Taxes, federal spending, health care, marriage — these are the issues the U.S. Senate will continue to debate in coming years. Where do the candidates who seek to replace Sen. Olympia Snowe, who will retire in January, stand on these and other topics?
The BDN asked 10 questions about federal policy to the Republican and Democratic candidates on the June primary ballot for the U.S. Senate. View the answers ->

Dear BDN:
Are you being paid by the click for this story? If not, couldn’t you find a less cumbersome way to present? Click, click, click, back, click, back, click, back, ad nauseam.
And maybe a comment block for each one, at least.
The Republicans candidates are the exact kind of people who contribute to the problems that Snowe cited as her reasons for retiring.
Benjamin Pollard seems most like a moderate Republican (though he is a D), pre-Tea Party lunacy, of course.
Oh yea, it’s all the dirty Republicans fault! No Democrat has EVER contributed to gridlock in Washington! All Democrats are as clean as the wind-driven snow!
Not to mention the Democrat’s overinflated sense of superiority! Where would we ever be without that!
Calm down. I was specifically referring to the reasons that Snowe stated. That’s fact. Try reading and absorbing first before throwing a hissy-fit.
BDN: I am not a Dill supporter, but can’t you find a decent picture of her? It’s better than the last file photo…but not much.
Matt Dunlap almost got left out of his picture.
Well, Matt’s a self-effacing fellow. Probably the best of a bad lot (Democrats), though.
Biggest problem with Dunlap is he looks just like George Costanza.
I like Summers answers the most.
How about asking about the wars in the middle east that continue to cost millions of dollars a day…not to mention the thousands sof injuries, deaths, PSTD, etc, suffered by US soldiers….Estimated cost of treating them will be another 800-900 billion dollars…I don’t vote for Dems or Repubs but let’s not forget that when Clinton left office the US govt had a 300 billion dollar surplus….that Bush promptly gave to the rich in tax cuts….
And HALF of the troops are filing for disability. With an average life expectancy of another 50 years,we’ll either be bankrupt or leave the troops with no support.Or both-nice job GW.
Obama has totally failed the troops.
Indian Chief ‘Two Eagles’ was asked by a white US government official, “You have observed the white man for 90 years. You’ve seen his wars and his technological advances. You’ve seen progress, and the damage he’s done”
The chief nodded in agreement.
The official continued, “Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?”
The chief stared at the government official then replied, “When white man find land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did all the work, Medicine man free,. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex.”
Then the chief leaned back and smiled, “Only white man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that.”
Thanks, BDN for this article. I vote in every election and I pay close attention to what candidates advocate. I have my candidate selected and I’m ready to check off the name on my absentee ballot. As far as I’m concerned, any one who can vote shouldn’t let the rest of us make up your mind for you. Get out and vote.
I love how thew brilliant Poliquin declares he would repeal Obamacare … then proceeds to tell us how he would improve things … by instituting one of the very things Obamacare already includes.
Could he possibly make himself look any more uninformed?
Easy pick-Cynthia Dill.
Okay, now that we’ve seen the candidates for R & D, what about the I’s? What are their responses to these Q’s?
