Jon Courtney, the Republican candidate for Maine’s 1st District seat in the U.S. House, told the Bangor Daily News he plans to win voters to his underdog campaign “one handshake at a time.” He is taking on incumbent Chellie Pingree. Courtney, the Maine Senate majority leader, is the owner of a small business and resides in Springvale. He is serving his fourth term in the Senate, representing District 3, which includes central York County.

  1. I have met him and he has to be the weakest candidate that the R’s could have possibly put up to run against Pingree. The best thing about him running for this is that he will be out of the State Legislature.

    1.  He was termed out anyway. He only agreed to be this year’s sacrificial lamb nominee because he has nowhere else to go.

  2. With 375,000 votes cast in the 1st district in the last presidential year and 46 days left until the election Courtney only has to shake about 8,000 hands per day AND convince more than 50% to vote for him.
    .
What could possibly be wrong with that plan?

    1. you and i both know that if the R’s had the best candidate in the world ole donald would just open up his check book to make sure Chellie wouldn’t be going anywhere.

      1. Kevin Raye is one of the most popular and respected Republicans in Maine and he’s having trouble getting anywhere close to enough traction in the most conservative part of the state.
        .
Charlie Webster’s reign of terror, Paul LePage’s arrogant incompetence and the weakest top of the ticket pairing in many, many decades will sink a lot of Republican chances this year.

  3. Seems all he has is the handshake because if you look at his positions on the issues, it’s just generic GOP fluff. Repeal Obamacare, increase Defense spending, and some nonsense about printing money or whatever.

  4. Sorry Jon, you are tainted with the stench of the sadist, dufus ,Paul Lepage, and his masters down at the Florida Heritage club.

  5. This guy couldn’t understand the simplest of laws.  Twice I testified about a bill that was in front of one of his committees he served on and he treated me as if I meant nothing.  He can go back to his dry cleaning company as long as he isn’t representing anyone anymore is fine with me.
