PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Members of the South Portland-based Teamsters Local 340 are once again planning a statewide food drive to benefit Aroostook County families.

The Teamsters Local 340 Women’s Committee is heading up its 4th annual drive for the Catholic Charities of Maine in Caribou.

The group will conduct a two-day statewide food drive beginning July 20. It will wrap up July 21 during the 65th annual Potato Blossom Festival parade, said Traci Place, a business agent for the union.

On Friday, the Teamsters Joint Council 10 tractor-trailer will roll from Kittery to Presque Isle, stopping along the way so members of Teamsters Local 340 can fill it with nonperishable food donations.

On Saturday, the tractor-trailer will head to Fort Fairfield, where the truck will be in the parade. Teamsters members and representatives from Catholic Charities of Maine will be collecting canned goods and donations along the parade route. The procession begins at 1 p.m.

Teamsters Local 340 has nearly 4,000 members.

Through the “Feed the County” program, Catholic Charities maintains its own food bank and supplies goods to 25 food pantries in Aroostook County from Wytopitlock to St. Francis and Fort Fairfield to Ashland. Last year Teamsters collected 30,000 pounds of food and $1,600 in monetary donations.

All donations will be delivered to Catholic Charities Maine Home Supplies and Food Bank in Caribou following the parade.

Place said Friday that the group had already collected more than $850 in donations and a great deal of food.

“We have also received confirmation from B&M Beans of a donation of 5 pallets of beans and a generous donation from Country Farms Markets in Easton and Washburn,” she added.

People who want to donate nonperishable canned goods can bring them to the following locations on Friday, July 20:

Kittery Town Hall in Kittery from 6:45 to 7:15 a.m; UPS in Wells from 7:30 to 7:45 a.m.; Interstate Brands dock in Wells, 8 to 8:30 a.m.; B&M Baked Beans dock stop in Wells, 8:30 to 8:45 a.m.; Teamsters Local 340 in South Portland, 9 to 9:30 a.m.; Keebler dock, South Portland, 10:15 to 10:30 a.m.; Irving Blue Canoe, Auburn, 10:45 to 11:15 a.m.; Circle K, Augusta, 11:55 a.m. to 12:25 p.m.; Irving/Circle K, Fairfield, 1 to 1:30 p.m.; Newport Irving Big Stop, 2:10 to 2:40 p.m.; Dysart’s, Hermon, 3:20 to 3:50 p.m; Circle K, Medway, 5 to 5:15 p.m.; Irving Big Stop, Houlton, 6:15 to 6:30 p.m.; Teamsters Local 340, U.S. Route 1, Presque Isle, 7:30 to 8 p.m.
