Pedestrian killed in Bangor hit-and-run, police looking for vehicle

By Nick McCrea, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Main Street in Bangor late Saturday night, and police are looking for information about the vehicle involved or its occupants.

The male victim’s identity has not yet been released.

The Bangor Police Department’s criminal investigation division is working the case, Bangor police Lt. Tom Reagan said Sunday afternoon. Reagan said he isn’t aware of any suspects or arrests in the case, but that police are following up on a number of tips.

“We’re getting a lot of calls,” Reagan said.

The accident happened just across the street from Saturday night’s Waterfront Concert featuring the Zac Brown Band. The show ended around 11:15 p.m., about 45 minutes after the vehicle struck the pedestrian.

Edwards said early Sunday that “there is no indication” that the victim was a patron at the concert.

Police are trying to find the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said. As of Sunday morning, he said police were acting on information that a small or midsize, white or light-colored sedan was traveling toward Bangor’s downtown on Main Street in the left-hand lane at the entrance to Shaw’s Supermarket when it struck the man around 10:30 p.m.

Police suspect that the vehicle may have received front-end damage to its hood and windshield.

Anyone who witnessed the accident and has information about the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run or its occupant or occupants should call Bangor police at 947-7382. Callers can remain anonymous by pressing 6 to use the department’s tip line.

Detective Larry Morrill is lead investigator on the case, according to Edwards.

Correction: An earlier version of this story contained an incorrect day for the accident. It occurred on Saturday night, not Monday.
