a program for people truly in need and Obama exploded it, giving 2, 3, 4 and more phones to people for free while helping his buddy, the richest man in the world and board member of TracFone AND ONE OF OBAMA’S LARGEST CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS, get even richer.
And, TracFone isn’t even a U.S. company. Obama’s giving BILLIONS OF OUR TAX DOLLARS to a Latin American company (TracFone). In 2008, Bush spent only $772M on the program. Obama exploded it, spending $1.6 BILLION last year alone. That’s right, Obama TRIPLED the annual costs the program.

SafeLink allows for only ONE phone for each household.

Um, the federal government sends money to the states. The states give out food stamps and phones. Talk to your local representative. Tell him or her to stop accepting those federal funds. People will just have to ask their families for help like Romney suggests. Yeah, that will work well for us all. Take us back to a Dicken’s-like social environment.
Obama’s free phones are paid for by the federal government and the money is going to TracFone, a Latin American company (yes, more than $1B of our tax dollars sent to another country in 2011 alone), which is partially owned by one of Obama’s largest contributors, also a foreigner, who is the richest man in the world. Ref: http://nightclubcity.com/forum/showthread.php/251030-Obama-phones-..Where-do-they-come-from
And, yes, families SHOULD take care of their own. They should not expect the rest of us nor the government to!
True!
It’s about time those Lazy Buisness Owners got off the couch and pitched in rather than just exploiting workers with low wages to support their existance!
LOL
Well said! They are just sitting back and watching what’s left of the hard working Americans fighting over what’s left over after they take their fill!
Class warfare does exist!
Both of the people are lieing. Didn’t the speaker of one of the houses say that they were going to defeet Obaman any way they could that thats why nothing got done this term an people all over the USA are feed up with BOTH houses
Among Independent women, the cool-headed, younger RYAN was the overwhelming winner over Biden, who came across as the clone of Zeek ‘gramps’ Braverman from PARENTHOOD.
If this was the Republican strategy, it was a brilliant success!
If this is true, better have a big 401 plan and loads of money in the bank. Otherwise your going to be reduced to some type of voucher plan for social security and Medicare. Isn’t anyone listening to Bill Clinton? We should not allow money to buy the President’s seat. So many false rumors and ad’s, I guess sooner or later, some people start to believe them. To bad so many people have to draw lines with this 2 party crap and not the person. Oh well, the good ole USA will never be the same and it was a pretty good journey. I thank the folks who gave so much for us older folks, so we could have enjoyed it. I feel sorry for the future generations, without Social Security and Medicare. The rich get richer and the middle and poor suffer but its been like that before, right after Clinton left a big surplus and watched it, wasted away. I sincerely believe it is part of a bigger plan where the extreme wealthy run everything and control the rest. But….we all are given a brain and a choice.
Who cares about jobs, we got free phones, we got food stamps, section 8 housing and an EBT card! Welcome to Obamaville!
Sometimes honest law abiding hard working folks run into a set back for a variety of reasons. Yes, we should be able to assist them and not the career ones.
The phones were authorized by Bush. Food stamps, EBT cards, and Section 8 housing all existed before Obama.
That aside, how dare we help each other!
Oh for goodness sakes, for intelligence’s sake, Obama has already reduced federal dollars for these programs. You forget all the hand wringing when he announced the cutbacks. The big LIHEAP noise about seniors going with out heat? Stop with the disinformation. Work with facts. Not a perfect world at the moment, but we are getting by. Well, some are doing much better than getting by, but they seem to think they are entitled to steal from their employees. When I see businesses paying a living wage I may have some sympathy for your position. Let us take that word entitlement and examine it closely. I think you will find there is more entitlement fever in the 1% than exists among those who receive public assistance.
It’s obvious you are clueless: Federal and state welfare
assistance has grown almost 19 percent under President Barack Obama. All in
all, there are 79 means-tested federal welfare programs, at a cost approaching
$1 trillion annually. Since FY 2007, state welfare spending has stayed
relatively flat, averaging $190.2 billion per year. Federal spending, however,
has increased 53 percent, going from $468.7 billion in 2007 ($717.1 billion) to
$717.1 billion in 2011. In FY 2011 the largest share of total welfare spending
went towards medical related programs (49.5 percent), followed by cash
assistance (19.6 percent) and food assistance (11.8 percent)

Only in America! We have a President running for re-election and he is running ads and more concerned about Sesame Street and the Muppets instead of the state of our economy, creating jobs and getting people back to work, the deficit, and problems in the Middle East.
Where to begin?
Teahadists in the House threatened to let the US go into default – that is what got our credit rating dropped.
When Obama took office we were losing 800,000 jobs a month and the economy was crashing at -8.9% GDP – thanks to the GOP and Bush.
We have seen 30 straight months of job gains under Obama – the UI rate went from a high of 10.2% to the current (and dropping) 7.8%
Bush took us from surpluses to deficits – Obama inherited Bush’s deficits, crashing economy, 2 unpaid wars and stupid tax cuts for the rich.
The Tea Party is the source of whacko partisanship.
Fast and Furious was a Bush-era program that Holder and Obama ended when they found out about it. The inspector general exonerated Holder – after the Tea Party held him in contempt.
There is no support for the Muslim Brotherhood by Obama – they hate him.
The Stimulus worked – and took us from massive job losses to job and GDP growth.
Obamacare is NOT forcing people to have abortions – and there are no Death Panels.
The GOP Great Recession is why more people are in poverty, on welfare and food stamps – even as income for the top 1% is rising and corporations are making record profits.
The abundance of low-cost natural gas is killing the coal industry – and coal barons are forcing their employees to attend Rmoney rallies without pay.
Limbaugh, FAUX News et al. and the Tea Party are stirring up racial strife – not Obama.
All records sealed – what a steaming heap.
To mention a few…
Yessah
Who controlled the house and senate the last two years of the Bush presidency? Who controlled the house, senate and the white house the first two years of the Obama presidency? You obviously don’t know so take the time to look it up. You should cancel your George Soros newsletter because it is making you look bad with your facts. And your yessah thing is lame. Really really lame. Really.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday that the jobless rate has failed from 8.1 to 7.8 percent — good news for Obama after his perceived lackluster debate performance against Romney the day before.
The unemployment rate is “lower now than it was in the last full month” of President George W. Bush’s presidency, O’Malley said on Fox. “Home foreclosures are at their lowest point in five years. We are making progress.”
Obama-Epic Failure: Gasoline $3.80… up 107.6%. Unemployment 7.8%… up 3.5%. real” unemployment rate (U6) 14.6%.Democrats boo and try to evict God at DNC. Democrats pay tribute to Russian Navy at DNC. Food Stamp Recipients 46.7 million… …up 31.7%. More Americans Now Commit Suicide than Die in Car Crashes as Miserable Economy Takes Its Toll. United States Ambassador to Libya and 3 staff KILLED BY MUSLIMS. Obama knew of terrorist attack but went to Las Vegas for a fund raiser. Then Obama chooses ‘The View’ over private meetings at the UN. Mob attacks US Embassy and burns flag in Egypt. Four More Years… Really? Benghazi-Gate: New Evidence White House Lied About Libya Terror Attack. Voting for Obama again is like backing up the Titanic and taking another run at the iceberg. Do you really expect different results? Vote American This Time!
What can he do to bring the price of gas down now you tell all of us you know so much an i bet if you were in his place the usa would be in bankrup. an romney will put us thru bankruptsy an yes romney is just as big as a lier as the one we have now
Romney/Ryan is Bush/Cheney 2.0. And THEY did so well that we just can’t wait for another replay of 2008 !
For those who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that
everything is “Bush’s Fault,” think about this:
January 3rd, 2007, the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress:
The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77
The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%
The Unemployment rate was 4.6%
George Bush’s Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB
CREATION!
Remember that day…
January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial
Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.
The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the
economy?I would tale 1000 GWB’s to one job killing Obama any day!
You’re right. Most of us made money during the 2000’s. But what you conveniently left out were the earlier political actions that festered during that period and then exploded in mid-2007. Such as the total repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act of
1933 by a Newt Gingrich-led Republican congress in 1999. That allowed
banks (both commercial and investment) to create their self-owned
firms to audit themselves and their investments. This lead to finance
companies taking over other companies. Big banks bought up one, two,
three and more smaller banks. Financial institutions also became mega
institutions which covered private banking, investing, mortgages and
insurance. Then, in 2004 Bush decided to bar states from monitoring
and regulating banks. The hedge funds (all run by Democrats, right ?)
got drunk on all that easy money, went to the roulette tables with our money and
bought McMansions with multi-million dollar bonuses.
Then we saw Countrywide Financial, a $500 billion home loan machine with 62,000 employees, 900 offices and assets of $200 billion – a Republican money machine that helped create a housing bubble of huge proportions that turned into a crash and helped turn the country into a mess.
The fix was in.
In 2006 the Republicans in control of Congress had their butts handed to them, but it was too late. The Democrats took over and they started reinstalling some regulations to
try to pull everything back together. Barney Frank, along with Republican Mike Oxley tried to tighten controls on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac but Bush threatened to veto it and down the tubes it went. The bowling ball began to roll downhill.
By late fall 2007 we all began to see (and feel) the results – official start of the mini-depression. And it’s all living history since then. We’ll be paying it off for 20
years no matter how loud the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings.
And, by the way, George W. “created” less than a million jobs TOTAL in 8 years, unless you want to include those of our children who joined the military at paupers’ wages for a questionable war or two. Obama has seen 12 million + jobs created in the last 2 or so years. We all know who killed the jobs market.
You can have your 1000 GWBs. I’ll take the economic recovery currently underway, orchestrated by Democrats – and a very few intelligent Republicans.
Once again, the president has no control over oil prices. Further, gasoline’s price is in line with inflation. We just had it very lucky for many, many years.
I am getting tired over the “argument” that the President has no power over oil prices. He certainly does. Every time he makes a move in the middle east he sets off some price surge. Every time he blocks a pipeline somewhere he sets a price surge. Every time he shuts down production in the Guff its sets off a price surge. All a president has to do is open his mouth it effects oil prices. This President could send prices down if he likes. All he need do is open his mouth in the right direction.
Please do some research. See http://www.politifact.com/wisconsin/statements/2012/aug/24/billboard/billboard-blames-obama-high-gas-prices/
Please understand first of all what you said.
“the president has no control over oil prices”
I didn’t say gas.
Of course he does. Ok the Keystone pipeline watch the speculators drop the price of OIL.
70 million Americans got to see the Real Romney and the Real Obama for 90 full minutes on Wed night. Gov. Romney looked more than ready to be President and had a PLAN to repair the damage to our nation for the last 4 years and bring back GROWTH and JOBS. Obama showed he had no real answer to 4 years of failure, and certainly NO PLAN for 4 more years. Just More DEBT and More Misery! Today Gallup told us that of the 70 million Americans who saw the debate 72% think Gov. Romney won overwhelmingly. 20% Obama. The most historic blowout in all of Presidential Debate History. Now we are hearing the whining, blaming, and excuses coming from the Obama campaign and the left. Here is some of the nonsense. 1. Gov. Romney lied – The Obama campaign and the freaked out left. 2. Obama’s brain was Oxygen deprived in Denver – Al Gore. 3. Obama spent my million dollars on pot and was high – Bill Maher Take your pick they are all absurd. Obama really thinks he can recover by getting into the sewer again? Today we had the first poll out after the debate with Pew Research. Romney 49% to Obama 45%. A 4 point Romney lead among likely voters. The last Pew poll had Obama ahead 51 to 43. So this is a HUGE 12 point swing in Gov. Romney’s favor. The American people saw reality on Wednesday night and found Obama unfit to be President. “When someone doesn’t do the job you gotta let them go”!
They are BOTH LIERS you know an i know an the american people know it .Why do you think every one in DC should be replace ? The republicans were out to got no matter what even if it ment the usa going down the drain an it was lead by Rush Limbaugh from day one. But you turn a bli d eye on that .
You need to slow down and use pell check on your posts. Take a breath and try to make some sense.
I miss spell one word an you know every thing i said is true an you can’t stand that
Not making sense is not a function of misspelling words.
I stand by what i say my daughter read it an shes a collage grad an she said there’s nothing wrong with it
The day after the debate this poor fellow showed up at a campaign rally in
Denver talking tough about Romney. His handlers obviously taught him a few one-liners
to make him appear as a man in command again. So in front of a selected,
drilled audience, with his Teleprompters, he dared say those things he couldn´t
the day before. How pathetic. I don´t know whether to laugh or feel sorry
for him. So this is the President of the mighty United States? It is obvious to
anyone who saw the debate who was the real man showing leadership and in
command of the issues and who was… not. And the world was watching.
So drinking that Hopium laced Koolaid, you’ve been conned!
So you think that all the people are wrong that are fed up with DC an want to replace every one so you stop drinking kool ade
If you truly believe this, there is a steel bridge across the Penobscot river at Bucksport that I will sell you!
You would not believe any thing that is told to you ,,you are so smart tell all of use what the true rate is . Dc has been using the same methed for years an years just because obaman is in office all of a sudden these are not the true number but if there was a republican in office an they put out the same thig you would think thats great
Shhhh, don’t tell the libs. They’ll scrunch their underpants again.
Now I remember why I stopped reading the comments on here .
Im not voting for either one im gong with a write in beause they both lie an the vps the same way
If you hope for:
Unemployment
Home foreclosures
Depleted personal wealth and indefinitely postponed retirement
Endless deficit spending
Massive national debt and interest service payments
Massive tax increases
National insecurity
Racial divisiveness from the White House
Class warfare
Anti-Christian government activities
Justice only for Democratic party constituencies
Covert activities to undermine the Constitution, like the lethal Operation Fast and Furious
Dictatorial use of Executive Orders to bypass the people’s representatives
Domestic drone use by unaccountable federal bureaucracies, soon to be armed drones to enact sentencing upon the public
Closed door scheming by the Executive Branch against the public
Migration of business and wealth out of the United States
Expansion of the poverty roles
Growing public dependency on government and cost of government wealth redistribution and dignity and ambition withering programs
Dumber kids run through the government school unions
Health Care Tyranny and government sanctioned death panels
Then your hope is with Obama’s reelection.
Exactly but this profile is that Romney with a few off the wall that no one in their right mind would believe either from Obama or Romney. Enough said.
Yeah the last 4 years is a clear indication of how his plans have worked so well for America. So stop drinking that “Hopium laced Kool-Aid” you’ve been conned!
What I would like to know is WHAT Romney’s plans are. Ryan was asked point blank at last night’s debate, and he never answered the question. I want to know BEFORE the election, not after. All they keep saying is they are going to make cuts, but yet claim it won’t hurt the middle class. Yet the discussion on doing away with the mortgage interest tax deduction is being discussed, along with health care deductions, and college deductions. Frankly, I don’t dare to vote for someone who is not being honest and up front about what he wants to do and how he intends to pay for it. Romney also seems to go at long lengths to say whatever is the popular thing to say in order to get elected. He was pro choice when Governor of Massachusetts, now he is pro life. He enacted a health care reform much like the President’s. Now he is against it. WHO is Romney? On any given day, he is someone else. It would be nice, for once, if candidates would focus on the issues, what they intend to do, and how they are going to do it instead of tearing down the opponent. That is so childish, and does not accomplish a whole lot. I vote for a candidate based on what he or she stands for, what he intends to do, NOT because of something his or her opponent said. I will be glad when the election is over because I am tired of the political ads, the time spent on covering the candidates on the news, and all the time I have to spend checking facts that the candidates say, to figure out what are lies, and what is the truth.
Could Biden explain what is in the 2700 page Obamacare boondoggle? Remember they said they had to pass it to find out what is was in it. Biden’s closing statement last night was …….”trust me” and “I stand on my record”. What a joke. He had no excuses for the disaster of the last 3 plus years other than blame Bush and he had absolutely no ideas of what would be different about the next four years. Ryan was right. Real leaders rush to solve challenges. Obama rushes to the golf course or another Hollywood fundraiser. Time for him to retire to Hawaii and start planning his library.
It is a documented fact that Ryan consistently votes against women’s rights. Now he doesn’t like to call himself a Congressman? Hmmm…I believe in the separation of church-and-state, so no Romney-Ryan vote for me.
Most discussion here relates what is going on (or not going on) in Northern Maine with activity and people in Southern Maine. Seems flawed.
First, Southern Maine is being overrun with poorly planned, unregulated or under-regulated get-rich-quick development. Restaurant start-ups live-and-die by the tourism market (that is to say, annually) and there are far fewer multi-generational Maine families thriving in Southern Maine than people from places to the South who have come there to make secondary home and business investments. Manufacturing and tourism exist only in areas within about 20 minutes of I-95.
Is this really what you want up north?
A more geographically relevant discussion would be to consider the potential in connecting (in a business sense) Northern Maine to Quebec. In studying the potential of Northerly Ports for expanded multi-modal transport. NOT the cross-Maine highway, but integrated ship-to-rail service, for example.
A more relevant discussion might also consider options for expanding Maine’s agricultural resources, as shipping food and goods by truck from California becomes more and more prohibitively expensive.
The same source of economic pain (the increased cost of goods due to the fact that long-haul diesel trucks get six-to-eight miles to the gallon), could allow for more regional small-scale manufacturing opportunities especially if products produced had a nearby point-of-departure from which to go global.
For the North Woods to experience significant economic benefit, that region of Maine will need to develop an identity and a viable purpose in the world that goes beyond cutting timber.
…and bear hunting in the raspberry patches left from the cut is a b.s. excuse, everyone knows that these days, bears are hunted the old fashioned way…with glazed doughnuts and a gun from *al-Mart.
Lets hope it still 5% or more Nov. 6th.
Glad to see people realize just what democrat control does to our state and federal governments.
Glad to see that people all a cross the United State have woken up sn wants to get rid of ever one in DC an start new .
Our state and federal programs would be lacking funding whomever is in office, when the money is scarce so is the funding. If they didn’t spend so much on foreign aid there’d be some money for the budget, but they’d rather cut spending at home than abroad.
Romney will do well in the rest of Appalachia, too. he’s got what they need and what they don’t need – lots of money and lots of malarky.
Blame Bush! The wise people known the dems were in control for the last 2 yrs of Bush and in total filibuster prrof control for 2 yrs with Obama at the helm. Now another almost 2 with Obama at the helm and a dem controlled senate who hasn’t even considered a budget in 4 yrs. Real unemployment is at 14%, most ever on food stamps, it took 800B of stimulus money to make the pres crack a joke that he learned there is no such thing as a shovel ready job, an admin that puts ads out telling how wonderful it is to be on food stamps and agencies who give prizes to the one that can enroll the most, so much for trying to get people OFF the govt handouts. Bailed out GM?? What a laugh, they would never have gone out of business to begin with by filing bankruptcy and it wouldn’t have cost the taxpayers billions that they have not and probably nnever will get back. Now the pres AND the vp blatantly lying about a terrorist attack in Lybia. Maybe the people of Maine aren’t so naive after all and aren’t all sheep. Am glad to see there are still people who want to be independant and not be bought with a food stamp. Romney may not carry all of Maine but this election won’t even be close unless the Chicago thugs and the incompetent community organizer give out free condoms next.
Ah – Republicons. Their twisted outlook. A party that has supplied the country with the worst presidents in US history. And now, following on old Ronny´s head-shaking folksiness and Bushbaby´s sheer brain damaged ignorance, they plan to foist a cult-raised man who shows brilliance only in making money for himself, but whose plans for the US only project making the rich 1% ever richer as 99% of Americans sink into the dust of their outsourced lost jobs, unrepaired and unrenewed cities, bridges, roads, schools and disappearing police and fire stations. Great future, all you ill-educated repubs who really think that this multimillionaire and his destructive side-kick give a damn whether you live or die. Go ahead! Elect them…and weep at leisure!”
Actually I am a life long democrat who will own up to the fact the WE have had the WORST pres in Carter and now nudged out by Obama. I didn’t think anyone could top Jimmy but I was wrong. As for the 99% garbage, that was a laugh a few months back and the joke has worn off. Go read the Communist Manifesto and you will find your talking points there. As for living or dying, Obama sure cares doesn’t he? He wants you on food stamps so you can depend on him for your pittance. Stop being jealous of those who are successful, get a job and try doing something for yourself instead of spouting rhetoric and waiting for your handout.
Well “lifelong democrat”, I suggest that you give up the pretentious moose manure. History will determine who was a good president, as it already has in the case of G.W. Bush. I read the C. Manifesto in college and I find my talking points also in the Magna Carta, the Federalist Papers and the Constitution. So what ?
No one wants me on food stamps, not even Hannafords. Seems that the only ones who do are part of the Republican legislature in Augusta who get their little cut of the federal largesse that it provides. Can’t even give up enough of it to keep Meals for Me solvent in Bangor.
The 1/99% issue that you had a laugh at was never a joke. That’s why no one else is laughing. Look around.
And you’re judging MY success ? I got my first job 60 years ago delivering the BDN. Took my bonuses at Auto Rest Park. You ever do any of that, or did mommy just pat you on the back and send you out to play ?
And yes – I wait for my handout every month. Social Security drops it in my checking account. And I earned and paid for every penny of it.
Did you mean “trial”,not “trail”?
I got one of those push poll calls. As I answered each question I could hear the voice of the pollster deflating.I’m sure my results weren’t counted.
ROMNEY / RYAN 2012 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When Bush won his two terms I sat back and sighed about what America would become. And we lived through what America became. I do not want to live through that again.
If you don’t want to live through it again, there is an alternative you can take – but it isn’t very nice!
I’m guessing the pollsters were careful not to contact any Ron Paul supporters.
Oh, you mean, Flip the Liar Romney and Lyin Ryan. Both pathological liars in need of psychiatric help.
Funny how you would so quickly recognize that. Pot calling kettle…………..
How can you tell a politician is lying? Their lips are moving. All politicians lie, period. I just find it amusing that this poll finds so much support for Romney in an area that was so pro-Paul after this state’s Paul delegates were blocked from the R-convention. I’m finding it hard to believe that after that treatment, those supporters would become obedient R-sheeple and vote R anyway.
No, I don’t expect the Paul supports to support the D. But I expected there to be a closer race between the two mainstream parties with the disenfranchised Paul supporters maybe rallying behind the Libertarian candidate as a protest vote.
Its about time.
” POS is a major GOP polling firm, founded by respected veteran pollsters Bill McInturff, Glen Bolger, and Neil Newhouse.” LMAO!
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/10/big_gop_pollster_behind_oregon.php
The Republican Party (also called the GOP, for “Grand Old Party”)…….. now if we replace or add to GOP with a more truthful name like POS (and we all know what POS stands for) I think we have a new name for Mittens and Lyin’ Ryans’ party. LMAO! Robme and Lyin’ GOPPOS !!!
You must belong to the Obama Civility Society. Beer summit anyone?
Sounds like more Republican Voter Fraud to me. Maine has become corrupt with Republican Voter Fraud.
Prove it.
Amen!
If Obummer has the same “i’m tired and I want to go home” attitude at the next presidential debate and Romney mops up the floor with him (and I predict that is exactly whats going to happen) Obama will be a one termer just like Carter. Thank goodness for that.
In a way no one can blame Obama for beeing discouraged, the lad is simply way in over his head. If he had any real world experience before being president he might have had a chance. Running a country is a lot different than being a community organizer. I hope he has a nice retirement in Feburary :)
And, running a country is a lot different from running a business. I would not want to be an employee in any of the businesses I heard about that Bain was involved in. And, I do not want to be an American in a country Romney would run.
Obama has never run either a business or a country. Unless you count running a country into deep debt and trouble.
He ran his Choom gang – and I’m sure he can run quite the tab of IOU’s when he was selling pot for a living. Not that that matters to anyone who actually believes in him and his absurdity. People really thought a pothead would turn the economy around. Crazy stupid logic with our society you know.
Hope you have your bags packed, inauguration day is January 20th. A little over three months away. Can’t wait to get rid of this whole wishy-washy, hopey- changey guy. At least Romney won’t be spending all of his time blaming the previous administrations, he plans on getting to work on the problems that face this country, not vacationing on the taxpayer dime.
Bain Capitol is a heavy financial donor to Obama so save the gibberish about how evil Bain is because Romney worked there. The Democrats know this but are hypocritical as always. Obama preaches about outsourcing jobs when General Motors (Government Motors) – his baby just announced they are building GM factories in China.
For once we will actually be able to call Barack Obama… “Citizen Obama”…The irony is overwhelming for a President who can’t seem to explain or articulate what he did for forty plus years prior to becoming President and who spent the last four years running our nation into the ground. Good riddance in November. I for one am sick of politicians who engage in class warfare and who win votes by promising free checks. Barack Obama will be remembered as the welfare President – whether it be individuals or financially insolvent energy companies who are too stupid to turn a profit – Obama was there to subsidize their failure at our expense. Obama will be missed by some – after all he helped buy their electric car, rebuy their clunker, and subsidize their Prius. The morale of the story – of the last four years – is there is no substitute for hard work. This is evident in the Obama Campaign itself – even they have become lazy and complacent living high on the hog. They don’t realize that ordinary Americans are hurting – struggling to feed their families – we are not out golfing five times a week or partying with Jay-Z and Beyonce. Washington (collectively) needs to get a clue – or we will continue to vote them out every time. I’m not one of the beautiful people living on Daddy’s trust fund or a bum living off the state for everything – I work like most Maine people do – the majority of us who still have a little bit of self respect. I’m voting for Romney/Ryan because we have 23 million unemployed people in this country, 16 trillion in federal debt and that is no future at ALL for my family or yours.
Surely there is an error here somewhere, the fact that we are in Maine and there is a poll taken with Romney coming out ahead of osham-a is totally out of line.
As it should be. Now let’s get Raye and Summers up and at em.
So maybe there is some HOPE that we can see CHANGE in the White House? The man simply wasn’t up to the job. Hey, no hard feelings Mr Obama but your services are no longer needed. Good luck with your lifetime pension, life-time top drawer healthcare, extended Secret Service protection and all the book deals and television appearances. All of which will cost the American people a heck of a lot less than what you have cost the nation over the past several years
Democrats criticize the poll, surpise. Romney should be ahed in the whole sate.
We need to drill for oil/gas off of Maine, and refine the products here in Maine to create hundreds of jobs at Loring!
Vote “R”, and get real.
I cannot believe that anyone with any insight into human behavior would support this candidate. Last night I was thinking…. is there no one in the Republican Party better than this? This is all you have to offer? You cannot really say where Romney stands on anything. Not even the sacred Republican position on abortion. He is all over the place. And his distortions abound. On the issue of the $716 mil he is putting back into Medicare: he is giving that to profiteers and it will raise the amount seniors have to pay as a result. Twice as much in some cases. There is no plan for economic revival. His broad swath policy statements with no details to back them up fail every time they are put to the test. Come on Maine. You are not easily duped. Are you?
You mean the way that you were duped by the community organizer who’s past is a mystery? The one who promised hope and change and delivered neither? The one who sat in his church and listened to Rev. Wright spew his venom then denied it? Your guy is proof that anyone and I mean anyone can become president. Unfortunately he was a miserable failure and we are all suffering because of it. Leadership? Where is it? He skipped 2/3 of his security briefings where if he was paying attention he might have heard that there was trouble in Libya. Four Americans were murdered by terrorists and not because of some crazy film trailier. That is blood on his administrations hands. Disgraceful. So don’t lecture us on Republicans and Romney. America is hurting and ready to make a change. Jimmy Obama is finished. Don’t worry Maine will vote Democrat. Luckily the rest of the country has seen the light and will send Obama back to Hawaii or Kenya or who knows where. It remains to be seen whether it is too late to save us from the carnage of the past four years. January 13, 2013. End of an error.
Romney won the 2002 gubernatorial election in Massachusetts, and as Governor helped develop and enact into law the Massachusetts health care reform legislation, the first of its kind in the nation, which provided near-universal health insurance access through state-level subsidies and individual mandates to purchase insurance. He also presided over the elimination of a projected $1.2–1.5 billion deficit through a combination of spending cuts, increased fees, and the closure of corporate tax loopholes. He has been a successful business man/ CEO, was called on to fix the 2002 winter Olympics in Salt Lake city, plus he gives more to charity than the current president and vice president combined by a long shot.
What exactly has Obama done in his life? Oh thats right, he doesn’t even know.
More rape and pillaging? That is the answer? When we have environmental laws in place that make corporations clean up their messes so it does not contaminate groundwater then we can talk. But putting that on the taxpayer is the Republican way. Like privatizing public services. It is all about profits, not people.
If Romney gets voted into office, seniors on Medicare and Social Security watch out! Students who are on your parents health insurance til you’re 26, watch out! People with pre-existing medical conditions…watch out! Women need to worry that Romney and Ryan will elect judges to get rid of Roe V.Wade…..
They want to make the states make the rules ove your medical decisions. That is still government control from what they are preaching. Middleclass home morgage deductions on income taxes…watch out! Major cutting in education and reductions of teachers…watch our!
The already budget cuts for veterans and State Departments security in other countries are already causing problems..watch out! When you as middleclass folks start becoming the new poor, and the poor who will end up living with parents or in your car, your complaints will go unheard in Washington if the republicans take over.
Afetr watching C-Span following the House of Representatives where Ryan has worked the last 14 years, including watching the Senate the last 4 years, I’ve seen the light and the truth of what has and what is going on with the republican party to push an agenda without true facts of any specific plan and they speak with generalities in hopes Americans will fall for their lies. The Republican Congress tied the presidents hands behind his back by not working with the other side of the isle.
That is the reason why Sen. Snow is leaving Washington because it is broken.
You are right on the money! The minute Obama got into office the GOP vowed that he would
be a one term president. How patriotic! They have thrown us all under the bus – blocking all attempts at job creation, health care, education reform …….. Why in the world would the lower and middle class support the GOP when it is obvious they are only concerned with the wealthy?
I pay a much higher tax % than Mr. Romney (and we haven’t seen his past tax reports – hmmm) because I don’t have tax write offs like $70,000 for dancing horse expenses. If Mr. Romney has so much confidence in our economy why doesn’t he invest his money in America instead of stashing it away in other countries? I don’t blame Snow for leaving – how frustrating!
You fail to mention that Romney pays the rate that is required by law, I’m not saying it’s a fair tax code because it isn’t, but if you were in his position would you pay more than the law requires? He didn’t make the current tax code and hopfully he will scrap it when he gets in office.
Obama passed every piece of legislation he wanted with a majority in the Senate and House for two years – so stop spreading the lies about the GOP blocking every more. Obama brought us here with a Democratic controlled Congress. You don’t have to like it – it’s a matter of historical record.
Snowe is leaving Washington because she did enough damage and wants to retire now after spending this nation into fiscal disaster- like every other worthless Senator who claims to support the citizens of their state. She was never a conservative so please – take her – we don’t need any more Republicans with socialist ideology. Clearly you are a liberal and a Snowe supporter which is telling giving all her rhetoric about being a “moderate”. “Moderate” is a load of crap – it’s people claiming to be liberal – but not “that” liberal..
How can anybody support either one of these candidates or either one of these parties? People lap up the rhetoric, but ignore the blatant evidence right under their noses that government changes very little with each regime change. The only change is larger and more oppressive government here at home, and deciding which sovereign third world hell hole we’ll be conducting drone strikes in that result in the deaths of more innocent women and children. How any of you that condone this with your rah! rah! my party/my candidate/keep the machine going and growing voting charade are able to sleep at night is beyond me. Good luck with that. Hope it all works out well for you.
AWESOME!
Why is the first District worth 3 Electoral votes but the second district is only worth 1? Why are they not equal? I thought that they were divided up based on population?
I already turned in my absentee ballot. And if I die between now and Nov 6, my vote will count. I can you this, I didn’t vote for Romney. If he becomes president, it won’t be through my efforts and endorsement.
Not surprising at all! People in Northern Maine ‘get it’. Rich Libs in Southern Maine just live there to escape Mass.
Notice how the multi state R voter fraud and the fired company has gotten NO play here?
WHY?That should be in every paper/TV station/website in the country.Shameful.
Sure they do.That’s why the population up there has been declining for years.Hopefully when the last one leaves they’ll blow out the candle in the outhouse.Suckers.
He won’t and you’ll still be here.No worries.
