Brewer to host fifth Bangor Recovery Coalition addiction summit

BANGOR, Maine — Bangor Area Recovery Community Coalition will holds its fifth annual summit on addiction recovery at the Brewer Auditorium on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

The summit, which starts with an 8 a.m. registration and networking session and continues until 3 p.m., will feature a keynote speech by Jim Gillen, director of recovery services for Anchor Recovery Community Center in Pawtucket, R.I. Gillen’s speech will kick off the summit at 9 a.m.

One of the summit’s main topics will be “bath salts, one year later.” Statewide experts will be on hand to talk about the lessons learned from the influx of the synthetic drug in Maine during the past two years.

The rest of the day’s schedule involves panel discussions, two recovery workshops, and an evaluation and feedback session.

The coalition operates as the advocacy and education committee of the Bangor Area Recovery Network and is made up of a group of recovering individuals and their allies who advocate and support addiction recovery in the Bangor area. The coalition also serves as a health advisory team to the Bangor Area Public Health Advisory Board.

Addicts in recovery, those seeking recovery, families of those affected by addiction, professionals working in the addiction treatment and recovery field, social workers, probation officers, area clergy and students are encouraged to attend.
