The best that can be said about how Mitt Romney fared in July is that he survived. That has only raised the stakes for what the presumptive Republican presidential nominee needs to do in August.
July was not a good month for Romney. His foreign trip drew extensive and negative news coverage, although there were also some pluses, and it’s not clear in any case that it will have any real impact in November. Back home, due to the daily combat between his and President Obama’s campaigns, Romney sustained some damage.
Overall, the head-to-head polls have moved little since the end of June. Obama holds a small but hardly comfortable lead. But the evidence that Romney has been hurt nonetheless came late last week in a poll by the Pew Research Center. Pew found that voters have a more negative impression of the GOP presidential candidate than they did only a month earlier.
Romney’s image has long been a problem, dating back to the nomination contest. As he fought off one after another of his rivals, and as they went after him, the public saw him in increasingly negative terms, despite the fact that he was winning.
That can happen in a tough primary campaign, which is why political parties like to get those fights over long before the general election. But Romney’s negatives were surprisingly high for a presumptive nominee. Then, from March to early summer, Romney was on the upswing. In the Pew Center’s research, the percentage of voters who rated him favorably rose from 29 percent to 41 percent.
In July he went backward. Negative impressions now outweigh positive impressions by 15 percentage points — 52 to 37 percent. A month ago, the difference was just six points. The poll was completed just as Romney’s foreign trip was starting.
The newest numbers put Romney among the worst-rated presidential nominees in the past seven elections. His low numbers were in the same range as 1996 GOP nominee Bob Dole and those of then-President George H.W. Bush in 1992. Both lost their races those years.
Romney is above 50 percent positive in the Pew findings with only two groups: Republicans and white evangelical Protestants. He is at 32 percent favorable among women; 38 percent with college graduates; and just 40 percent among those with incomes above $75,000. Among independents, he is at 41 percent positive.
Romney advisers say the deterioration between June and July is mostly with people who were not going to vote for Romney anyway, which they say worries them less than if they were losing ground again with their core voters. They argue that the Obama campaign threw tens of millions of dollars worth of ads at Romney on Bain Capital, outsourcing and tax returns and that it didn’t dramatically change the race.
That still leaves Romney with historically low personal-image numbers as he heads toward the fall. Maybe that matters less than it once did, but it’s hardly an ideal situation for the challenger.
It’s worth noting that Obama’s ratings are far below their 2008 levels. In October 2008, his positive ratings were 40 points higher than his negative ratings. In the latest Pew survey, he is still in positive territory but by only five percentage points — 50 to 45 percent. But Romney is in far worse shape after the pounding he’s taken over Bain, his tax returns and other issues.
The head-to-head polls have largely remained static in that time. But in looking at the numbers nationally and in the battleground states, the consistency of Obama’s lead is striking. More than two dozen national polls have been conducted since the beginning of June. Obama has led in the overwhelming number of them.
Polls in the most contested states show a similar pattern. In three of the most important — Ohio, Florida and Virginia — there have been roughly three dozen polls total since April, about the time that Romney’s GOP rivals were exiting the nomination race. In Ohio and Virginia, Obama has led in all but a few. In Florida, Romney has done better, but overall, Obama has led about twice as often.
Those polls are not definitive predictors of the November outcome, by any means. A movement in the national numbers, which could easily occur in the final weeks, will change the look of many of those states. But at this point, the available evidence suggests that the advantage, however small, is with Obama. If this were truly a dead even race, Romney should be ahead in these polls almost as often as he is behind.
Romney’s team saw June and July as difficult months, a period when the Obama campaign would have more money to spend on advertising than they would (not counting super PAC spending) and a time devoted to expanding a relatively lean staff to get ready for the fall campaign.
His advisers long have said that if Romney can get to his convention with the race close to even, he will be well-positioned to pull ahead during the final two months of campaigning. They still believe that and say they are on track. That presumes that any erosion in his personal image can be turned around quickly before it begins to affect the polls nationally and in the swing states.
That leaves Romney with much to do starting this month. Over the next four weeks, he will need to do what the campaign long has said he would do, which is to introduce himself to the voters in a much more positive and appealing way. He’s known now more for his wealth than anything else, and not in a way that’s helpful.
The candidate needs a fresh look from the voters. He has unveiled new ads and a new focus on the middle class. But his vice-presidential pick will be the first real moment for that fresh look to take place, and this weekend, the Weekly Standard urged him not to make a safe choice of Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio or former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty, but instead to go bold with either Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida or Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin .
The second and more important moment will be the GOP convention in Tampa, which starts in three weeks. He needs a well-choreographed event and, even more, an exceptional acceptance speech. Others have accomplished as much at their conventions, and Obama’s team expects Romney to repair some of the damage from the summer. But has Romney now created outsize expectations for his convention?
Steve Schmidt, who was the senior strategist in Sen. John McCain’s campaign in 2008, does not believe Romney has erred by waiting until now to do this — provided the campaign has a good plan ready for implementation. “They haven’t waited too long,” he said, “but they’re coming up on the hour when they have to do it, and they have to do it effectively.”
A number of Republican elected officials have called on Romney to offer a bolder and more understandable plan for addressing the economy and the deficit. Will he be able to effectively frame the final weeks of the campaign in a way that puts Obama more on defense and himself more on offense?
One example of being on the defensive: Romney hasn’t answered difficult questions that have been raised about who would and who would not benefit from the tax and economic plan he’s put forward. A report from the unaligned Tax Policy Center, which said the plan doesn’t add up, has punched a hole in his platform that begs to be filled.
Friday’s jobless report was a reminder of the president’s vulnerabilities and the stiff head winds he faces in his bid for reelection. With unemployment above 8 percent for 42 consecutive months, the president has to explain more effectively why things have not gotten better faster. Romney advisers see that as a key weakness in Obama’s message.
But Romney must do more than count on the weak economy to assure his victory in November. August will begin to show whether he is up to the challenges that await him.

The truthful headline should read ” Obama’s Dismal Performance Places America in Jeopardy”
Only in Faux News.
Certainly not on MSNBC, CNN, ABC, MPN etc., etc. Right?
Your a die hard knot hole, but thats o.k. Every good piece of wood has a knot in it now and again.
And now the story is, the reason he won’t release his tax returns is because it will reveal his income to the Mormon church and show that he has not been titheing. It’s one thing to cheat the government but to cheat God?!
“The story?” from “reliable sources”? I would bet my freedom (and I am doing that by the way) that Romney has done everything legal in his finances. His wealth has been in a BLIND TRUST since he entered public service 10 years ago. This so he would be free from influence. He did not place those funds, although it is perfectly legal and all taxes are paid on it.
The alternative is Obama, who’s transcripts, thesis and source of funding for Harvard are not revealed. Who’s mortgage was paid by Tony Rezko (now in prison), who launched his campaign from the living room of a domestic terrorist (Bill Ayers) and whose Chicago freinds are a host of corruption (Gietner, Blogovich, and Mr. Fast and furious Eric Holder…)
*yawn*
you must be quite a naif to buy the “blind trust” line.
“Blind trust is an age old ruse, if you will; which is to say you can always tell a blind trust what it can and cannot do, you give a blind trust rules…” Mitt Romney, before he figured out you were so gullible
the fact you buy the blind trust line then run off at the mouth with a bunch of silly Rush style talking points about Chicago “freinds” and corruption is pretty funny.
the only thing that seems to actually be corrupted is your perspective on reality and your computers spell check function.
RFLMAO
His wealth in a BLIND TRUST. Mr (R)money said when running against Ted Kennedy, we all know that BLIND TRUST are a ruse, in other words the control still rests with, in this case Mr. Romney.
You have been brainwashed by Carl Rove. ” All taxes are paid” and ” domestic terrorist Bill Ayers” shows your desire to poison the truth . I would call that domestic terrorism. Snap out of it and get a grip.
I think God already knows if He’s being cheated . . .
lol
Romney’s “gaffes” were the truth. London had already admitted that they’d hired far too few security, and the glaring economic disparity between Israel and the Palestinians is the truth, too.
Sure, they were politicly insensitive to say out loud, but they were the truth and the truth sometimes hurts. Too bad that they were reported as major mistakes, but that is the mostly liberal media for ya.
The mainstream media can promote Romney’s “gaffes.”…not that they would do the same to Obama.
Would you like to borrow my tear rag?
Truth?
Romney?
So why start now?
Who needs it when you can etch a sketch the truth and retire retroactively?
Uhh, I believe it was more of an etch a sketch change on a campaign strategy after he beat out the other republican nominees. And also, wasn’t it a campaign hot shot that said that, not Romney? Not that it’s important anyway, but I may check out what Factcheck.org has to say about it……..
were not buying your bogus headlines, everyone knows your in the tank for the worst president in the history of the US, and no thats not Bushs fault!
It’s not Bush’s fault he was the worst president in history?
Nixon was worse
I’d hardly consider Nixon a president. He robbed us of energy independence by creating the Nuclear Regulatory Committee among other greedy action. He was a crook through and through.
I think Obama is worse……worst ever, actually.
Amen!
Carter was worse, but Obama will retire the trophy for worst president ever.
Amen!
1. For 30 years politicians have
talked about health care. Obama is the first to do something about it. The
Affordable Care Act removes restrictions on pre-existing conditions, makes
health care more affordable for small businesses, raises the age at which children
can be on their parents’ policies, removes lifetime caps, and more. With the
possible exception of insurance execs, who would not want these changes? 2.
Obama has ended the Iraq war and is drawing the war in Afghanistan to a close

energy jobs. 7. Obama supports education by giving more flexibility to the No
Child Left Behind legislation and by making college more affordable, 8. Obama

the rates the rest of us have to pay. Isn’t this a no brainer? 9. Despite

Ever wonder why McCain passed on Willard Romney and chose Palin… he must have smelled a rat.
Actually McCain was the only person to actually see Romneys Tax returns. He recently warned that Romney was taking large sums of cash from foreign countries such as North Korea and Iran.
Back the accusation in your last sentence with proof (if you can!)
Romney’s poll ratings are far from “dismal,” and after the debates in October, Obama will be choking on Romney’s dust.
That is what I was thinking. His ratings aren’t dismal. Dismal would describe Obama’s performance as president and his qualifications to hold such an office.
All Obama has is to attack. He can’t stand on HIS accomplishments as President.
“He can’t stand on HIS accomplishments as President. ”
Sure he can!
Osama Bin Laden Is Dead— General Motors is alive!
Ignorance wont change that!
GM took a 41% nose dive.
Do we really want a president who brags about the assassination (even if well deserved) of Bin Laden?
>><<<
Darned if he does, darned if he doesn’t. Thanks to the Mitch and TP mindset 9and I’m being generous with the term), it’s been that way–on anything–since the 2008 election.
“Do we really want a president who brags about the assassination (even if well deserved) of Bin Laden?”
If the Bin Laden you are talking about is the one who engineered 9/11 and the most vicious attack upon Americans on American Soil, then you are damn right I want a President who gave the order to see him sleep with the fishes.
41 % dive from the 100% recovery is better than the Romney plan of let it die!
Bush put a bounty on him asking for his head on a plate! The Republican crowd roared in delight!
YES!
Bin Laden is dead – thanks to Seal team six and our intelligence community that found him!
General Motors is alive (for the present) – and largely owned by the UAW!
Obama is the worst president in my 78 year life. A second term for him would be the worst possible disaster imaginable for Americans – even those posting some of the tripe on this thread!
I generally respect my elders, but you apparently haven’t been paying very close attention. You are entitled to your opinion, but by missing the plain-as-the-nose-on-your-face facts, you certainly have a strange opinion. Apparently you missed what was the conclusion of the last administration… you know, a global financial crisis, two unfunded wars that made a lot of military contractors very, very rich, destroyed two countries, left our country’s finances a shambles, that little matter of TORTURE, and illegal detainment, illegal rendition, lots of American blood for oil, a destroyed New Orleans (some of which is still destroyed)… domestic spying… incompetent appointees politicizing every corner of government… Taking a nap when all this happened?
I think that each of us lives in a private world that is bounded by our past experieces, biases and opinions. However, I cannot imagine a combination of factors that would bring one to the conclusions you present in this post! The most scary thing is that fourteen people “liked” your post!
I wish you good fortune in unraveling the tangled logic of your thinking.
I surely hope you succeed in arriving at some coherent thinking before you go to the polls in November!

This reminds me so much of the McCain supporters in 2008. They were every bit as sure he would win as you are that Romney will win. They were wrong, and so are you.
ROMNEY: father
was president of American Motors and three term governor of Michigan, mother
ran for senate, he was unpaid missionary for two
years in France (long, hard, discouraging work days), valedictorian,
Harvard MBA (top 5%), Harvard JD (with honors), unpaid Mormon bishop (to the
99%) unpaid Mormon stake president (to the 99.9%), gave away inheritance, Staples
(89,000 jobs), Sports Authority (15,000 jobs), Domino’s Pizza (7,900 jobs), quarter-billionaire,
wealth placed in blind trust (no one owns him), saved Olympics, Massachusetts
Governor where half of his staff were
women with equal pay (four years of balanced budget and surplus), five very successful
sons (three with MBAs from Harvard, one in medical residency), 18 grandchildren
(cares about US future, not his own power), long happy marriage, turnaround
artist for the nation.
OBAMA: Harvard funding unknown, Transcripts and thesis
not released, Mentored by Frank Marshall Davis (card carrying, FBI tracked communist),
Community Organizer (3 or 4 jobs), 20 years with Jeremiah Wright’s black
liberation theology (class warfare), one term senator who was never there,
mortgage paid by Tony Rezko (now in prison), Bill Ayers friend(radical
terrorist), “The Food Stamp President” (touts the ‘workers paradise’ lie), Solyndra
(-1100 jobs),War on coal (-9000 jobs),Stimulus (-100000 jobs),”The most
dangerous president in modern American history” (Marxist behind a huge
federal power grab.), “After my election, I’ll have some flexibility”, “We can’t
wait on Congress”, Tyrant above the law.
Yawn.
The stakes are very high in this election. This is about nothing less than the future of our nation. Obama will have a free hand if given another 4 years and will ignore congress and implement a massive, unyielding power grab. This is truly dangerous my freind. You may someday wake up a slave.
ROFLMAO
” You may someday wake up a slave.”
You must be still sleeping!
LOL
If some of you remember Nixon….this administration is Nixon on steroids.
Circumventing congress by developing an inside government was a Nixon thing which the Obama administration has even further developed.
We are in a selfish spoiled culture of “what you give me for free” determines how I will vote.
Were you asleep during the Bush administration? In a coma, perhaps…?
Ridiculous. My goodness. Where do you people get this foolishness?
“A slave”! Is there the teeniest, tiniest possibility that you are exaggerating the danger Obama poses? You sound unhinged.
The consequence of a November win by Obama and his Posse constitute the confirmation of a socialist fascist America.
How? Your one sentence doesn’t convince me, and I went to college. Do tell… how will Obama turn the country into a socialist fascist America…?
Interesting, especially given how it wasn’t all that long ago that William F. Buckley Jr. a conservative’s conservative was rebuking the right wing of his party, the John Birch Society, for THEIR lurch toward fascism… Buckley supported Goldwater as a more moderate republican and DIDN’T denigrate “liberals” with the same hate as the Birchers, the same uncompromising hate that many modern repubs and conservatives express today, because he had the intelligence and civility to realize compromise was how our system is designed to work. When one side, in this case the One Party rule side, the “permanent majority” side of the aisle… (the gop, in case you’re not sure) REFUSES to compromise, we’ve got a problem. When one party openly, publicly declares that it’s chief agenda is to cause the current president to fail, we’ve got a problem.
And if the party of the wealthy, of the corporate power is giving taxes, power and access away to the wealthy and corporations, what do you think is worse…? Having the government on your back, or a predatory capitalist? Hint: you can’t vote the CEO of XYZ multinational corporation out of office…
So, please, do tell… how is Obama going to turn us into slaves and create a socialist, fascist America…
HEY, I can’t bear to read your blob of telly tubby silliness. Sorry? So what ever you are trying to convey great job!
Glen Beck, stop using words you don’t understand.
sticks and stones, words have meaning says the messiah, don’t be hateful.
The more you say things like this, the more damage you do to your TeaRadical cause. It is just plain ridiculous and delusional.
Labeling such a fine quality of a tenserblic racist. You’d make a fine concentration camp guard. HEIL
Prey tell, what in hell is a “socialist fascist? too bad Pineland is closed. It would have made a good home for you.
May I suggest some professional help?
How so? Expound on this theory of yours… Please, give details how Obama expects to pull off a massive power grab…
Slaves, huh? Sounds serious… Do tell…
What a dumb thing to say. The president’s “free hand” is regulated by the Constitution. You already appear to be a slave to stupid sound bites from haters who just like hearing themselves talk. The danger is a Congress that is so divided nothing substantial can be achieved.
You have a bi-racial president- get over it- it’s the 21st century.
Oh what paranoid right wing nonsense. Are all TeaPublicans this delusional? What “freedom” have you lost since Obama became president? Name just one thing? You can’t, and you know it.
It is just plain silly and ridiculous. (Or is the real truth that you people just can’t stand that he isn’t completely white? Let’s get to the real truth here.) And what “freedom” are you people really for? Free to have no healthcare. Free to help insurance company CEO’s have more mansions while 50 million Americans have no healthcare and many die or go bankrupt. Free to have our jobs shipped overseas. Free to allow the Koch Brothers to buy our elections. Free to have no workers rights of any kind. Free to suppress voting rights. Free to go back to 1950’s era women’s rights laws. Free to have a corporate plutocracy instead of a democracy. Free to give even more tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires who haven’t had to sacrifice a single thing. Free to destroy Medicare and Social Security. Right wing policies are entirely UNCHRISTIAN and UNPATRIOTIC, and that is exactly why they are going to have a bad election cycle, and certainly here in Maine where folks have enough of LeBUFFOON and the rest of the TeaRadicals in Augusta.
You obviously know NOTHING about our government – it’s called check and balances. Only the most paranoid would write such drivel.
TrueNative of Mass? Mega yawn.
Anyone that votes for a 1 %er in a time when the economy is owned, controled and destroyed by that group has got to have a few marbles missing!
Oops, OBAMA isn’t he a 1%er, hypocrites!
Not even 10 %
lies come easy once you drink from the messiah’s cool aid
Anyone earning more than $350,000 per year is in the top 1%. His Presidential salary accounts for only $395,000 of his $1,800,000 yearly income in 2010.
He wrote a book or two. That accounts for the rest of the money.
Here’s a short list of 1% ers who should not to be supported;
these people earn more than $250k per year while burning through our tax
dollars; B. Obama, J. Biden, N. Pelosi, and H. Reid
You forgot to put Mittens on your list.
Anyone who takes this story seriously has got to have a few marbles missing. Wow the Washington Post must be drunk on the Obama koolaid.
Dubious data, rampant hyperbole.
Harvard funding was a scholorship, yeah some people are really above the average intelligence level, Frankenstein is not. Get real, nobody releases transcripts when running for President but when one is loosing, like Frankenstein and thinks of some strategy to lie about, all of a sudden transcripts come into play but we can go there because Obama is highly intelligent vs Romney who really isn’t. Communist, come now, hasn’t that McCarthism of the 1960 worn off, I guess you’re pulling for straws. Bill Ayers…like he was 18 years old, what did you do when you or Frankenstein at 18, beat up on his friends. Little Bushie was the Food Stampe President, nice try thou. War on coal, I never heard him said we declare a war on coal. The stimulous was large enough. You, my friend, are the most dangerous human on the face of this earth or maby just plain jealous or maybe just plain stupid or maybe just plain prejudice or maybe all of the above. Contress, right wing controlled has an aproval of 17% and with Frankenstein’s 37%, not guessing the country will be heading in the righ direction, except for the Tea Party will end up paying no taxes, like Frankenstein and maybe you.
Patricia, do you like your room in the asylum?
I guess your little tirade would work out for ya if your were preaching to the brainless, but unfortunately for you, it will land in the trash where it belongs.
Stupid comment.
See my post above for the truth about the ultra flipflopping corporate toadie liar and con-artist MittTwitt RobMe. You are just chirpping right wing talking points. Probably the kind of foolishness you read on FreeRepublic (aka Right Wing NonsenseLand).
Wow! I’d like to see some commercials like that on TV. Very informative; thank you!
I mean, there is so much crap here, I cant be bothered……interesting question though. Why spend so much time on Romney’s family, then ignore the presidents? Is he not a good family man? Just curious, because you draw a lot of strange conclusions based on the makeup of the former Massachussetts govorners family.
Mr.
Romney, please stop lying to the American public and treating us as
if we were stupid. Please show us your tax returns. You are obviously
hiding something really bad.
Romney is a terrible candidate. He’s an unlikable Richie Rich type just bursting to bring back bushonomics on steroids and take health care away from millions of Americans, while offending our allies overseas for good measure. He is running on his financial “expertise” but keeps his financial records tightly sealed. (All the while calling Obama the “stealth candidate” for his supposed secrecy.)
I wish Romney were better, but he’s not. He is a dishonest, cowardly bully who used America to make a fortune then stiffed the country on taxes in return. This is NOT someone who should be president.
This is true- the religious right wouldn’t tolerate a good, centrist candidate that would electable nationally.
You said it.
Wasn’t there a movie where the star was a rat and its name was Willard?
In this Movie the “Rat” is named Willard!
Only morons who have faith in their TV and worship the broadcasts claiming Obama and Romney are the only two you can vote for will vote for these bought and sold corporate stooges. At this point you could vote anyone in and they’d be better than either of these two corporations.
Romney does fit the King of the rats..persona
No Willard was a man but he was king of the rats.
Just another race to the bottom between the standard issue evils. You get to choose the lessor of the two. Happy voting. I intend to write in Pat Paulsen, again. He is still the better man for the job, even posthumously! lol.
Vote Gary Johnson. He is on the ballot in every state.
http://www.garyjohnson2012.com/front
You forgot he’s black… Aside from the standard brushed off propaganda about Obama his healthcare tax is one of the biggest taxes ever. It has a minimum $700 fine.. and it’s a federal tax crime. People will be getting felonies left and right. Obama is working hand in hand with the prison systems and the drug cartels to keep the drug war raging on to fill our prisons.
I can’t agree with Mitt Romney either he is just as bad. Yeah I see how you listed him but that’s all propaganda and Mitt won’t even release his tax returns or birth certificate. We know he was born in Mexico just like we know Obama was born in Kenya. We need to stop letting all these foreign investors rule us.. All they do is bloat the prison population with illegal laws that violate the most basic parts of the constitution.
“Obama is working hand in hand with the prison systems and the drug cartels to keep the drug war raging on to fill our prisons. ”
You SERIOUSLY believe this? Wow.
And what is his motivation for doing that?
Romney is a bullying politician who will do (and is doing) anything to get elected.
He has flipped and flopped on abortion, on state mandates, on the auto industry bail-out, and on other key issues. He was conveniently for the war in Vietnam while hiding behind a religious deferment while living in luxury in a palace mission home in France.
There is plenty I don’t care for in Obama, but I’ll sure take him over someone like Romney.
Obama is king of the bullies, and I can’t imagine choosing Obama over anybody at this point. He always talks (yet says nothing), promises the world, suckers people in to vote for him and then when he can’t deliver, it is Bush’s fault, Congress’ fault, everybody’s fault but his.
He rants about Romney’s tax returns. Too bad he didn’t focus more on the tax returns of the people he put in his cabinet. He is a hypocrite of the 1st order…..and we still have ZERO proof that Romney did anything illegal (and I highly doubt that he did). We KNOW what Obama’s cabinet appointees paid…..errr…didn’t pay.
You have no imagination.
I and others have commented elsewhere on his tax returns (what are the taxes on his Cayman investments?)
Is the fact that we can’t see those tax return a sample of what we could expect from his government if he were to be elected? No transparency? We do know that he will fight to get an even bigger tax cut for himself and others like him… at the expense of everyone else.
If (R)money did nothing wrong then why not release his returns and shut everybody up, he won’t because whatever he is hiding will be worst than not releasing them. I thought (R)money might be a decent person but this is one thing that would turn me off.
He also lied about his returns when he ran for governor of Mass., claiming he had paid his Mass. taxes and was a Mass. resident, wrong he had claimed Utah as resident and then had to retro actively pay Mass taxes for two years and pay Utah for the tax credit he had received on his house. A error? I DON’T THINK SO.

Affordable Care Act removes restrictions on pre-existing conditions, makes
health care more affordable for small businesses, raises the age at which children
can be on their parents’ policies, removes lifetime caps, and more. With the
possible exception of insurance execs, who would not want these changes? 2.
Obama has ended the Iraq war and is drawing the war in Afghanistan to a close
like he said he would. 3. Obama thinks women should have access to free
preventative health care. Why is this still an issue 4. Obama believes in
equality for all people and signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to help
women get equal pay for equal work. 5. Obama repealed the ridiculous Don’t Ask,
Don’t Tell in military policy. 6. Obama is investing in and promoting clean
energy jobs. 7. Obama supports education by giving more flexibility to the No
Child Left Behind legislation and by making college more affordable, 8. Obama
believes millionaires and billionaires should pay their fair share of taxes at
the rates the rest of us have to pay. Isn’t this a no brainer? 9. Despite
inheriting one of the worst economic messes since the Great Depression, Obama
has added 2.6 million private sector jobs to our economy. 10. Even with all the
anti this and anti that of the Republicans whose goal for 4 years has been to
make Obama a one term president, the stock market is at a 5 year high. I gladly
voted for Obama in 2008 and most certainly will in 2012.
He has yet to put his economic recovery plan on paper where we ALL can see it, he screwed us with the British by smacking them in the face over the typical event ‘hiccup’s’ that happen at all these type event’s, he send’s so many mixed signal’s in Israel that they are still trying to figure out what he actually said, he got the Palestinian’s ready to come over the border by smacking their culture in the press and then goes to Poland and is so mild as to be compared to gray paint as a Hi-Gloss color. What hasn’t he done so far to sink to the bottom ? And now to add to this he’s actually thinking about having Ryan as his running mate. This keeps up and he’s going to start being paid as the Democrat’s best campaign worker ! Everytime Mitt opens his mouth he says a lot but never does he actually provide any information as to just what he’s planning on doing in the event he might actually win the election. What’s next, UFO’s landing on the White House lawn with ‘Mitt for Prez’ sign’s hanging ? SNL needs to get Mitt’s campaign manager as their next head writer if this keeps up.
When Romney went to Israel , he stopped off at the West Bank to hide some money!!!!
And to praise Israel’s single payer health care system… go figure…
Romney also praised Britain’s and Poland’s single payer health plan too, go figure.
Yep. I saw / read that, too. What a maroon. Doesn’t even know he’s unwittingly supporting the President’s similar healthcare plan.
i dont care who romney is i will vote for him. The fact is he can do no worse than obama.
Hang on the rides gonna get wild!
He can and will do a lot worse. Pay much closer attention to what he is saying and NOT saying… The tax cuts and spending cuts he proposes, as do many in the gop today, could push the country into a depression… You would likely be just one more victim of the 1%’s greed and arrogance if Romney steals this election.
Is it any wonder Romney’s poll ratings are dismal?
He’s got Bush plans with sissy war hawk Bush advisors already beating the war drum that will produce Bush results.
We’ve witnessed enough trickled down nonsense to realize that we’re drowning in its wake and its pretty bad smelling stuff. How about trying something different Mitt then people won’t think your nuts by doing the same thing and expecting a different result.
It worked very well for my family.
Ask a carpenter or builder or appliance salesman, flooring contractor?
When people have more money to spend they spend it and have spent it.
Sure, there’s no arguing with that at least until the housing bubble burst and the house of cards came crashing down and millions lost their homes.
A strong, vibrant middle class is how this country grew to what it is today, not through trickle down give aways to the wealthy. Any carpenter, builder, or appliance salesman or flooring contractor would love to have the work being provided by middle class families that don’t have to worry about their jobs being devoured by a 1%-er’s private equity firm…
The history of the middle class in this country is something you would do well to learn more about. There would be a large increase in work and sales for the folks you mentioned if it weren’t for the 1% hoarding the vast majority of wealth, income and opportunity for themselves.
Romney is the BEST example of whats wrong with this country…. We send our sons and daughters overseas to fight for our freedom. He uses that freedom to hide money in foreign countries so as not to pay for the freedom paid for by their blood.
Shame on him and all like him.
If your an American, you should bust someone in the mouth for trying to defend him.
Ah, “American”. Pugilistic to a fault. (un)Real Americans.
I assume you’ll be protesting at Rochelle Pingree’s estate. Her husband has a huge tax shelter in the Virgin islands. Think globally, act locally.
http://pjmedia.com/richardfernandez/2012/06/13/sideways/
Oh, and don’t forget to bust anyone in the mouth who tries to defend them.
“The Maine News Wire Dot Com, recently published an article headlined,
“Sussman associates entangled in Virgin Islands bribery scandal,” that
reads: “Associates of Congreewoman Chellie Pingree’s husband,
billionaire hedge fund investor, S. Donald Sussman, have become key
players in a bribery scandal that is rocking the U.S. Department of
Justice and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Sussman has been a resident of the
USVI for years, and uses a controversial tax shelter managed by the
Virgin Islands Economic Development Commission (EDC) for his company,
Trust Asset Management.”
Guilt by association? Classy. Proves a lot, eh?
But you do raise a good point, oldtimer… I wonder how many on both sides of the aisle that have off shore accounts contribute to the $21 to $32 TRILLION socked away avoiding tax consequences… It is legal… more or less… Moral or patriotic? That’s another question altogether.
Careful there sdemetri, Chris Strickland is likely to bust you in the mouth for defending someone who hides money in a foreign country like Pingree and Sussman do.
The top 10% of income earners
already pay more than 70% of income taxes in this country. Of course this
little fact does not prohibit writers like Mr. Kinsley from parroting “the rich
don’t pay their fair share” mantra of the Obama administration
Is it how BIG you have grown the government, how many
people are collecting food stamps, or maybe how many roads you have built or
repaired using TAX payers money? By the way these roads are built by private
companies using TAX payer’s money collected from tax paying citizens working in
the PRIVATE SECTOR! Now I’ll tell you how we measure success, if you can
SUPPORT yourself and your family by working and not from government handouts! But who cares if Obama wins
the election…? Just as long as the Republicans win a majority in the Senate
and maintain control of the House, it’s a win win. Not only for the tea party,
but for Republicans and the working citizens of the USA!
Uninformed comment…
Either you are a 1%-er that has gotten the benefits that wealth and power afford, or are a wannabe apologist, preaching against your own self interest because you too are getting the shaft by the inequality structured into the system by the 1%. (You really think these folks have YOUR interests in mind… the working citizens of America…? My arse…)
“But one big part of the reason we have so much inequality is that the
top 1 percent want it that way. The most obvious example involves tax
policy. Lowering tax rates on capital gains, which is how the rich
receive a large portion of their income, has given the wealthiest
Americans close to a free ride. Monopolies and near monopolies have
always been a source of economic power—from John D. Rockefeller at the
beginning of the last century to Bill Gates at the end. Lax enforcement
of anti-trust laws, especially during Republican administrations, has
been a godsend to the top 1 percent. Much of today’s inequality is due
to manipulation of the financial system, enabled by changes in the rules
that have been bought and paid for by the financial industry itself—one
of its best investments ever. The government lent money to financial
institutions at close to 0 percent interest and provided generous
bailouts on favorable terms when all else failed. Regulators turned a
blind eye to a lack of transparency and to conflicts of interest.
When
you look at the sheer volume of wealth controlled by the top 1 percent
in this country, it’s tempting to see our growing inequality as a
quintessentially American achievement—we started way behind the pack,
but now we’re doing inequality on a world-class level. And it looks as
if we’ll be building on this achievement for years to come, because what
made it possible is self-reinforcing. Wealth begets power, which begets
more wealth. During the savings-and-loan scandal of the 1980s—a scandal
whose dimensions, by today’s standards, seem almost quaint—the banker
Charles Keating was asked by a congressional committee whether the $1.5
million he had spread among a few key elected officials could actually
buy influence. “I certainly hope so,” he replied. The Supreme Court, in
its recent Citizens United case, has enshrined the right of
corporations to buy government, by removing limitations on campaign
spending. The personal and the political are today in perfect alignment.
Virtually all U.S. senators, and most of the representatives in the
House, are members of the top 1 percent when they arrive, are kept in
office by money from the top 1 percent, and know that if they serve the
top 1 percent well they will be rewarded by the top 1 percent when they
leave office. By and large, the key executive-branch policymakers on
trade and economic policy also come from the top 1 percent. When
pharmaceutical companies receive a trillion-dollar gift—through
legislation prohibiting the government, the largest buyer of drugs, from
bargaining over price—it should not come as cause for wonder. It should
not make jaws drop that a tax bill cannot emerge from Congress unless
big tax cuts are put in place for the wealthy. Given the power of the
top 1 percent, this is the way you would expect the system to work.” Nobel Prize in economics winner, Joseph Stieglitz.
And these charts will disabuse you of the false picture you’ve painted about what the 1% have and do with what they have…
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2011/02/income-inequality-in-america-chart-graph
I’d be more convinced of your tax argument if the tax code wasn’t 73,000 pages long. The only reason to make the tax system so complicated is to carve out tax breaks for special interests.
The rich wouldn’t pay so much Taxes if they paid the help instead!
And the welfare crowd wouldn’t need welfare with substinance wage level jobs! They are their own worst enemy! The Walmart Family Dynasty owns 40 % of all the Wealth in America! And they need tax breaks to survive to create more jobs?Insanity!
People forget that president Obama bailed out GM they were building several auto plants in China, India, and Mexico.
Later there was massive outsourcing of jobs overseas for green intiatives.
Do we really want that type of hypocrisy?
President Obama is better for America?
Betty Sutton is correct (democrat) we are losing 15 manufacturing jobs a day, and the president campaigned on how bad NAFTA is for the economy(perks for big corps)….but yet he says he does not want to do anything about it because the economy is so bad?
Lets be real here.
Yeah, let’s be real here… Which party serves the plutocracy more, the repubs with their tax cuts to the wealthiest, their deregulation agenda, their privatization agenda, their give aways to the oil industry (exempting much of the oil industry from the Clean Air and Clean Water acts), or the pharmaceutical industry (refusing to allow negotiating for better drug prices), the defense industry, and Big Agriculture with repeated subsidies in the Farm Bills that were originally designed to help small to medium sized family farms…
Or, the dems, with their favors to the financial industry by way of watering down REAL reforms in Dodd/Frank financial reform legislation, their give aways to the insurance industry by abandoning the wishes of a majority of Americans wanting a single payer system, their reluctance to stand up to Big Oil and finance a true revolution in alternative energy…?
The problem is with the plutocrats having captured BOTH parties to do their bidding at the expense of the middle class… Government is now of the 1%, by the 1%, and for the 1%.
Get on the right side of history.
Arrest the rich and their business operatives who have hired illegal immigrants the past 25 years, confiscate their ill gotten booty (profits) they stole during that period, and use that prize money to fund national healthcare for all from birth, fund infrastructure rebuilding jobs (finally) and fund education programs for all. Presto! No more financial crisis and no more American unemployment. Remember, these crooks and their banksters have schemed away trillionsk of American dollars (22 trillion or so by some estimates) and this money is just sitting offshore as untaxable and begging to be confiscated. It only takes our vote for the right representatives and passing a law, retroactively, that will provide the legal basis to grab it all back. Don’t be distracted by their Fox news bells and whistles, or their American Idols, their Voices or the Dances with the Stars, or even their Nascars. Keep your eyes on the prize … electing our representatives who will pass laws to confiscate the ill gotten booty … just floating offshore, metaphorically speaking. Let’s make sure this happens before all of the one percenters declare themselves non-U.S. citizens. They’ve already started, because they know its coming … sooner than later.
Romney’s tax plan is a joke.
Romney doesn’t know what it’s like to be a working American or one living in poverty and hasn’t the capacity to understand it either.
This country isn’t a business he can run. Governing people is not the same as running a business.
Please tell me what Obama brings to the table, experience-wise, to better run the country (or anything for that matter).
Compassion for real people, not for the bottom line.
He got Bin Laden and got us out of Iraq. Somehow Dubya never managed that.
Thats because Dubya and his buddies at Haliburton brought us there. Why would he want to leave?
And as far as Bin Laden goes, well, they dumped his body at sea before anyone none government or military related got to see even a whisker. “We checked the DNA with his sister. Its a match. So we chucked him.”
Right.
Lots of things could have happened to Bin Laden over the last couple/few decades. Lots.
Before he was elected, as the campaign was in full swing, McCain “suspended” his campaign and called a meeting to unavail his plan to deal with the financial crisis…
When the meeting convened McCain looked like a deer caught in the headlights, completely fumbled the ball… Obama came into this meeting and stole the show. He asked all the right questions of the Treasury and finance people. He knew the ins and outs of the private derivatives market that like a vacuum cleaner was sucking up securitized subprime mortgage instruments as fast as Countrywide, Citigroup, Bank of America, and Freddy and Fannie to a lesser extent, could dupe people into signing up for. He saw the gravity of the problem and dominated the policy end of this meeting… McCain left there like a puppy with his tail between his legs for peeing on the carpet…
This post links to a very good history of this meeting… Let me encourage you to study it and argue against it based on the merits of what it says… Regurgitating Faux News’ faux news is not very convincing for those aware of the deeper backstory. Cheaps shots (ad hominems) against someone as accomplished as Obama without any logical arguments of support isn’t convincing for anyone, backstories or no.
http://sdemetri.wordpress.com/2012/06/04/the-great-recession/
You do understand that the president is but the face of the government, right? And you do know that at the end of the day its really the billionaires who decide which buttons to push? And you do know that presidents generally dont write their own speeches, or have brains of their own? You could disagree, but considering the majority of Americans are not of rather high intelligence, it stands to reason that mediocre people are going to elect a mediocre president. And, you do know that Obama hasn’t decided to make healthcare free for all Americans, and nor has he solved any of America’s issues. If he were as brilliant as you suggest, I would have expected some changes. Fact is the economy is still in the toilet, healthcare isnt free and we havn’t rid the world of religion. Id expect any great leader to be able to accomplish at least one of those feats. Especially considering America is pretty much THE world super power. Id expect the man at the head of the ship to really make some progress…. Truth is, Corporate America bought the White House long ago. This is capitalism, after-all. Its all doomed to failure because its based on exploitation. Everything is made a commodity, including you and me.
Ad hominem… havnt seen anyone use that term on the BDN comments yet. Funny, cause ive certainly seen them doing it a whole lot. I find most people simply cannot debate or argue without resorting to personal attacks and the like.
If that is true, then Obama isn’t quite owned by those billionaireds since the majority of ’em are backing their hack, Romney.
Then add three outstanding years of service to our country as President of the United States to that. Bingo! A winner!
How about three tough years as President of the United States of America … completed with style and class. What a welcome relief. At work, and we’ve all seen him, he sweats, he probably stinks and he’s tough. And now that my man, Ron Paul, has been, again, dumped by the Republican elites, as a registered republican, I’m voting for Obama … again.
A picture is worth thousand words… Note the sign behind Romney above, especially the top left hand corner in big white letters… HACK… Pretty much says it all…
A wealthy hack, I’ll give him that, but a hack… born with a silver spoon in his mouth, the 1%’s 1%-er, claiming to know something about the middle class when he has NEVER stepped foot in the middle class… never has to worry for one second about anything the average middle class family has to worry about, such as losing a job because a private equity firm is buying their employers, disemboweling the company and selling it off for a profit… a profit that largely goes into offshore accounts feeding the already $21 to $32 TRILLION in offshore money the 1% has hidden away to prevent from paying taxes on… (unemployed, bad roads, bad bridges, social safety nets, the elderly, the poor, children… meh… who cares about any of that… I’ve got my 1, 2, 5, 15 homes….)
HACK… Very fitting.
A lib stealing a Howie Carr phase . Copy cat Copy cat.
What phrase does Howie Carr own?
With over 45 Million Americans on Food Stamps and around
47% of working Americans not paying any Federal income taxes who then is carrying
the load for the Federal government? To even suggest raising taxes is an insult
to everyone’s intelligence. Stop the runaway spending by Congress and balance
your budget… Stop borrowing money which our kids will only have to pay back
with interest! We all need to learn again how to do more with less as the free
ride is clearly over. Rome is burning and you still talk about class warfare,
it’s a disgrace to past leaders and citizens of this once great nation.
Bottom line is Obama’s call to raise taxes only on the rich
would bring in about 87 Billion a year, but he’s running a 1.2 Trillion yearly
spending deficit! This is only a game for him in order to win reelection; he
seems to have little interest in solving the over spending problem and getting
the USA back to work with private sector jobs. Obama’s reelection platform is
about two things; tax the rich and create more government jobs…
All those working Americans are NOT paying taxes because living on Walmart wages THEY DON’T MAKE ENOUGH TO PAY TAXES… nor to make ends meet… which is why Walmart counsels many of the low wage workers which government assistance programs they should avail themselves of… And in case the irony of this escape you, that means TAXPAYERS are subsidizing one of the wealthiest corporations on the planet REGULARLY…
How much the wealthiest pay in taxes is a RED HERRING… they are paying the least amount of taxes on their income in decades…
You would do well to study the link I gave you below to disabuse yourself of your bad information.
Class warfare…!? It has apparently gotten by you that the LARGEST redistribution of wealth in our history has taken place. As the US economy DOUBLED in size since the 1980’s wealth, income and opportunity have flowed UPWARD to the top quintile… NOT downward… Black is not white… ANY measure of these statistics shows the redistribution has been UPWARD, benefiting the wealthy, leaving the middle class with flat or falling wages, one crisis away – a sickness, a job loss, divorce – from bankruptcy.
CLASS WARFARE has been waged against the middle class for the past 40 years. Get on the right side of history…
“…leaving the middle class with flat or falling wages, one crisis away – a sickness, a job loss, divorce – from bankruptcy.”
Indeed. Thats how they like it. Thats how they keep people in line. Its all set up to funnel people into the gutter where they stay. Gotta have a crappy job because you have no choice.
Down with Capitalism.
No. Down with capitalism that doesn’t have social responsibility and doesn’t pay its fair share to care for those who, by design, as you correctly point out, and not by their own chosing, have much less.
I hope bdcstrong1 is a rich bugger, because otherwise, bdcstrong1 has been duped by the rich. They pay less than they did under Reagan…..
Umm. Sorry, but you left out the untaxed trillions of dollars hid “offshore”, which would easily cover, forever, job creation, infrastructure rebuilding, national healthcare and public education. A 1.2 trillion spending deficit dissappears when these untaxed trillions offshore hit the light of day. Don’t they?
The liberals state a lie often enough until it becomes the truth with the media–oh, wait, the media people help to make that lie become the truth!
Remember that we knew nothing about Barack Hussein Obama, yet he was elected. Mitt Romney has earned his millions, but Obama has gained millions on falsities provided in his books that were written by someone else.
How do you know that he “earned” his money?
He won’t disclose his returns,
he may have stole it!
Praise Allah!
Hail Satan.
Romney is perceived as an elitist by many centrists and not nearly radical enough by many in his own party (the Tea Party and most of the southern voters practically have him down as a Kennedy). As far as energizing the base, at his best he’s about as inspiring as wallpaper paste.
I’m sure the Koch brothers are working furiously behind the scenes to orchestrate a Hail Mary, but the simple fact is that for every voter who thinks Obama is a Socialist/Muslim/Hitler, there’s a voter who doesn’t like or trust Romney, either.
lets see:
– managing one of the worst economic conditions of our time, who knows this may be one of the best presidential jobs of our time, where would we be without stimulus pkg that put hundreds of thousands of people to work with ARRA funds. government run refinancing opportunities that never existed before to get people out of those adjustable loans the were forcing foreclosures. not perfect and needs to be better but comon lets be fair when looking at this.
– health care for the sick and traditionally unable to afford, driving prices and premiums down, boy thats horrible!!!!
-binladen gone
-libya- liberated
– countries like egypt, tunesia, syria, iran wanting our way of life again, didnt see much of that the previous 8 years.
So I will stick with this guy, not judging against perfection on the opponent and no thanks on the spoiled corporate billionare that will only build alliances with those that caused this problem.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/us-election/8959440/US-election-2012-Mitt-Romneys-life-as-a-poor-Mormon-missionary-in-France-questioned.html
The fact is that he keeps getting caught in lies. Once lied to, how do you ever have confidence again?
The more people get to know Romney, the worse he is going to do.
It seems almost every word out of Romney’s mouth is a LIE.
I’m wondering about Romney Cayman investments. Isn’t income from them “tax free’? Is that one of the reasons he’s only releasing two years of tax returns?
Nobody commented on the accuracy of the poll. The Pew group has in the past leaned conservative. If a less biased group ran the polls, the results could be even less favorable for Romney.
Dismal? why bother having the election at all?
He’s so vacant. He never said anything during the primaries and he won because no real candidates w/o skeletons in the closet or flat out crazy ran against him.
Now he just says that happy days will be here again if he’s elected, but I think he’s talking about people of his ilk.
Lower taxes, more military spending, less unemployment, balanced budget, repeal Romneycare, tougher stand on bad countries, traditional marriage (funny coming from a person of his religious background!). This is all that I’ve read that he will do if elected. That is so much nothing.
It’s time for him to fess up to what his plans really are……doesn’t he have a 56 step manifesto? And about those tax filings and off-shore accounts.
Facts: Romney hasn’t paid taxes in 10 years, made Masachusetts 37 in job creation, outsourced jobs to China and India, laid off Bain Capital workers who were on the jobs for over 10 years, some 20, uses “lie” to try to win election, never worked a day in his life, neither has Anne, wants to make Medicare into a voucher program, end social security and if elected end all taxes for big oil, the banks, all his ultra billionaire donors and of course himself. Basically, he’ll be a puppet for the 1%, screw the middle class.
Patricia; how is your therapy progressing?
Im glad you know Mitt hasnt paid taxes in the last 10 yrs…. You saved us a lot of work..
Harry Reid is that you?
Harry Reid is counting on people like you, don’t let him down
A vote for Frankenstein is a vote for little Bushie, and we all know where the country will be heading with his approval of 37% and Congress of 17%.
Last time I looked the Tea Republican House approval was at 7 % approval.
Just think if Frankenstein is elected President, all the money will go to paying back his ultra billionair donors, nothing left for the country.
Little Bushie is coming a calling again… via Mitt Romney reincarnate….the USA deserves a depressed economy if they are chumps enought to vote for this fool.
You can count on one thing….Mitty will create jobs, jobs only for late night comedy.
It’ll be too bad if numb numbs gets another go round to pound us further down the road of socialism. He of many tongues.
Socialism… how so, do tell? With details… Or are you just repeating what you’ve been told?
The only truly socialist program that this country employs is the VA. Govt run hospitals with govt employees… and so far it has been a relatively successful system for vets. Not perfect, but nothing is.
So, please, expound on what exactly you think is evidence of socialism in the policies that this admin has resorted to to try to get the country out of the mess the One Party rule folks have gotten us into. Do you mean the individual mandate in the ACA, like Romney’s individual mandate? Or the individual mandate Nixon proposed, or the Heritage Foundation, or any number of other republicans over the DECADES people have been trying to reform the health care system? Do tell…
I always love to read the comments, brings a smile to my face……Very few down the middle folks post here, such a shame..
So, it looks as though the liberals that post on here would really like to have obama reelected ! o.k. lets go back and look at the history of the obama administration.
Well, where should I start ? lets go back to 2009 and revisit the obama stimulus package,or otherwise known the “American recovery and reinvestment act”,obama told us that if it did’nt pass then unemployment would rise dramatically and the deficit would expand. fast forward to present day, unemployment has be between 8 and 10%,not counting those that have fallen out of the picture that are not being counted. that package cost taxpayers 800 billion bucks with no measurable postive affects !
This next one is just a bit easer to understand, gasoline prices.yes, gas prices have increased 100% since good old obama took office.you can plan on them going higher still ! remember the keystone pipeline ? sure ya do,obama shot that one down, remember ?
These are just a few of the facts because these acts are in the history books. I could go on for pages and pages of the facts on what obama has failed us on,but there is not enough room here for that, but i will save some for later though.
Facts? One could drive an 18 wheeler through the holes you’ve left between the “facts” you cite… The ARRA prevented the loss of a few more million jobs: middle class jobs held by teachers, police, fire fighters… (And please, don’t tell me these AREN’T middle class jobs, paying middle class wages, which the middle class employees spend on food, health care, housing and transportation…) ARRA had very measurable results that only a partisan would ignore.
Could the stimulus package have been larger to match the size of the hole in the economy that needed to be fixed? Absolutely. Several advisors told him that. Obstructionists prevented… that is, pure POLITICS prevented a bigger stimulus package, a faster recovery, a lower unemployment rate. Thank the obstructionists who say repeatedly that their program is to make this president fail.
Gasoline prices are set by the buying and selling that takes place in the oil markets… not by presidential determination…
Later has come… present your “facts…” but, please, present some evidence, any evidence, you are using the “facts” correctly…
I just gotta say….I think Fatdos’s facts are one heck of a lot more factual facts than your facts.
Prove it. If you can… Other than that, I don’t give a damn what you gotta say…
OOOo, sdemetri got up on the left side of the bed this morning. There’s nothing I enjoy more than to ruffle left wing feathers. First I don’t have to prove anything, but here are some truths if you can handle it. In contrast to your “facts”, there are a lot of things that come out of the White House that affect oil prices. Off shore drilling, approval or denial of all leases within US coastal waters and on federal lands, pipelines such as the Keystone Pipeline, ethanol subsidies, environmental regulations (which now carry the weight of law), etc., etc. Now, you are correct that buying and selling oil sets price, but numerous government activities also influence the price of oil including opening or closing the US oil reserves, the US Navy activities in the Gulf which is a presidential decision. Also as far as the ‘stimulus’ that saved or created all those jobs..unemployment is the same or worse and now the federal deficit has skyrocketed to where it will never be paid off. I could go on and on, but there’s sense in doing that with an Obamaphile.

Well, you’re scratching the surface. An intellectually honest person might ask the question given the positive effects of a too small stimulus package (graciously listed above for you) if a bigger package might have been appropriate. Here is what FDR did, and the situation today is remarkably similar to what happened then:
“If the banking system is crippled, then to be effective
the public sector must do much, much more. How much more? By how much
can spending be raised in a real depression? And does this remedy work?
[E]conomist Marshall Auerback….
“[Roosevelt’s] government hired about 60 per cent of the unemployed
in public works and conservation projects that planted a billion trees,
saved the whooping crane, modernized rural America, and built such
diverse projects as the Cathedral of Learning in Pittsburgh, the Montana
state capitol, much of the Chicago lakefront, New York’s Lincoln Tunnel
and Triborough Bridge complex, the Tennessee Valley Authority and the
aircraft carriers Enterprise and Yorktown. It also built or renovated
2,500 hospitals, 45,000 schools, 13,000 parks and playgrounds, 7,800
bridges, 700,000 miles of roads, and a thousand airfields. And it
employed 50,000 teachers, rebuilt the country’s entire rural school
system, and hired 3,000 writers, musicians, sculptors and painters,
including Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock.”
In other words, Roosevelt employed Americans on a vast scale,
bringing the unemployment rates down to levels that were tolerable, even

surely were.”http://sdemetri.wordpress.com/2012/07/04/what-real-economic-stimulus-looks-like/The reason a bigger package didn’t happen was because of politics, from the gop. Put blame where it is due.
Ok, sux, I’ll bite… Here are some real facts, from the Congressional Budget Office… actual, measurable positive effects…
“CBO estimates that in the
second quarter of calendar year 2010, ARRA’s policies:
Raised the level of real (inflation-adjusted) gross domestic product
(GDP) by between 1.7 percent and 4.5 percent,Lowered the unemployment rate by between 0.7 percentage points and 1.8
percentage points,Increased the number of people employed by between 1.4 million and 3.3
million, andIncreased the number of full-time-equivalent (FTE) jobs by 2.0 million
to 4.8 million compared with what those amounts would have been otherwise.
(Increases in FTE jobs include shifts from part-time to full-time work or
overtime and are thus generally larger than increases in the number of
employed workers.)”

Of course, quoting actual government statistics to some people is like talking to a chair. I hope you, sux, aren’t one of those…
Here ya go fats, a few facts for ya…

Gas prices in the last summer of the George W. Bush presidency topped $4. When the George W. Bush Great Recession got underway, and everyone, including George W. Bush, realized what was heading our way, oil companies started dropping their prices. They knew that in the coming recession, people wouldn’t be buying $4 gasoline. So the price dropped to $2 and as far as I know they continued to make money. But here is the important point. In the last summer of the George W. Bush presidency, gasoline was above $4. Repeat – above $4.
This is true, but all politicians are taking a hit these days.
The poll numbers ate still not as dismal as MittTwitt RobMe deserves, but hopefully it is getting there. RobMe is an ultra hyprocritical flip flopper of the very worst order. To pander to the TeaRadicals who now, along with their corporate fatcat backers, control the TeaPublican Party, MittTwitt has flipped from virtually every moderate position he ever held as governor of Massachusetts. It is just sickening. He is an absolute empty suit phony who will say or do anything to pander to whomever he needs to pander to.
Next, he was a corporate JOB KILLER at Bain Capital and tried to have it both ways as to the timing of his departure from that company. He says 1999, but he remained the CEO “on paper” so he could keep getting a huge salary. He was still on the payroll, in a big way, until 2003. He unpatrioticly celebrates the fact that he has been able to take advantage of fatcat overseas tax shelters, shell companies, and foreign bank accounts including Swiss bank accounts so he can pay half the tax rates as everyone else. He refuses to release more than the last two years of his tax records, and he has released only part of those, because he wants to hide all this. Mr. Obama and candidates going back to RobMe’s own father have released multiple years of tax returns. What are you hiding MittTwitt? And the list goes on. His economic policy is all corporate toadie right wing sludge that just helps the rich like him to get richer while raising taxes and cutting vital services for everyone else. He wants to turn Medicare into a voucher program. He wants to destroy Social Security. He wants to repeal what is a TWIN of his own ROMNEYCARE Massachusetts healthcare law which he once said should be a national model. He wants to go back to 1950’s policies when it comes to women’s healthcare. (And of course this can be said of the entire corporate toadie TeaPublican party.) He is a pawn of the Koch Brothers who have given him millions of dollars. It is all just disgusting. The TeaPublican Koch Brothers Party is rotten to the very core, is the job-killing fraud party of the drug addict and college dropout Rush Limpmind and nuts like Glen Beck, and not only does RobMe need to be defeated bigtime, but so does every TeaRadical in Congress and at the state level. Look for the TeaPubs to take a serious beating here at home. People are just sick of them.
Polls, LOL!!.
There are no polls left that don’t have an agenda.
I was polled and asked about who I thought sang better. 2nd question was which presidential candidate came out of Chicago my answer was Obama again.
So I guess Obama was leading in the polls
Willard loves the Constitution and likes ALL of the amendments, including the 18th AND the 21st. Very logical.
Big Government – Big Church – Big Business: What ever happened to the separation of church and state? When The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) – The Mormons, drastically downsized The Deseret News (the Utah church owned newspaper) the top LDS church officials dispersed many of the writers (who are LDS faithful) to go worldwide to function in the capacity of contributing writers to the media (radio, tv, magazines, and newspapers – let’s not forget the LDS church historians working the internet and public opinion polls). Their contributions to the media and internet have been most apparent during this 2012 Presidential Election with the earlier pro Romney and pro LDS/Mormon media coverage.
Possible future President of the US, Mitt Romney certainly has the comfort of knowing it will not be the children of his fellow church members that will be fighting in any U.S. wars. The State of Utah lawmakers and other LDS/Mormon faithful lawmakers went to Washington in the 70’s and made sure federal regulation was passed to exempt their 19-24 year old men and women from serving in the US Military. On any given day The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) – The Mormons has as many 40,000 young men and women missionaries in this age group serving their church worldwide.
Big Government – Big Church – Big Business: What ever happened to the separation of church and state? It is quite disturbing to perform an internet search for Utah Transit Authority Park and Ride Lots, and be provided with a list on the UTA website of what seems to contain dozens if not every one of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) – The Mormons, church locations in Salt Lake, Davis, Tooele, Weber, and Utah counties – some of the largest counties in the state of Utah. Is the LDS church receiving federal/state tax dollar compensation for the use of these locations? If so, since when did US federal tax payors begin paying the operational/maintainence costs of organized religions of which there are thousands? I am sure the LDS church would love to do the same in your state, and probably will as GOP candidate Mitt Romney and other LDS faithful lawmakers go to Washington to continue to push for state’s rights. What ever happened to the household expression of “the separation of church and state” anyway? I think we can probably thank Utah Senator Orin Hatch and other LDS faithful lawmakers for launching and adamantly pursuing the movement for states rights (under the guise of FREEDOM FOR AMERICA) and for smudging that fine line to exempt the LDS church and the State of Utah from federal guidelines.
Mitt Romney the devout Mormon, may have lowered his standards to win this Presidental election. For decades The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) – The Mormons and its faithful church members have taken a strong, and very vocal unalterable stance against gambling in any form including lotteries, internet gambling, racetracks, and casinos. Sheldon Adelson (CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation and Venetian Macao Ltd.) son of a Ukranian Jewish immigrant (also financier of Romney’s recent visit to Isreal), and his wife recently gave $10 million to the pro-Romney super PAC named Restore Our Future. Adelson the Las Vegas casino magnate has pledged to spend $100 million to defeat Obama. Adelson’s very large contributions can easily make Romney a shoe in for the President of the United States. It will probably be after Romney officially wins the GOP nomination at the National Republican Convention in Tampa, Florida in August 2012 that the American public can expect this Super PAC money to be spent in massive negative campaign ads against Obama.
What bad news or negatives from overseas? He told the truth and the liberals hate that as they can not take the truth. He is outraising Barry Hussain Obama and is doing well on most accounts.
I’m afraid what we have here as a candidate is very akin to the lackluster John McCain of 2008. Romney is what the GOP establishment wanted, and so, once again, they will be defeated.
How can Romney expect any one to vote for him when he is a Pathological LIAR. McCain saw 20 years of Romney’s income taxes then gave the Vice President slot to Twit Palin. McCain was that scared.
Here’s more fodder for the national spectacle of professional actors working for the corporatocracy pretending to represent different interests by “battling” one another on your behalf. Substitute tv sports commentators for the usual anointed political pundits and the level of serious examination of what’s going on could only improve.
Most of the voters are sports fans in spirit — only the kind of sports fans far more interested in screaming for the blood of the other team than learning to discern genuine athletic talent. People who believe there’s much difference between RobMe and ObombMe probably would be upset to learn that World Wrestling matches are circus entertainments, not real sporting events.
You sorely need to stop listening to Faux News.
The Executive branch ‘power grab’ you refer to was already ‘pulled off’ by Dubya Cheney-Bush et al courtesy of white House counsel John Yoo and Attorney General Alberto ’75 times before lunch
“I don’t recall” Gonzalez’ and the magical 4th branch of government without ‘We The People’s’ knowledge or permission.
And even after we became aware of what was really going on, it was done OVER our objections
– before Obama ever came along to be nominated and win the Presidency of the United States.
Stop spreading your crap. A Rominee puppet with the same power would be a disaster for this country. Been there done that. Obama, at least, has a conscience and a soul.
Let me add, Obama needs to make sure, during his next term, to return to the notion of the ‘balance of power’ between the three branches of our democracy which the forefathers intended, because he’s the only one who would ever bother to reset our Constitutional pendulum. A ‘Romney’ never would, that’s for sure!
Obama 2012. Even more important than before.
