WALDOBORO, Maine — The Maine State Police arrested a Waldoboro woman Wednesday afternoon and charged her with murder in connection with the shooting death of her former boyfriend last month.
Detectives arrested Arline Seavey, 25, as she was being discharged from the Spring Harbor treatment center in Westbrook, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Seavey, who also goes by the name of Arline Lawless, was transported to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, where she is now being held.
Seavey is charged with fatally shooting 34-year-old Norman Benner of Waldoboro at the home she rented on Friendship Road in Waldoboro, state police reported.
Seavey suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face and has been treated for that injury since July 23, when Benner’s body was discovered by his relatives inside the home. Seavey was found wounded.
McCausland said Seavey and Benner had been seeing each other for a few months. He called the death a domestic violence homicide.
Seavey’s first court appearance likely will occur either Thursday or Friday in Lincoln County Superior Court in Wiscasset. More details on the investigation likely will be released at that time, McCausland said.

Might be the first time I have heard of this , Woman as the perp. Interesting.
Redirected to Hunger games? Bored are we?
Maybe she was the abuser in this case — had a roommate years ago that abused her boyfriend. Doesn’t sound like he was the abuser this time….80% of abusers in Maine are men….Maybe Miss Lawless couldn’t be broken up with. Maybe she is part of that 20%.
that’s a pretty irresponsible comment.
I can understand why you would think that. But I also know of women who were the abusers. A close male friend was regularly attacked by his mentally and emotionally unstable girlfriend, especially after she had a few beers too many. It may not happen as frequently as men being the abusers, but it does happen. Some women are just as violent as men, and go off on people with little or no provocation.
Getting attacked by a girlfriend/Wife after she’s had a few is pretty common in Maine. A woman could come after a man with a knife, in a drunken rage and even though it might all be on her, there are plenty of people that would assume that he must have done something to cause her to do that.” Of course it’s like that. Doesn’t everyone know that women can never be the instigator of the violent act.” sarcasm off.
Sounds like she tried to kill herself, as well. Either that or he attacked her and she suffered a wound to the face and then killed him. While possible, I find it unlikely. Prison is not the place for a person of this type. Send her to an asylum, its far more logical (and beneficial to everyone) in this situation. Cant treat mental illness with prison, it only compounds the problem. Of course, its not like she’ll ever get out, so, either way, I suppose it doesn’t matter. Lesson to be learned, here, then: If you are going to attempt to kill yourself, you had better be sure you succeed, especially if you just killed someone else.
are you nuts? seriously!
By the way she wasn’t abused by him…
If she hadn’t shot herself in the face to coverup the murder of her boyfriend she could have used that defense. I bet she uses it anyways and I would put the odds at 2 to 1 she is aquitted.
Called it.
BUILD MORE PRISONS !
Its so funny how many of you jumped straight to the conclusion that the male was the one responsible. fail.
Well that’s just excellent advice for women who are in domestic violence situations. If you’re being abused, well then, just become an abuser and get yourself arrested for murder. Hmmmm . . . prison or safe house? I just can’t decide.
