PORTLAND, Maine — More than 5,000 people are expected to attend the annual convention of Maine Jehovah’s Witnesses on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The theme for the convention at the Cumberland County Civic Center is “Safeguard Your Heart,” according to a press release issued by the denomination’s national headquarters in New York City.

“Bible writers mention the heart nearly a thousand times, almost always in a figurative sense,” the press release said. “Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that it is of vital importance to understand what the heart represents because the Bible, at Proverbs 4:23, states that we need to safeguard it.”

Addresses each day will follow a spiritual theme using verses from Samuel, Matthew and 1 Chronicles.
