LIMERICK, Maine — A Massachusetts man was arrested wednesday for growing marijuana on family property in York County, according to police.
Jay Dandreo, 50, of Lynn, Mass., is being held on $5,000 bail at the York County Jail on charges of aggravated marijuana cultivation, Department of Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a news release.
Agents seized 183 fully grown plants from the property in August, according to McCausland. The plants ranged from 3 to 6 feet high and were valued at $275,000.
Maine Drug Enforcement Agency officials raided the location on Aug. 23, discovering the marijuana behind a cabin and barn on the property, but Dandreo fled into the woods when agents arrived. A loaded shotgun and three other unloaded guns were found in the cabin.
Dandreo eventually gave up, turning himself into police on Wednesday, McCausland said.
York County sheriff’s deputies and state game wardens assisted state police in the investigation.

They weigh them green. It seems they are not smart enough to know that it is sold dried.
No. They are smart enough. However, it “looks” better if they weigh the entire plant (stem, roots, the whole thing). Never-mind that nobody smokes the roots or stems, it makes for more dramatic headlines and higher “captured” weights. They also base the street value similarly… on the weight of roots and stems.

Back in the seventies, they estimated bust weights as if the pot was going to be sold by the joint! Then it was per ounce. I don’t know how they estimate today, but just like with any product or commodity, drugs are subject to the laws of demand and supply, and “Fair market value” is what anyone is willing to pay for a price at any given time. Street use of drugs is a lot harder to estimate than non-black market goods. I’m sure they take an average…probably regionally.
Anyway. It’s all foolishness. FREE THE GREEN! Should have been legalized 40 years ago!

I just did a simple google search of how much weight is lost in the drying process. They did an experiment that resulted in a 72% loss of weight.
So $275,000 – 72%= $77,000.
Thats way more like what it’s worth.
Don’t get me wrong MDEA I like what your doing but as a citizen of this State and Country I’m tired of all government agencies just making up figures to further their own agendas on the dime of taxpayers.
Impossible to know the value of a product without relative insight into its quality. Could be worth nothing at all. But the DEA doesn’t care. Every plant big or small seed or weed, male or female is all worth absurdly high prices… Stat padding is what they do. Like how lots of kids are in treatment for marijuana addiction, therefore it must be a bad problem. Truth is, you get caught, you get a choice: treatment or jail. Most choose treatment. Of course, this gives the DEA that stat that they want, that they can point to. But its all lies.
Waste of time and money. Pot is harmless. What isn’t harmless are draconian laws and wild west style lawmen.

All the effort spent on pot should be turned around and spend towards controlling bath salts and prescription pills. You know…the real dangerous drugs.

Your agenda is glaringly obvious. Mr. Campbell was caught with “more than 5” where-as Mr. Dandreo was caught with 183. I don’t think it matters what his name is, its not going to be a fine. These two cases are not similar at all. But, while we are here, perhaps we can get to the root of your dislike for Mr. Campbell. Did he bully you as a child? Was he mean to you?
