FALMOUTH, Maine — A South Portland man is facing a felony charge in the wake of an accident that took the life of a Cumberland woman.

Matthew Blanchard, 24, is facing a charge of causing a fatal accident while his license was suspended or revoked, a Class B felony, according to Falmouth Police Chief Ed Tolan.

The Friday morning crash claimed the life of Casey Green, 22, who was a passenger in the vehicle.

The vehicle Blanchard was driving had left Route 100 and struck a tree. Green was pronounced dead at Maine Medical Center shortly after the crash.

Tolan said Blanchard’s license has been suspended several times.

Additional charges could be pending after toxicology tests are complete, while the vehicle is headed to the state crime lab on Wednesday.
