AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage is encouraging businesses to respond to the 2012 Maine Business Survey, which is available online and poses about 40 questions.
Responses received over the next several weeks will help drive future economic policy decisions by the administration.
Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner George Gervais said the survey gives businesses a unique opportunity to influence Maine’s future business climate and their own profitability.
The survey asks businesses to rate everyday challenges from attracting and retaining employees to overall infrastructure needs. It also digs deeper into specific policy areas such as work force development, regulation, access to capital and incentives, workers compensation and marketing.

Geeze, I thought that all his answers to any questions or policy decisions were already being handled by the MHPC, or the Tea Party.
A sample question:
What is the biggest problem Maine businesses face ?
A. Obama
B. High taxes on the rich
C. Those pesky minimum wages
D. OSHA
E No East-West Highway
F. Democrats
G. All of the above
It is BigPaws race to the bottom list, for the Tea Party Drones. You one of the KOCH Brothers blogging on here?
Jobs for the underclasses, not benefits and corporate dividends for the top end. Focus is all out of whack. Go attract business. But LePage and his brownshirts (all of whom seem to be fairly well off and don’t need the jobs – heck, several can run for the Senate while “working” full time) don’t seem inclined to do any more than attack the middle and lower classes claiming fraud and manipulation against everyone. How about a taxpayer funded University system that places more emphasis on ridiculous Admin pay, “creation” of positions to “accommodate” certain indivduals and expansion than on education? This staunch teaparty stance needs to be mellowed, the environmental protections in place generally left alone, business environment improved, taxes reduced and leave those that truly need help alone. LePage needs to start with a thorough review of asinine Administrative pay and benefits for upper level government employees. Eliminate the cash cow Turnpike Authority. Not everybody in upper level government jobs need “administrative assistants” and no, civil service does not mean your pay needs to be on par with the ridiculous growth of corporate pay and benefits since the 1960’s. But greed pervades the system. Makes you just wanna run right out and pay your taxes so the upper echelon can be supported for the rest of their lives while you work until you’re 80 just to survive. Start with laying off the daughter who slops at the taxpayer trough to the tune of over $60K a year (including benefits). Show a little common sense.
blob of silly telly tubby silliness and wasted commentary space.
Speaking of wasted space … (even though only one line).
In case there was any doubt…that was satire.
Anyone with tunnel vision or none at all is liable at some point to miss a useful path leading off the straight and narrow or will walk off a cliff. That’s problem enough for any individual, but worse still when that individual is tied in some to the general population as is our esteemed governor. What’s troubling to this old lifetime Mainer is his apparent belief that becoming the Mississippi of New England is a noble goal. Can’t we just try just a little more to move beyond being swamp Yankees whose masters know exactly what buttons to push to keep us under their thumb?
I find it amazing how BDN finds nasty, hateful, hurtful words vomited by Hugh to be commentary. This foolish rant using antisemitism as a means to attack a politician is very insulting. Please remove it.
Who?
Dear Mr. Lepage,
Here’s a hint: don’t renege on funding promised grants for improvements to downtown areas that were contracted, scheduled, and ready to begin; overmatched with private investments; and likely to generate more tax revenue than the state was investing.
July 11,2012
The Malicious Separationist, Representative Eric Cantor
And The Republicans in the 112th House of Representatives, The Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives, vote of 244-185, on Wednesday for the 33rd time passed a bill to repeal President Barack Obama’s overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system. Doesn’t this sound like a spoiled child who can’t take no for an answer! As Americans we deserve better, stop wasting our freaken time, Dammit. Please send these politicians a message in November… Don’t bring them back, elect the Democrat please. copywrite2012IDDURKIN
the only problem with this survey is no one listens well almost no one. The ones that can make a difference wont unless the people who take the survey agree with their policies. The ones that dont take the time to look at the survey and just want to collect a paycheck. The few that really care doesnt have enough power to break thru the good old boys club that controls the decisions.
Just what the ‘free market’ needs, a survey from people who work for the State?
Hey OBUMMA why wait for Sept to take a early vacation/retirement. Oh and thanks a pant load Obama for destroying our economy, allowing GSE’s to self- destruct, creating a
health and tax burden we cannot handle.
You say Obama destroyed our economy, when he took office 700,000 jobs a month were being lost, some 6 months after jobs were being created currently 4.2 million private sector jobs have been created. Taxes have never been so low as they have under Obama. The ACA is the best thing to happen in health care for the american public since medicare.
I have seen nothing better suggested from Republicans for any of the above.
Why not just let it all out. IT WAS GEORGE BUSH’s FAULT. AHHH, feel better already. THanks,
Where did I mention Geo Bush, I think you need your glasses cleaned, you seem to have Geo.
Bush on your mind. Try to pay attention.
Thank you!
listen lady skippy knows what you are thinking. Like a good liberal i know your intent just by the color of your skin and your social status of course.
and anyone who knows anything about gathering information knows that surveys are the least accurate way of gathering information as they are often manipulated by wording the question in such a way as to induce a prevalence towards a certain answer from the respondent. Did the Governor REALLY go to college? Because he’s clearly never has an advanced statistics class. DUH.
The only legitimate answer to the survey, is to Move your business out of Maine as quick as possible, to survive.
Uh! I’m all out a Ideas!
I put up an Open for Business Sign for ya, I tryed no new Taxes, Cutting Taxes for the Wealthy, putting kids to work, Freezeing Bonds, Cutting Spending for Welfare , Cutting Workers Compensation Benefits, Deregulating everything,
I even Insulted everyone one that I could and the State is Still going backwards!
Can’t you guys help ME out?
Pllllllease fill out my survey!
dial 911 SIr, Obama will help you with a liberal dash of socialism, cronyism and corruption.
Businesses are one part of the economy. There are other parts as well. I hope there’s a way for businesses to tell him that doing small-minded things is bad for the economic climate. I hope contractors who were counting on those municipal jobs respond.
I am waiting for my password to read the survey but I am guessing it is a very non-scientific poll with loaded questions. Is this a bunch of questions like: Do you think the taxes you pay are (a) too high, (b) just right , or (3) too low?
This is a silly way to determine what policy measures to advance. there are many polling devices already out there and there are numerous non-partisan surveys of business available. I expect nothing less than for this administration to post a loaded survey tool and then hype the responses as representing the organic thoughts of Maine business owners.
I have seen nothing in terms of economic development in this administration except silly gimmicks.
What the Maine Media is hiding from you is the new business development occuring….SHHHHSH….

Are these totally new, or have they moved from some other building. I’m not from Brunswick, but I could swear I recognize some of the names.
Kestrel Aircraft Co. closed up because the Lepage administration dropped the ball, they are gone. The Maine Technology Institute just lost it President to Lepages bullying, she was the best and brightest state employee he had, but she corrected him on one of his mis-speaks and was told to pack her bags. Curb your enthusiasm. Most of the other just moved there because its cheap space.
What about training for the unemployed Governor?
