What, exactly, is Ron Paul up to?

The Texas congressman has, by all reasonable reckoning, lost his bid to be the Republican presidential nominee. Lost it big. In the GOP’s 35 primary and caucus votes, Paul has won as many as President Obama. Zero.

But now, Paul is using an unorthodox tactic to add more delegates to the national convention this summer. In Nevada, Maine, Massachusetts and elsewhere, his supporters have flooded the party’s snoozy state conventions — and then elected themselves to delegate slots.

That’s prompted a question now transfixing the GOP: What does Paul want?

Paul still has little shot at the nomination. But, with these numbers, the perennial outsider could gain enough leverage to demand a speaking slot, or changes to the party platform at the convention, if GOP bosses fear that Paul’s unhappy fans could disrupt their big moment.

“What are we supposed to do? Tell these people, ‘Look, the poor [Mitt] Romney campaign isn’t organized. They don’t know how to do this. We ask you that you please vote for Romney’?” said Doug Wead, a historian and a senior adviser to Paul’s campaign.

Wead’s answer was no. Instead, Wead said he hoped that Paul’s additional delegates would win him a formal delegate vote on his nomination and a speaking slot in the convention’s spotlight. That could help raise Paul’s profile, and the profile of the son — Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky. — he is grooming for bigger things.

“It’s already too late” to stop Paul’s strategy from working, Wead said. “We’re going to have a ton of people on the floor of the Republican national convention.”

In an interview with CNN on Wednesday, Paul said of his continued campaign: “It certainly isn’t for the reason of disrupting the convention. I’m in it for very precise reasons: to maximize our efforts to get as many delegates as we can. I’m still a candidate, and to promote something that is very, very important, that is a change in the direction for the Republican Party.”

By the numbers, the GOP race looks as finished as the Civil War.

Romney has an estimated 919 delegates, nearing the 1,144 he needs to win the nomination. Paul has just 100, less than ex-candidates Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich.

But Paul, unlike those two, is still fighting. Last weekend, for example, Paul’s fans were so successful at the Maine state convention that they added 21 delegates to his total. Romney — who had won Maine’s caucuses in February — got, at most, one.

Romney’s camp professes to be unworried.

“Make no mistake that the Tampa convention will nominate Mitt Romney, and it will be his convention,” Andrea Saul, a Romney campaign spokeswoman, said in an e-mail. She said Romney “has a lot of respect for Dr. Paul and the energy his supporters bring to the process.”

But privately, some Romney advisers say Paul’s convention tactics have become a distraction — diverting time and personnel at a time when Romney wants to shift his focus to Obama. In Maine, for instance, news reports said Romney sent one of his top lawyers to try to counter the Paul camp’s procedural tactics.

The idea behind Paul’s “delegate strategy” is to exploit the difference between what the GOP nominating process looks like and what it really is. What it looks like is a rolling series of miniature election days, with attack ads, flag-waving rallies and statewide votes.

It really is an eye-glazing, posterior-numbing series of meetings.

These usually happen after the votes: Local conventions elect delegates to state conventions. State conventions elect delegates to the national convention. Then, in Tampa in August, national delegates will cast the votes that choose the nominee.

In nine states, the first step determines the later ones: All delegates are “bound” to vote for whomever the voters chose. But in the other states, delegates are split between candidates. Or they are allowed to ignore the voters and choose for themselves.

For Paul, that means a battle lost at the polls can be refought in a hotel ballroom.

“They stepped off the field after the first inning. We stayed on the field,” said Carl Bunce, Paul’s campaign chairman in Nevada. In February, Romney won Nevada’s statewide caucuses by 30 points. But after that, Paul’s people started working the state’s series of conventions and got their people in 22 of the state’s 25 delegate slots.

That’s not as big a victory as it sounds: 14 of Nevada’s delegates will still be “bound” to vote for Romney on the convention’s first ballot.

But Bunce said there’s always a chance that Romney won’t win on the first ballot. And even if he does, Paul’s people will be able to clamor for policy priorities, such as stopping foreign wars, radically shrinking the government or auditing the Federal Reserve.

“It’s kind of movement versus moment. The moment here is the 2012 campaign. But we’re also trying to build a strong liberty movement” for the future, Bunce said.

“We’re not going to be let down by a moderate like Mitt Romney being our nominee.”

Paul’s people hope to win similar victories at conventions in Minnesota, Iowa, Louisiana and Washington.

As Paul’s numbers grow, so does his ability to disrupt the convention’s rituals of Republican unity: His supporters might be able to put Paul forward for the nomination or vote against the GOP’s official platform.

“The Paul folks don’t necessarily have to play the usual game. And by at least holding the threat of embarrassing [Romney] at the convention, they can hope to leverage something,” said Josh Putnam, a professor at Davidson College in North Carolina who studies the minutiae of delegate selection. “What that is, I have no earthly idea.”

But so far, Paul’s campaign has not threatened this kind of disruption. The reason, Paul’s advisers said, is that Paul’s long-term goal is not to fracture the GOP, but, over time, to remake it in his libertarian image.

This effort is already showing results. In Iowa — the iconic state that starts the presidential nominating process — the chairman of the state GOP is a former Paul campaign worker.

And despite the fact that Santorum won Iowa’s famous caucuses this year, Paul seems on track to get a large share of that state’s delegates. Of the 13 people set to be nominated for delegate positions at the state convention, 10 have expressed public support for Paul, according to the Des Moines Register.

So it would be counterproductive to embarrass other Republicans with a screaming-match convention that weakens the party’s nominee.

Seen in that light, what does Paul’s delegate strategy mean?

“The future. The sun also rises. I’ll put it that way. It means that congressman has a son who’s a U.S. senator. That’s what it means,” said Wead, Paul’s senior adviser.

Maybe that son could be a presidential candidate someday? “Now, I won’t say that,” Wead said. “But that’s a good point.”

  1. Ron Paul for  Pres.  The most honest candidate for the last 100 years to run for office. sad but true. Thank you Ron Paul.

    1. Maybe Ron Paul has ESP he predicted the crisis before they were crisis while the MSM and the other politicians said they didn’t see them coming.  I am voting for Ron Paul

      1. Ron Paul does have ESP.  It’s called Austrian Economics!!!  Go Ron Paul!!!

        1.  Austrian economics has some merits, however their theory of the business cycle is ridiculous.

          1.  No, it doesn’t.  All available historical evidence refutes the Austrian theory of the business cycle, and the theory itself cannot explain the existence of economic booms/busts prior to the advent of fractional reserve banking/central banking in the early 1900s.  Further, Austrian business cycle theory requires us to assume that informed market participants always act irrationally in the presence of low short-term interest rates, which can be empirically proven to be false.

  2. Sigh…..after being accused of sneaking, stealing, backroom dealing, hijacking, etc. now Dr. Paul is being accused of wanting to embarrass Romney and start a ruckus at the national convention.  These accusations have been flying despite the fact Ron Paul has been scrupulously honest and is simply following the rules set by the RNC.  Not his fault the media snickered when he told them it was all about the delegates.  Now do you get it?
And while you are wiping the egg off your face, how about reporting the truth for a change – Dr. Paul has a plan to restore America and has been tirelessly advocating freedom, liberty, peace and prosperity for years.  If you must accuse him of having an “agenda” that would be it.

    1. Paul has been playing by the rules. It’s Romney’s guys that got caught. Some of them GOP state leaders had to resign in the first couple of states for getting caught (Iowa, Nevada) and were replaced by Paul supporters. Others like Maine got caught but didn’t resign, so the caucus goers got wind of it and gave him a taste of blowback. And you remember Romney’s guys’ tricks in Alaska trying to keep Paul’s supporters from participating, and in Missouri sending the police to break up an organized caucus meeting in the parking lot literally calling it a riot (it’s not, it’s on tape), because Romney’s man there was a sore loser and closed down the site when he saw Paul had the majority of support. And in Oregon where they shut down the building and said because the newly elected leader was a Paul supporter they had to leave. It’s been like this all over. People at the caucuses see what’s happening and they choose Dr. Paul. Romney’s only advantage is his deep pockets to out-spend on advertising and connections to the press. That’s well documented. But don’t you know Obama has the same connections and money, just more of it? So it will evaporate if Romney gets nominated and the favor will go to Obama. Paul already has experience challenging it and doing well considering the tricks they’ve pulled. Even locally I’ve had press publishing outlandish articles with my name simply because I showed up at a rally with something unique to attract people. The reporter didn’t ever appear or talk with me, so the article had to be hearsay, yet it was written as if he knew what I stood for. He missed every point. I asked to be allowed to rebut, but was denied. They can be pretty nasty.

      1. In a way, I wish the Dems had a Ron Paul. I am a Dem, but if an insurgent like Paul ever showed up among the D establishment, he would be treated the same way.

Can’t vote R, because of their being a front for extreme right wing Christians who have a medieval mindset.

Have to hold my nose and vote D most of the time, unless Paul make it to the ballot somehow. Don’t like all of the Paul programs, but I also know that much of what he advocates will be blocked, the way the R establishment is doing it to him now. Still, Paul would be a wake up call, non-Tea, that we’re mad as H and want real change.

        1. I want nothing more than for the Democrats to “Ron Paul” their establishment!  Kucinich, perhaps?  I will give money to Kucinich if you guys “Ron Paul” your party for him.  Be inspired!  The PEOPLE have the power they just have to grab it.

          1. Not that easy. The democrat party has “Super delegates” which makes it harder for Kucinich to overtake the corrupt democratic establishment.

          2. I truly hope those Dems that are fed up or just feel betrayed will support Dr. Paul. If you don’t know what he stands for, don’t get it second-hand. Listen to a couple of speeches on youtube or interviews. It doesn’t matter which speech, he’s been saying the same thing for 30 years and now people are finally getting it. You wonder if he can sort the economy? Watch any interview where he leaves Bernanke sweating and stuttering. Again, it doesn’t matter which one. Someone like Dr. Paul (like Kucinich) would be the best thing that ever happened to the Democratic party and US politics in general. It is my belief that if 100% of Democratic voters understood how deeply Marxism is entrenched from the top down in their party, 75% would register Independent in a heartbeat.

        2.  I’m thankful there are others who feel the same way.  The day the Republicans stop catering to the evangelical right will be the day I can bring myself to vote for them.  I do like some of Ron Paul’s ideology, however I suspect that the only reason he can make many of the wild claims he makes is that he knows he has no chance of being elected.  However, I find the idea of a return to the gold standard and the elimination of the federal reserve to be dangerous in some ways.

          1. @ Joshua – Don’t confuse Ron Paul with the GOP establishment. Don’t believe the slurs from the status quo that have become so debased that most of them couldn’t explain the Constitution to you. Every RP supporter knows exactly what the Constitution and the Bill of Rights stand for and can explain the FED’s operation, fractional reserve banking and how to get us out of this mess. Paul isn’t saying drop the treasury note directly but add another currency based on silver and gold and let the people do business in which ever currency they prefer. I hope you can see where that will go. You want to buy my car? I’ll take it in gold please. He does not intend to touch SS or medicare for people that depend on it but will get the money he needs initially by ending these illegal wars and by bringing home the troops. Reopen US army bases. Guard our own borders. Free choice for all. Not by Govt. decree. Less Federal Govt. involvement and more free market will lift economy, drop inflation and create more real jobs. (Not at a cost of $245,000per as now) People call him crazy. What part of the Constitution do they think is crazy? Cagey, not crazy and you never underestimate a cagey old man as the GOP is trying to come to terms with right now. RON PAUL. Register to vote in the CA Primary before May 20th. Which ever your God is if you have one (your choice) may they Bless America! ;)

        3. Of course I don’t know what state you are in, but you might be able to change to R or independent just long enough to vote for only one race in your primary and then vote for whomever you want in November.  Party registration only matters in the primary.  I would hope you would pick Paul over Obama but if not, at least you would contribute to improving your choices.  You don’t like the Republican mindset but if you have to hold your nose to vote D, what’s the difference?

      2. correction, the St Charles MO caucus where there were a couple of RP supporters were arrested was not ruined by the Romney team.  It was ruined by the Santorum team.  Well, actually it was really more just a couple of Santorum supporters who happened to be in key positions where they could pull off the cheating they did.   The Romney crowd was equally shafted.  I dont even think the Romney crowd was organized enough to have pulled off the sort of hostile takeover that was done at that caucus.   In fact, the Romney group was planning to join up with the Paul group to elect our chairman, which is why I think the Santorum group got spooked.   I know this first hand.  I was at the caucus in question (and it’s re-do
a month later).  And now I am a delegate to my district/state
        conventions.

In Missouri, “Establishment” republicans support Santorum, (and now, they very grudgingly support Romney, because he is the “Anyone but Ron Paul” candidate).

This war isn’t between Romney and Paul.  Its between Paul and the GOP “Establishment”.  Romney is just a pawn in their game.  And they’ll sacrifice him if it becomes convenient.

        1. Yes, Mr. Larsen and thank you for the clarification.  I often wonder if he is a willing pawn (opportunist, albeit a naive one) or a clueless one.

    2. Paul has been preaching his delegate strategy since day one, and now it’s called ‘mischief’ and ‘hi-jinx.’ The mitt-people could have done the same thing, except for wait….. They don’t have any REAL support like Ron Paul does.

  3. Let me get this straight.Mitt has  bought off the media..Spent over 200 million on his campaign compared to Ron Paul’s 13 million, Has the support of Wall Street big banks and all the corrupt politicians.. And can’t even beat out a few pot smoking hippies at a delegate convention? That’s gotta be pretty damn embarassing for the Romney camp..he he he

    1. Excellent point. Compare cost per delegate between candidates in Tampa and nominate  the man who runs the most efficient campaign.  That’s who we need in Washington.

    2. Ron Paul has brought together a coalition the likes of which may have never been seen!  Varying in age: Young, “Experienced”; ethnic background; socioeconomic status…AND displaced Democrats!  The old-line GOP has made a grave error rejecting what could be the lifeblood of what they ‘consider Their Party’.  And to RESTORE that Party to what it once represented is hard work, and Corporate Anything cannot bear to think it won’t be business as usual!  Hang on, America!  We’re about to elect a Man Who is Not for Sale!

        1.  Don’t forget, it was “pot smoking hippies” who extricated us from the Vietnam fiasco!

    3.  And Ron Paul’s campaign is debt free.

Imagine how he would run the country! At this point RON PAUL is our only hope. We are on the edge of a cliff and Honest Ron has been behind us for 30+ years asking us to turn around.

I hope we listen to him before we run out of cliff.

    4. Hold on, other posters say, “forget Paul’s antics and let the voters get down to business.”

What voters would that be? Straw poll voters that like Mitt’s hair? Women that think they have a shot as wife #2 because he’s Mormon? He has no Independents. He’s flatly hated by disgruntled Dems. The more anyone else learns about Mitt, the less they like him but that’s just hearsay.

Let’s check his track record.. He lost to the guy who lost to Obama. So far so good. He and his son are presently being investigated for start-up investing 10 million in a Ponzi scheme. Okay, he picked up some Wall St. votes there. The GOP has repeatedly broken Rule 11 by giving his campaign financial support while other candidates are still in the race which gives a presumptive nod from Old Guard Hacks. Somebody must like him. But best of all, if you don’t like his platform, wait five minutes.

The Voters can get down to business when they have the right man and he hasn’t been chosen yet but I can tell you where they’re putting the “X”: Ron Paul 2012

    5. I know you’re joking, but I can’t stand to let the humorless ones be fooled.  If you ever see a crowd of informed, savvy RP delegates, you’ll know they aren’t pot smoking hippies.

  4. Supporters of Mitt Romney were committing fraud in Maine. They were handing out fake Ron Paul slates-delegate lists. One went as far as showing up in a Ron Paul t-shirt. They were caught in the act and it’s on video….look it up.

  5. Just imagine, if Ron Paul can do this to Romney with limited funds, no debt, with establishment animosity aimed at him, all without attacking Romney … imagine what he can do to Obama. It’s no surprise that Dr. Paul’s toughest fight is within the GOP itself. After Romney, Obama’d be cake.

    1. I agree. The toughest fight for Ron Paul is winning this nomination. If he does, beating Obama will be as easy as it was for Obama to beat McCain in 2008.

I also don’t get why the party and Fox News/CNN actually think Romney has a chance against Obama. In 2008 he lost to McCain, who then lost to Obama by a big margin. So how could Romney possible win now, especially when he’s probably the most hated candidate ever according to statistics?

      1. McCain was the designated loser in 2008 and Romney is the designated loser in 2012.  Obama was the chosen winner in 2008 and is again in 2012,  He will end his full two terms in 2017.

2016 is therefore when the neo-cons get to take over from the neo-libs to carry on the same agenda, to bring in their world government.

The only thing standing between the globalists and their dreams of world domination is Ron Paul and his Revolution.  It is a classic David and Goliath or a replay of the original American Revolution when a rag tag band of colonists took on the greatest Empire in the world at that time. Obama has often been likened to George W. Bush in his pursuit of the imperial agenda.  That would therefore make him George III after Bush41 and Bush43.  Another touch of synchronicity?

The U.S. Constitution is the only legal document in the world that restrains the State.  Notwithstanding its neglect by the rulers for the past one hundred years and more it is still the supreme law of the land.  To save the day for themselves and the world Americans must get behind Dr. Paul and restore their Constitution and their Republic.

      2. They don’t think he has a chance.  They promote him precisely because he has no chance.  And, if you think Fox is different from CNN then ask yourself why they treat Ron the same way.  Ask any conservative whether the media is biased in favor of Obama and you will hear a rant without parallel.  So why then, are they letting them choose their candidate for them.  I wouldn’t let one sports team pick their opponents players for them.  It’s the same thing.

  6. Ron Paul supporters are following the rules.

The media is constantly hiding the rules and the real debate.

How about Ron Paul’s position to eliminate the income tax? What a simple and uncorruptible bailout that pays everyone’s mortgage in the housing crisis.    The income tax could have been eliminated for something like 7 years for the amount that they (Treasure, Congress, Federal Reserve, Executive), have spent on bailouts that we *know of. *

The bottom line is that Mitt Romney’s support is weak. Rick Santorum and Gingrich are now out, with both praising Ron Paul (but, wink/wink, endorsing Mitt Romney).

Ron Paul delegates from elections in January are finally up to the state conventions. Now finally, the media still doesn’t understand what is going on, even after we’ve been telling them all this time.

    Are they fools or knaves?

    1. Romney probably agreed to pay off some of Santorum’s and Gingrich’s debt in exchange for the endorsement, assuming the Santorum and Gingrich delegates would vote for Romney.  Paul’s campaign has no debt, so Paul will not need to make a deal with Romney and he may pick up the Santorum and Gingrich delegates as well..

  7. When will you report what Romney people have been doing at the conventions? Namely, posing as Paul supporters and passing out fake delegate slates to dilute the votes.  http://www.downeast.com//the-tipping-point/2012/may/tricks-maine-convention

How about the fact that Romney and the RNC are in violation of their own rule, #11, which states:
    (a)
The Republican National Committee shall not, without the prior written and filed approval of all members of the Republican National Committee from the state involved, contribute money or in-kind aid to any candidate for any public or party office except the nominee of the Republican Party or a candidate who is unopposed in the Republican primary after the filing deadline for that office.

(b)No person nominated in violation of this rule shall be recognized by the Republican National Committee as the nominee of the Republican Party from that state.__________________________________________________________

      Romney’s top donor: Goldman Sachs
      Paul’s top donor: THE MILITARY

      SUPPORT OUR TROOPS
      RON PAUL 2012

      1. Considering the origins of this republic, shouldn’t the prospect of a president whose seminal “top donor” support is the professional military raise even a small quiver of doubt?

        1.  Of course not! When we ousted King George in the 18th century, the guys who did the fighting went home, and didn’t keep us at war in perpetuity. Nowadays, we’re fighting a “revolution” (which I’d personally prefer to call a “nonvolution” or “unvolution,”) Because Dr. Paul’s agenda is to restore the Constitution that was written specifically to protect the republic from kings and other miscellaneous tyrants.

  8. As for myself and ALL of my friends, we are voting principal, not party.
That means we are ALL behind the statesman Ron Paul.
Both parties violate their own rules in attempts to thwart the will of the people.
RNC BREAKS ITS OWN RULE #11
RNC Chairman:  “It is a complete merger,” he said. “The RNC putting all of its
resources behind Mitt Romney to be the next president of the United
    States.”

Ron Paul is IN THE RACE!
Why the media is silent on this?
Just another indication of how far corruption goes.

Voting Conscience – No One But Paul 2012

        1.  “Canonization?”

Absolutely NOT! Article I of the Bill of Rights guarantees us Freedom From Religion!

God’s Will is Free Will, Free Will is God’s Will, it’s just that simple.

  9. I do not see why anyone would willingly waste their vote on either of the two muppets, Obama OR Romney.

I mean, is it not clear by now that either one would eagerly continue to throw all 318 million Americans under the bus for the entertainment of those 1%ers who have bought them?

  10. I love how they mention ‘Oh look Ron Paul’s ‘operatives’ are ‘infiltrating’ the GOP and ruining things!, He’s upsetting multiple state conventions and getting delegates, by the way that count is; Romney: 1,141.9 – Paul: -62?’  Love how thats how they portray it.
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” – Gandhi

  11. I mean, if you REALLY want to talk about breaking the rules, what about the fake slates submitted by Romney operatives? What about Romney and Priebus colluding to give support to the ‘presumptive nominee’ in direct contravention of RNC rules? Seriously? Breaking the rules? Seriously?!?!?!?

    1. And don’t forget the “clerical error” in Nevada that was thrown out as an excuse “we miscounted the total” after over 300 fake delegates for Romney were evicted.

    2.  I agree. I suggest everyone Google what Louis is talking about and verify for yourself.

Romney is desperate and he’s cheating!

Vote integrity in 2012 – Honest Ron

    3. The only people breaking rules are the Romney-people and old-GOPers, and they’ve been doing it every and any way they can throughout the entire race.

      1. Romney and the RNC have many more dirty tricks up there sleeve to stop Ron Paul from gaining the delegates he needs to win the nomination.  That is where the real story is.  Why can’t reporters report the real news?  Just how far down and dirty will the Republican establishment and their puppet nominee go, to prevent Ron Paul from ending their gravy train?   The chronicles of dirty tricks. That would be one for the History Books!

  12. “Romney has an estimated 919 delegates, nearing the 1,144 he needs to win
the nomination. Paul has just 100, less than ex-candidates Rick
    Santorum and Newt Gingrich.”

The Key word in that sentence is “estimated”, meaning not actual.  Or if you are being blunt, a flat out lie.

Mitt Romney has no where near 919 delegates.  Not-even-close.

    1. Discounting the supposedly bound delegates (which Reality Check just verified are not actually bound), Romney sits at 295 to Paul’s 108, and the Paul campaign is already aware of several states where they have enough support going to the state conventions to score big.

    2. Most of Romney delegates are Ron Paul Supporters and will vote for Ron Paul or not vote at all.

If Romney is lucky and smart, he should start thinking about a possible vice-presidency.
This is as close has he might get from the presidency and would be the best compromise
for the GOP and worst nightmare for Obama.

      1. Romney as VP would be a very bad idea, because that would leave only one bullet between Romney and the Presidency. Just saying.

  13. Establishment GOP, listen up.  This is how it goes.  You can stop asking us (Ron Paul supporters) to rally behind the “presumptive” nominee to help defeat Barack Obama.  It’s not going to happen.  It is YOU who needs to rally behind US to defeat Barack Obama.  There will be no compromise.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTDYHAyWR7A

If Barack Obama wins, it will be the Romney supporters fault and nobody else.

    1. AND Corporate GOP must take their rightful share of the blame…  No WAY are they going to allow the Culture of Corruption in DC AND in the Party to just ‘slip’ right out of their hands without a fight…

And Corporate GOP is going to lose, while Our Country WINS, and it will be a day that America REJOICES because we will indeed have begun Our Reclamation and Our RESORATION!  Come on…you can do it!  Join us, GOP…we bring you Legions of Awakened, Informed, Committed Voters…

  14. If Ron Paul has more delegates on the convention floor then he can win the same way he is winning at the state level.the delegates can run the show at the convention and the elitist are scared enough to cheat just like they have done in Maine and Nevada…how can Mitt win without the Ron Paul supporters ? he can’t.

    1. The billionaire and many millionaire GOP elites would MUCH PREFER Obama to be reelected, than see Ron Paul become our next POTUS. That’s a fact.

  15. Why is it every single article about this process is wrong? The preference polls taken MEAN NOTHING AT ALL DURING THE PROCESS. Paul didn’t “lose the Iowa caucus”, HE WON IT. The delegates are the ONLY THING THAT MATTERS. Just because you “thought” that you voted six months ago doesn’t mean squat. It’s a shame that nobody in the press seems to understand this, and reports on it like it’s some sort of underhanded “procedural” tactic. IT IS THE ONLY TACTIC, BECAUSE IT IS HOW YOU WIN.

    1.  Every single article about this process is wrong because they are intentionally trying to mislead people — that’s what they do. Repeat a lie often enough and you can convince the masses that its true.

Thanks to the internet, we’re finally starting to wake up to the truth. LIBERTY 2012!

      1. Hence the reason for SOPA and now CISPA. They’re attempting to censor and silence the American people, and relegate us to our corrupt main stream news.

  16. Hmm no mention of the funny business that  let Mitt “win” in the first place. Or that Charlie Webster stated  when he wasn’t going to count  the votes from Washington county the truth, that the caucuses were just a straw poll anyway and had no bearing on who got delegates. Always has been that way. System has been kept that way so the party  could manipulate the results and  ensure the  chosen guy came out being the frontrunner  we just have to get behind. Now that  people show up and choose differently its supposedly wrong.
As everyone is well aware there is now a campaign gaining momentum to unseat Chairman Priebus for his violation of Rule 11 ([PDF](http://www.gop.com/images/legal/2008_RULES_Adopted.pdf) page 20) by [endorsing and supporting a candidate while a primary is still on.](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYfHzqd6myk) under section (a).

    (a)
    The Republican National Committee shall
not, without the prior written and filed approval of allmembers of the Republican National Committee fromthe state involved, contribute money or in-kind aid toany candidate for any public or party office except thenominee of the Republican Party or a candidate who isunopposed in the Republican primary after the filingdeadline for that office. But what everyone seems to be overlooking and is the most important part of the law is under part (b).(b)… No person nominated in violation ofthis rule shall be recognized by the Republican NationalCommittee as the nominee of the Republican Partyfrom that state.Meaning any state where Romney and the RNC have worked together, without the written and filed prior approval of ALL GOP State Committee members of that state, IS INVALID. He cannot be recognized by the RNC as the nominee of those states. And then there’s rule 15b http://www.redstate.com/morton_c_blackwell/2012/03/19/delegates/

  17. How dare anyone run against the Great and powerful Romulus Maximus! Oh come now, Paul has every right to run to win, no matter how many think he hasn’t a chance (and oh how he does).

Remember a little story called David and Goliath? Don’t underestimate David and succumb to the group-think of the crowd. Nough said.

Paul support is much greater than the media lets on and you will start to see state after state go to Paul in the end. The establishment is in denial and doing their best to pretend this isn’t anything they should worry about. Paul stands for real cuts and the Founder’s vision of America.

  18. There is no such thing as a BOUND delegate.  The RNC stated that very clearly in 2008.

  19. There are a number of compelling reasons why MITT ROMNEY might want to drop his presidential campaign.
First, Ron Paul is a much more popular candidate among all groups except for old party mainstream Republicans. Dr. Paul actually can beat Obama in a general election whereas Romney does not have a chance. This is evidenced in many polls.
Second, Ron Paul is in better shape physically, always getting his daily exercise. It should be noted this commitment to exercise contributes to Dr. Paul’s superior mental clarity as well.
Third, Ron Paul’s dedicated supporters have secured many more delegates than represented by the Associated Press, so there is no way for Romney to secure the nomination without Ron Paul’s delegates.
Fourth, Ron Paul is in this to win. And since he has never compromised his principles in over thirty years of public service, he could never support another platform that did not adhere to constitutional guidelines for governance.
Fifth, Ron Paul supporters and delegates will never compromise their principles in order to protect the Republican Party. They have reached a understanding of the dialectic imposed by voting for the “lesser of two evils”. They will put country before political party, just like many Democrats that are tired of this rigged game.
Sixth, Ron Paul’s message of Liberty is gaining popularity and enthusiastic momentum this country has not seen since the Colonial Revolution. It can no longer be contained and minimized by mainstream media pundits.
Seventh, It is just plain embarrassing for the Romney campaign, when Dr. Paul can draw a crowd of 8500 in Berkley, of all places, and he can only draw a few hundred in a conservative district. People are less enthusiastic about Romney than they were about McCain. People are not willing to allow the GOP establishment and our corporate media to tell us who we are voting for again.
You should know, we’re having a Paul Party in Tampa come November, that will be of great historical significance. You should come and celebrate the message of Liberty. Just think, reporters might have the freedom to report the news without a bias, hidden agenda.

  20. Wow,  Mr. Fahrenthold, step back away from the crack pipe and sit down. This shill  just did his master’s bidding by lying to everyone who just read this non-sense that he was trying to feed you.  Ron Paul is in this race to win. What do they want him to do? They want him to quit because Dr. Paul is the only one that can beat Obama. If you don’t vote for Ron Paul, you will be putting Obama in the White House for four more years.

I don’t know if our Republic can take four more years of either Obama or Romney. These banksters own the presstitutes like david fahrenthold and he knows that if he doesn’t write this story like he is told, he will not have a job next week. Think about this, how could we be almost fifteen Trillion dollars in debt if these presstitutes were telling you the truth. We wouldn’t be and that is why when you see some lacky like mr. fahrenthold try to mislead you, it should anger you more than any thing else.

We need an honest media and you won’t find it in the articles of these big media giants but rather on sites like “the daily Paul, Infowars, Drudge, Veterans Today, Dr. Paul Craig Roberts Home Page, Prison Planet.com. These are just a few that you will find the truth as to what is really going on but little presstitues like davie boy are only going to lie to you.

Vote for the only man who will really try to save this Republic we all call America. Vote for Ron Paul Please.

    1.  The emperor (mainstream media) wears no clothes!!!

Ron Paul 2012 – Peace, Prosperity, and LIBERTY!

  21. To the author of this piece:  Ron Paul is the winner of every state in which he wins the majority of delegates, which is shaping up to be quite a lot of them.  You are unnecessarily ignorant of the election process.  “Supporters” can’t just show up to conventions and vote.  Your choice of words are very misleading.  Delegates are elected and they are the ones who attend the conventions to vote for the delegation to represent them at the next level.  What we are witnessing is the contest exactly according to the rules.  Realize that the popular vote is about the equivalent of a beauty contest.  This is the system, Paul didn’t make the rules.  For you to imply that the Paul campaign is doing something tricky or underhanded is baseless.  Simply reflect upon the differences between a republic and a democracy, understand that ours is a republic and I’m sure that you can appreciate why that is.  Our founders were genii.  Freedom must endure the tyranny of the majority.

  22. The REAL delegate count as of   11 May 2012 .

    Mitt Romney has 562 delegates

    Ron Paul has 204 delegates

866 delegates are either unallocated or unbound (due to Gingrich and Santorum dropping out)

  23. As a recently-elected Nevada national delegate, I have been witness to Romney’s supporters’ fraudulent behavior at the state convention. I will be studying the Rules thoroughly & if there is one iota of legality in being able to vote Ron Paul on the first ballot, I can assure you that the Nevada delegation will be solidly for Ron Paul on the 1st vote.  We are SICK of Romney’s tricks, cheating, and unethical behavior. The press better wake up and realize this is being directed right from the source – ROMNEY! If the media does not start covering these CRIMES, there will be repurcussions.

  24. This is a cleverly-disguised HIT piece on the Paul campaign.

SHAME on you Mr. Fahrenthold, and Shame on the Bangor Daily News for letting this trash be published on their site… It doesn’t suprise me that a Washington Post writer would want to make Paul look like he’s not running to win, (WaPo is an assett of the Obomba administration, officially)  but the Bangor news is the banner rag in a state now run by Libertarians.

…Sounds to me like some people there are in for a shortened career.

  25. Rule 38, for the Ron Paul Win in 2012!  All Stealth Ron Paulers- no need to wait for second ballot- abstain or vote for Paul on the first!  Get there early.  Make secure travel arrangements.  Avoid the batons and tasers of the Romney guards at the front door.  (see 2008 youtubes of the RNC convention)

  26.  This article by David A. Fahrenthold is a COMPLETELY full of @#$%!!!! What shameful journalism. Mitt Romney has NOWHERE NEAR the 1144 delegates needed. And Ron Paul has now officially won at least 11 states. I am so sick of this propaganda shoved in our faces. Wake up David! You are getting all of your numbers from the MSM and they are in the business of manufacturing opinion, not reporting news. Romney’s true delegate count is around 600 and Paul’s is around 400 and rising weekly. Numerous states that were awarded to Romney by the media he has now officially and permanently LOST to Paul.

So my advice to the jackass who wrote this article is simple: DO SERIOUS RESEARCH, OR FIND A NEW PROFESSION. What Fox, ABC, MSNBC, and CNN report are usually lies and when they report the truth, they do so at an odd hour, with disclaimers, and run through it as quickly as possible before someone sees it. Ron Paul supports are pissed off at the chronic lying and opinion-making by this corporately-controlled corrupt media. We have alternative press, and the more you lie, the more we work to expose you and the truth.

Ron Paul is still in this, and it is possible Romney will be begging Paul for a speaking position this August in Tampa.

      1. For you, perhaps herbs instead of the Prozac, and you might want to stop making your decaf with fluoridated water. Geddy is aware and not at all overstimulated considering what it is he seemingly understands and is willing to accept.

The Media isn’t in the ‘News’ business ; they make their money from the Public Relations business. It’s always been that way.  David A. Fahrenthold and The Washington Post are just selling what the PR  client wants.

The media perpetuates the ‘left/right paradigm’ because it is in the best interest of those who own media and those who do business with it to do so. Romeny and Obama are of the same mold yet the media want you to think you have a choice for some kind of ‘change’ by voting for one of the two and those who bring money to the media want you to think there is a difference.

They would have you believe our Nobel Peace Prize winning President is a Dove and a Socialist when in fact he is a War Mongering Corporatist.

Obama’s Affordable Heath Care Act isn’t for the most part a socialized program at all but the people have been told as such and many believe what they have been told without understanding the difference between the Free-Market and Corporatism.  Instead it is  a corporatist arraingment whereby we are forced to do business with politically connected corporations instead of the bulk of insurance costs being funded publically, yet Romeny supporters inexplicably think it’s a  socialist program, which is neither Free-Market nor Corporatist  because it is the media told them it is ;Socialist’ because doing so supports the cognitive dissonance of ‘the left/right paradigm’. It looks like a socialist benifit, but it is funded privately yet not in the free-market – thus it is Corporatist in the vein of Benito Mussolini and not Karl Marx.

Romney is also a Corporatist and they will, either of them,  continue to borrow us into bankruptcy while benefiting the croney interests that support them through both programs of  welfare and warfare while posturing themselves as being somehow opposed to one of those two, yet still allowing for borrowing for spending for what they ‘supposedly’ oppose anyway.   All the while the media will perpetuate this false ‘left/right paradigm’ in hopes of convincing the people that there is a difference between the American political Left and Right when it is those who really control things, control BOTH of what is perceived as the Left and the Right.

Over the past 30 years as we have seen an exponential increase in the number of TV channels we can watch,  at the same time there has been an inverse exponential DECREASE in the number of ownership groups controlling the programing itself, while it is these same ownership groups have diversified into Radio, Magazines, BillBoards, Newspapers, Movie Studios, and now even the Blogosphere.

These very same conglomerates are in most instances owned by large financial lending institutions, most of which have crony arrangments with the government in other areas of business, to say nothing of the business of lending itself, which we pay for to finance purchases from their ventures including such things as weapons manufacturing, privatized infrastructure, social benifit programs etc., which the ownership groups that own these lending institutions themselves also in some instances are owned  by yet other entities which have the direct abliltiy to monetize credit for the creation of our currency itself in the capacity of being member banks of the Federal Reserve System.

There is nothing covert about this and in fact is a matter of public record if it is one chooses to find his information anywhere else but from the Public Relations Firms passing themselves off as ‘Unbiased Journalism’ yet instead owned by the banksters who would prefer such information not being brought to an awareness of the people by an honest President with a bully pulpit.

  27. Ron Paul actually won the Virgin islands primary, so he has won more caucuses/primaries than Obama.  The author needs to do a little more research.

  28. Romney flip-flops, his people cheat. You think Romney really cares about you, me or Charlie Cheat – he’s got his yacht, resort properties and banker friends to worry about!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anWsU93fFsk

Sorry, but I don’t agree with Mitt on keeping NDAA indefinite detention, TSA, Patriot Act, bail-outs, 7 tax increases, etc. He’s too much like Obama. Not to mention Obam-ney Care.

    I’m a true conservative.

  29. I love the smell of panicking establishment propagandists in the morning!
Are those “projected delegate” numbers, backed by Karl Rove electronic vote-counting machine results obtained behind closed doors not holding up for R-Money?
    Aww…
(grin) In your FACE, one world govt sock-puppets.
    Liberty 2012

  30. Jefferson and Madison the founders of the original Republican Party were libertarians, i.e. followers of the natural law philosophy of John Locke, and opposed to the Hobbesian centralist ideas of the Federalists led by Alexander Hamilton.

The same battle is being fought today with the Ron Paul Revolution in the vanguard of the Jeffersonian Republicans seeking to unseat the centralist Trotskyist neo-cons who infiltrated and took over the Republican Party in the late 1980’s with the assistance of the Moral Majority Christians. The latter were deceived by their blind devotion to the State of Israel.  The neo-cons used this devotion to manipulate them into supporting their imperialist agenda.

This is why Ron Paul opposes the present foreign policy of both parties that is at its core an internationalist communist dream of world domination. He is well aware of the provenance of the warmongers and has described it in detail on the floor of the Congress.

As Dr. Paul has said the ideals of liberty are relatively young and the American Republic was the very first national expression of these ideals. The traditional impulse of rulers of any description has always tended towards tyranny and it is the fruit of the latter tree that we now see coming to maturity in America.

This is the issue at hand and this is why the Ron Paul Revolution are so determined to succeed. They are the few who know that the tree of liberty must be watered from time to time with the blood of patriots, whether figuratively or literally

  31. The idea that Ron Paul supporters are breaking the rules is the opposite of the truth. They are sticking with the rules they were given and are making sure that they have enough delegates to challenge Romney for the nomination.

There have been three States so far in which a Romney operative has said that if Ron Paul receives the most delegates or even the entire slate then they would not seat them in Tampa. That is their true colours. We know that Romney was the chosen nominee from the beginning. Michael Steele the former RNC chairman said as much. That has always been the way candidates are picked…by the elites. The primaries are just a way to cover up the appointment process. They pour money into advertising in the corporate media they control, they manipulate the polls and if necessary they adjust the votes to meet the expectations they have created with their controlled media.

That’s the way it works and if Americans were honest they would admit that this is true. They always expect the candidate with the most money to win and they always come from a certain minority of privileged insiders who have been groomed for their position. Even Obama fits this picture if you do a little research.

This year the Ron Paul campaign doesn’t have the most money but they have the most active, informed and passionate supporters. They are trying to save the America they love. They do not want it to become a socialist tyranny. [Either Obama or Romney will continue the march to that destination.] They have been working for the past four or five years to establish themselves in every State. They go door to door and person to person to make up for the lack of media coverage. They have always been the underdogs.

They put their lives on the line because they know the truth about their country. They know it has been hijacked by powerful men who have no loyalty to America to her people. These men control both political parties and they promote a global government using the American military and the wealth of the nation to prosecute their agenda for world domination. They are the worst combination of corporate fascist socialists. They control the Federal Reserve System and the banking and corporate cartels that run the country.

Ron Paul Republicans are engaged in a counter revolution to take back their Party and their country. True Americans who believe in the vision of their founding fathers especially Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, the founders of the original Republican Party, will join this movement and work to restore their Republic.

  32. Romney and his acolytes keep saying he is the nominee believing no doubt in positive thinking. It is like the rooster who believes his crowing causes the sun to rise. However this is a very unique election and the RNC/Romney coalition have misjudged the situation horribly as they were meant to do.

They are now desperately trying to play catch up on their controlled media after ignoring and marginalising the real winner for months. They are trying to regain control of the conversation with their assertions of Romney’s invincibility but their efforts are risible.

But this election is not about Romney or even Ron Paul. It is about a small group of powerful men who have controlled the affairs of nations for the past one hundred years causing wars and depressions without batting an eyelid. Their time has ended and their machinations will no longer avail them. Ron Paul happens to be the man chosen to lead the people at this historic moment.

When he is President the actions he will take will begin to set the world free from the domination of this cabal. To do this he needs the support of the People and this support is now growing. By November it will be a crescendo of unimaginable proportions.

  33. I’m tried of Paul’s antics.  He needs to pack it in and let the voters get down to the business of ousting Barack Obama.  Had he not created the reputation of being a wing nut he might have been seen as something approaching credible.  Instead, he’s just sucking up the oxygen.

    1. I don’t think he is a “wing nut”, that label is usually applied to Romney’s backers who have gone over from the Santorum camp. I think Libertarian, and all that implies, is a better description.

I understand that establishment Republicans would be dismissive and embarrassed by the “antics” of the Paul movement. I also understand how desparate they are to install their man in the White House. But if they just want the Paul people to disappear and fall into line, that amounts to a whole lot of mis-reading of the electorate. It has been tweedle dee/tweedle dum for so long, look where it’s gotten us.

    2. Do you realize that what you believe is pure rubbish. Only Ron Paul stands any kind of chance against Obama, and that’s only ever been the case. By voting for Romney, you ARE VOTING FOR OBAMA.

    3. Romney can’t beat Obama. Not a chance. The polls including Democrats and Independents show Paul beats Obama while Romeny does not. This, considering most of the people being polled have been led to believe they should discount Paul  indicates that, should they actually come to the conclusion that they can dismiss how the media has been mis-leading  them, the polls in favor of Paul would even be higher. Romeny can’t even beat Obama in these current polls and this is with the people being told by the establisment media that Romney is their ONLY chance of ousting Obama.

Swing votes are ALWAYS needed or else General Elections are not won. Ron Paul can bring swing votes because he will bring almost all of the Independents and a huge percentage of  anti-war Democrats who would support Paul yet would never support Romeny, whom even the Democrats disgruntled with Obama don’t see as a better alternative to what we now have.

Romney can’t possibly win with establishment Republicans alone and in fact is only as popular with Republicans as he is because the consumers of mass media  have been led to believe he is the only choice but the truth is, throughout the entire contest,  Romney never really gained that much support among Republicans themselves and only gained the support he has now, and is losing to Paul, when it was the rest of the field bowed out.

Romney on the ticket loses to Obama by a Landslide. Paul on the ticket gets each and every Republican vote in November without the kind of disention Romney will face, plus the Independent Vote and a huge percentage of Democrats, and in that scenario, Paul wins the White House by a Landslide.

    4. What voters would that be? Straw poll voters that like Mitt’s hair? Women that think they have a shot as wife #2 because he’s Mormon? He has no Independents. He’s flatly hated by disgruntled Dems. The more anyone else learns about Mitt, the less they like him. Let’s check his track record.. He lost to the guy who lost to Obama. So far so good. He and his son are presently being investigated for investing 10 million in a Ponzi scheme. Okay, he picked up some Wall St. votes there. The GOP has repeatedly broken Rule 11 by giving his campaign financial support while other candidates are still in the race. But best of all, if you don’t like his platform, wait five minutes. The Voters can get down to business when they have the right man and he hasn’t been chosen yet.

  34. Reagan used the same strategy in 1979.  Did someone forget to tell Mitt ROmnsy that this is the way the system works?  I actually hope that he pulls it off.  Ron Paul is the only Republican candidate with enough strength among independents to beat Barack Obama in the general election.  The latest polls indicate that Dr. Paul does better against Obama than Romnsy , and only Dr. Paul has the grassroots and youth vote.

  35. I’m tired of the MSM spinning the facts. Paul started this “tactic” in 2008. So this time, we knew the media would black him out. We knew the media would slander Paul and brainwash the masses. We knew the GOP establishment would be using ALL their tricks ie, outright fraud. We knew then, that our only hope was to beat them at their own game. We actually ARE the majority (of people who actually understand politics)… Paul is drawing crowds of 4-9 thousand voters everywhere he goes now. This isn’t a “gadfly”, and he isn’t doing this for speaking time.

  36. The RNC is already making it impossible to vote for Mitt. First the Rule 11 violations. Then the possible felony charges against Mitt. Then the gay-hating and bullying. Add that to the fact that no one really liked him in the first place and where are you? Beating Obama? I don’t think so.

Remember to visit http://tinyurl.com/RNCRule11 and protest the violations of RNC rule by Priebus and the Romney campaign. If you don’t, Obama certainly will – once the nomination is over and it too late to change things.

    1. The Headline is the REAL truth in this article.
The body is dis-info, spin and propaganda electioneering.
An attempt to use smokescreen electronic black box voting to claim delegate count,
when the REAL delegate count is being won by Ron Paul and I add, legitimately and by the rules.
The reader needs to get into the comment section to get the actual facts with links to sources such as the OTHER story about RNC abandoning their own RULE #11. http://tinyurl.com/RNCRule11
I am glad to see the headline, “It may be too late to stop Ron Paul’s strategy”
Very attractive, and its obvious to the reader that it is a bait and switch.
I am also glad that you are reading this comment. :)

PS, What does Ron Paul and his supporters really want? A fair and honest election process that protects the rights of all Americans to ACTUALLY elect the President of their choice. A tall order, but the correct way. Despite all the corruption and media bias the turn-out for Ron Paul is real and the media will eventually have to admit the OBVIOUS.

  37.  What does Paul want?….What do you think  Ron Paul and his followers want, to be  the next President of the United State to restore freedom  to the American people
that we are losing under Obama,  to bring our troops home while saving our country from more debt, to stop nation building , to protect our boarders at home  our forefathers who bravely signed their names to the Decoration of Independence  , thereby signing their own death warrants.
Think about that. They were willing to die for limited federal government, independence, freedom and liberty…They fought for our freedom and the liberties that we hold so dear, They didn’t  fight and die for freedom so that our government could provide its subjects with housing, food, transportation and health care….Instead of heeding the warnings of our forefathers, we have embraced big government. Independent?..How can we just allow this to happen, we have a man
an honest man that is willing to taking this nation back and fix’s it and  all we can do is ridicule  him and speak of him like he was a joke and these issue that we are facing today as a joke..
No people wake up!!, because if we don’t make the right  choice now and elect Ron Paul we will never  have that choice again we will have to except what ever they give us and it’s not going to be good….The revolution is on!!…Ron Paul 2012!!

    1.  Q: What does Ron Paul and his supporters want.
A: First we need a fair and honest election process. Instead we have corruption in BOTH parties and the their Wag the Dog Media.
Despite that, I agree with LOuise!!
The revolution is on!!…Ron Paul 2012!!

  38. Just want to post my 100% full support of Ron Paul.

He has been hugely influential in my political/economic learning.

His 30 years of dedicated service in Congress is amazing in and of itself. However it becomes an inspiration when you learn things about Congressman Ron Paul that give you insight into his character.  Let me give a few examples:

    – Paul will not participate in the lucrative Congressional Pension Plan. He believes it is wrong to make the taxpayer fund his retirement.
    – Paul gives back a portion of his congressional budget every year (he has given big chunks like $50-$100,000 some years).  This shows he has the dedication and understanding of how to manage money.  It makes me trust him with the financial responsibility of the presidency.

-Paul has had the courage not only to stand up to his own party when they are wrong but sometimes has been the lone “No” vote on the entire floor of congress when all of congress is voting for something unconstitutional (no matter how popular the bill might be). That is truly brave to withstand the pressures of D.C. Lobby Groups which leads me to a point about the man’s integrity.

    – Jack Abramoff, the most notorious D.C. Lobbyist, has stated “Ron Paul is a rarity and can’t be bought”.   Abramoff further stated that he would never even try to go to Ron Paul’s office because he knew that he had no chance of “buying off” Ron Paul. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoKZGY_6Ftk&feature=player_embedded So many people in this country want real change.  They want a person in the Oval Office that has the integrity to stand up for what is right – even when it may not be popular.  They want someone who will get our nation out of all the foreign wars.  They want a president that understands the war on drugs is silly and should be ended.  They want a president that understands the principles of private property and individual rights/liberty.  They want a president that understands gay marriage is just a private contract and the state has no business writing/governing private contracts (only the enforcement of said contracts in a court of law if need be). Democrats are getting tired of having to overlook Obama’s constant flip flops of his own.  They are continually being asked to overlook the failures and broken promises.  They feel let down. Republicans are tired of electing RINO’s that turn around and outspend Democrats. Americans in general are tired of the liars in D.C. that make promises only to turn around and break them once they are absorbed into the D.C. machine. Ron Paul has proven for 30 years he can’t be bought.  He will uphold the US Constitution.  He will not get us involved in unjust wars.   He will work tirelessly to restore confidence in the US Dollar through sound currency models.   He will work with congress to get a budget that will allow our nation to climb out of debt quickly and restore economic certainty in this uncertain climate.  He will work to reform Social Security and the arcane/complex Tax Code. Okay I better step down off my soapbox. RON PAUL 2012

  39. Hmmm…. Could it be in actuality that the electronic black box voting system  represents the establishment vote?
And the caucus delegate vote represents the “Popular Vote”. Put flesh and blood on this.
Can the outcome of electronic vote be created out of thin air in the same manner as the Federal Reserve prints wealth & power out of thin air?

I will be voting absentee PAPER ballot for No One But PAUL. There will be a PAPER TRAIL.

  40. Ron Pauls more electable.

Ron Paul wins with the swing voters, has a much more mobilized support base and has less resistance with his opposition in the GOP.

Romney does not do as well with the swing voters and has stiff resistance with his
opposition in the GOP base but strong support from the GOP leadership.

If you really want the GOP to win, we need to convert the soft elements of the GOP
base and the party leadership to unite behind Ron Paul.  He’s more electable.

  41. wtf? is journalism dead?
” could gain enough leverage to demand a speaking slot, or changes to the party platform”
Why do you people keep repeating this tired mantra? It had to come from somewhere. It is repeated in every article about Ron Paul’s delegates. Yet it holds no substance nor is it remotely close to being true. Ron Paul speaks in front of tens of thousands weekly. He has no need to go in front of a bunch of Keynesians who will just ignore him.

Why did you repeat this untruth? Are you lazy and you just lifted it from some other article or were you told to put it in there from someone higher up?

Which is it, are you lazy or are you a puppet?

  42. Another trash Ron Paul he has no chance article.  Sad sad sad,  I’m curios do msm pundits have a soul or is it already committed to hell? You all have lost all credibility I now laugh at you every time I turn on the news. Good thing the internet is still free, for a minute anyways. Ron Paul 2012!!!

  43. The reasons the people back a candidate are not only based on their intellect rather how they are being manipulated by the information around them. In a way do not be an empty vessel for others to speak through you. Investigate everything from multiple sources. By meaning multiple sources, from different think tanks.
    Ron Paul 2012!

  44. Mitt Romney actually only has 342 actual delegates, and Ron Paul has 109. The rest of the delegates still have to be decided at state conventions or their states have not had primaries or caucuses yet. Go to thereal2012delegatecount.com to know how  the race is really going.

Really Andrea?  Then why are you scared sh*tless of us then?  Why are you fighting us at the congressional and state conventions, resorting to outright fraud?  I am going to save your quote and when Dr. Paul takes the nomination in August I am going to spread it around the world and flood your email box with it.

  46. Goebbels would be proud of this article.

    Vote Ron Paul 2012
    Win A Free Country

p.s. This is going to be so embarrassing for David.

  47. So, if the Dodgers score 5 runs and the Yankees score 2 runs, the Dodgers are being sneaky because they are trying to win the game? Are supporters of candidates not suppose to become delegates? Ron Paul supporters should show up, vote, and go home and Romney supporters show up, vote, and stay to become delegates? Anything besides that is declared “disruptive’?

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. You GOP elite are total wastes. Thats why your time is numbered…

  48. ITS OVER for the GOP and the establishment. NO BOUND delegates, “free agents” as they are called by the RNC lawyer who admitted so. These treasonous traitors and cheats are going down with the ship, Dr Paul is changing this country back to a nation of freedom and liberty, NOT tyranny, NOT a police state and NOT the status quo. Turn off the BS media and seek the truth. The establishment and the NWO are going to try anything to retain power so we must remain focused and strong, be able to see thru the lies and propaganda and realize this is a HUGE historic time period for this republic. Its US or THEM, choose wisely.

  49. Junk piece…

“What, EXACTLY, is Ron Paul up to?” UGH.. Ron Paul “grooming” Rand Paul? An “agenda”? Give me a break.. the media deliberately uses language that conjures images of some kind of evil maniacal super villain when describing a 76-year-old grandfather & OBGYN doc. Shame on WaPo and other biased corp. media scum.

  50. Attn. Editors – “Romney now has an estimated 919 delegates” !? Congratulations! That is the highest WRONG guess I’ve seen so far. Who does your estimating? The guy out back drinking Thunderbird from a brown bag? That hole you’re digging deeper for yourselves is what your credibility is going to drop into if you don’t get someone on the job soon who knows what they’re talking about. Romney doesn’t get to keep those worthless straw poll “guess” delegates when Dr. Paul wins hard delegates every weekend. Many of Romney delegates are Ron Paul Supporters. You can start setting the type now. Here’s your headline: “The guy that lost to McCain that lost to Obarry, lost again.”

  51. What, exactly, is Ron Paul up to?”
    http://xtrabiggg.blogspot.com/
How about winning the majority- if not ALL- of the delegates in at least nine states! The author of this article is as clueless about the nominating process as my dog Shady (Sorry, Shadester!). He is following the same rules that Romney has to follow, unfortunately, Romney’s grassroots support is less grassroots than it is Crabgrass, as he can’t even muster more than a few hundred at a time to a rally- let alone the thousands Ron Paul regularly turns out for both rallies AND County & State Conventions, where the REAL delegate selection process occurs! One piece of advice for the WAPO’s Mr. Farhrentold (and the rest of the Corporate Presstitute corps), quit citing these fanciful and wholly made-up ‘delegate counts’. Most are merely cribbed from ridiculously unreliable sources like the AP, and use ‘apportionment’ based on the non-binding ‘beauty-contest’ votes in the primaries.  This is akin to basing your 401k investments on fairy dust futures and Bullpuckey Stock holdings. While the Corporate-Conga-Line Press keeps repeating the worn-out and totally debuinked ‘storyline’ about Ron Paul, his under-counted and under-reported supporters are working their tails off WITHIN the system, and using OPEN and LEGAL methods to gain not only delegates, but control of the Local, State (and ultimately the NATIONAL) Republican Party! While the shills at CNNPMSNBCFOXCBSABC and all the Fish-Wrap old media rags keep blowing Obaomney’s twin horns, the REAL story is being told loudly and repeatedly in the local newspapers, TV and Radio reports, as well as being spread far and wide on the internet- far beyond the reach of the Corporate-Controlled National Media. The winds of change are blowing in America, and those who merely think it’s a passing summer breeze may shortly find they and their supposed positions of power have been blown out the door by a combination of Grass Roots Activism, unyielding devotion to Liberty and the Rule of Law, and a passion to cleanse our corrupt Political system of the accumulated cronyism and nepotism that has brought our once-great country to it’s economic and social knees.Keep thinking that ‘there’s nothing to all this Ron Paul Stuff’.  I’m sure that’s what King George the Third said about all those ‘farmers with pitchforks’ about 250 years ago…

  52. Ron Paul and his supporters are the only ones playing by the rules!

The mainstream media’s ignoring, ridicule and outright
smearing of Ron Paul while bolstering
    other candidates illustrates nicely the
two great modern schemes operating in American politics facilitated by the
mainstream media – those being: the phony “two party paradigm” and the creation
of the phony GOP “tea party”. First, the concept of a modern “tea party” came
on board with the Ron Paul supporters back in 2007 during the campaign. Actual
pounds of tea were to be dropped by a hovering blimp into Boston Harbor on the
historic day of the original Boston tea party against British tyranny as a
gesture of defiance to the status quo (lost of civil liberties; unending illegal
wars; nation building; destruction of our currency; torture and extraordinary
rendition; abuse of civil liberties under the bogus Patriot Act etc.). Party
affiliation, national origin, race etc. wasn’t important – all were welcomed –
only a love of liberty and a willingness to fight for it and hence among those
veterans the movement is rarely regarded as “tea party” but instead the
“liberty” or “freedom” movement and it is definitely not GOP; Gingrich or
    Santorum!!

     In 2008 when the
“dynamic duo” – McCain and his side kick – Palin got their bloodied grinded
behinds handed back to them by Obama. This is exactly what the mainstream media
had orchestrated for the previous year – and the rank and file GOP voters
predictably bought it – they bought media served “stooge of the day” McCain and
side kick hook line and sinker! I invite you to research progressive AP
reporter Liz Soldoti’s coverage of McCain 2008 and see how she systematically
built him up “straight talk express” to become the GOP front runner – the MSM
knowing he was hopeless and would get creamed by Obama!

Immediately after the election in an attempt to do damage
control the RNC/GOP and right leaning media embraced “tea party” to co-opt the
movement for the progressive neo-cons – enter the right media ala FOX and the
likes of social controlling neo-con personalities such as Rush Limbaugh; Glenn
Beck and Sean Hannity. The left media, MSNBC etc. and their social controlling
components: Keith Obermann; Chris Mathews and Rachel Maddow in an effort to maintain
and reinforce the phony two party paradigm immediately hyped them “racists” and
“secessionists” nut jobs stressing the “tea party” as against newly elected
President Obama primarily because he was black!

Hence: the term “tea party” as currently hyped in the media
is a creation of the mainstream media and simply equates to good old American
progressive “neo-con”! The concept of “tea party” they propagate is a primary
tool currently used to continue the “two party paradigm”.  Anyone uninformed enough to buy in is being
seriously played and hasn’t taken the effort to analyze the actual facts – just
taking the media’s word for it like a good little boy or girl and maintain the
    “status quo”.

Allow me to go a little Taoist on you – the “real” tea party
you hear about is not the “REAL” tea party!

Strange as it may seem, there is actually little
socio-economic and political ideological difference between – lets say, MSNBC
and FOX – only the illusion of one! Both the (so – called) right and left
factions of American mainstream media are all globalists – wanting to maintain
and expand American empire with all their corporate owners having direct BOD
    relationships with the giants in the military industrial complex such as: GE;
    Texaco; Chevron; Boeing; Lockheed Martin; Citigroup; Rockwell Automation;
Chase, WorldCom, and JP Morgan; Halliburton, etc. and thereby financially
benefit directly from the ongoing nation building and entrenched foreign
    occupations.

So the mainstream media as a whole created the current “GOP
tea party” as is hyped today, to attempt to contain and control the actual
legitimate non-partisan “liberty movement” (being the actual REAL “tea party”
started by Ron Paul supporters in 2007) – it being a threat to the status quo
and use the phony “two party paradigm” to help them do it. This is the illusion
of two different parties counter balancing one another – please don’t say you
can’t remember recently this spring when republican Senator McCain and democrat
Senator Kerry went arm in arm bellowing for illegal war with Libya? Do you not find it is
    strange that Obama never changed Bush/Cheney policies regarding: torture;
bailouts; WARS; Patriot Act and lost of civil liberties and abuse of American
citizenry. Exactly – both parties want huge intrusive central authority – its
just one side prefers to balloon the size of government with aggressive warfare
and less social welfare and vice-versa. Americans are spoon fed the “two party
paradigm” as a controlling device through the lame-stream media – that’s why
globalist neo-cons like Gingrich and Perry
are being hyped as “tea party” and that is why they are desperately
trying to co-opt many of Ron Paul’s life-long political positions on things,
such as: auditing the Federal Reserve.

For years have you scratched your head wondering – why are
our representatives in DC doing this? Are they trying to destroy America?
Unfortunately in a twisted sense – they are. For the globalist in both parties
    it’s not about gaining a secure and prosperous American Republic;
upholding liberty maintaining the supreme law of the land – the U.S.
Constitution. It is totally about maintaining an economic empire for a select
group of oligarchs using the American military – our blood and treasure!  It’s about redistributing American wealth and
technology and building “emerging” economies in China
and India etc while de-industrializing America! It’s about destroying our
education system with federal control so that our young people test dismally
against students in the rest of the world in science and math! It’s about
defending borders overseas while leaving our southern border in the USA
open allowing for abuses of American citizens. We could go on and on about the
mistreatment Americans suffer at the hands of a rogue government! However, you
and I both know that throughout the process of the dismantling of America,
the mainstream media tells you “its okay – remember back in 2008 when they
spoon-fed us “don’t worry either top tier candidate, Obama or McCain will get
us on track”!  Now the media is trying to
force-feed us their GOP choice (Romney) AGAIN!

Yeah right! We know how that worked out!

The media has worked overtime to convince voters that the
candidates like: Romney; Gingrich and Santorum are significantly different than
President Obama – this is definitely pure BS – they are all big government
progressives the same as Obama! All of the 2012 candidates (in both parties)
polling significant numbers nationally are deep in the pocket of international
banking and/or the military industrial complex EXCEPT RON PAUL! This corrupt
system needs an on-going puppet in the White House to keep bailing out
criminals and keep this bogus war on terror going and ramped up bombing and
saber rattling all awhile the media keeping the American people placated with
the “two party paradigm” allowing for global elites to steal American national
wealth and sovereignty! Ron Paul is the only candidate significantly different
than Obama and therefore the ONLY ONE capable of beating him on issues that the
majority of Americans heavily support (like ending: illegal wars; torture and
    illegal detention; abolishing the Patriot Act as well as the infamous NDAA;
ending the Federal Reserve; stopping the failed “war on drugs and the abuses of
IRS and TSA as well as getting us out of treaty organizations that rob us of
our sovereignty such as: NATO and NAFTA etc.)

The “establishment” is in a real bind – the media’s “ignore”
phase for the “Ron Paul problem” hasn’t worked and the “smear / discredit”
phase not much better…leaving them the last option – the  “distort and minimize” phase . These types of
tactics are standard procedure in any third world banana republic to
marginalize legitimate opposition to the regime and status quo. They have NO
place in a free representative Republic!

So, fellow Americans if by now you haven’t acknowledged that
Obama is a corporate puppet you are in serious denial or part of the
subversion! If you want things to continue under the rule of the global
“banksters’ and “tanksters” – maintain the status quo and allowing tyranny to
grow under the phony “two party paradigm” – vote for the spoon- fed media’s
“top tier”: Obama; Romney, but if you want things to truly change and
have the assurance that you will have the right to be heard and not silenced
then begin to restore America liberty now and support Ron Paul! He can’t be
bought – and the establishment knows it! They must use every means available to
attempt to marginalize him – hence the blackout, ridicule and smear and now the
distortion and minimizing of legitimate victories! Check your states
regulations for rules of primary voting and do whatever it takes so that you
can cast your primary vote for Ron Paul.

WE WON’T GET FOOLED AGAIN! Ron Paul 2012!!!

    1. Does the establishment think that the NAZI Playbook will work here and now in America?

“Think of the press as a great keyboard
on which the government can play.”
      ―Joseph Goebbels

“The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless
one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly – it must confine
itself to a few points and repeat them over and over.”
      ―Joseph Goebbels

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will
eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such
time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic
and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally
important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for
the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the
truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
      – Joseph Goebbels

  53. If you want to know the real delegate count go to this web site…..what the media is not telling you is that delegates are selected at the state level: http://www.thereal2012delegatecount.com/
Currently: Romney-312; Paul-110; Santorum-144; Gingrich-24; Delegates to be determined by state convention-758; Not held Primary or Caucus-638.

We see how well Ron Paul is doing at the state convetions which could change the whole outcome of the Republican Nomination.

Support Ron Paul for President in 2012.  Vote in your Primary or Caucus for Ron Paul.  Become a Ron Paul delegate in your state.

  54. Well, as any athlete would know, it’s never over till it’s over. There is still hope for a decent man to to clinch the nomination.

  55. How fun it is, seeing the liberal, Rockefeller/Bush Republican Establishment squirm and whine when confronted with stalwart conservative opposition.

  56. They can rig the electronic voting but they can`t rig the paper ballots they use to vote for the delegates with. The paper ballots are also counted in public. The electronic votes are not counted in public.

  57. “The Texas congressman has, by all reasonable reckoning, lost his bid to be the Republican presidential nominee. Lost it big. In the GOP’s 35 primary and caucus votes, Paul has won as many as President Obama. Zero.”

I follow the state caucuses and primaries closely and every one of them had complaints of fraud and bias against Ron Paul! Ron Paul lost all these “races” like he lost Maine – Through fraud and deception! Like Joe Stalin said “It matters nothing who people vote for. What matters is WHO counts the votes.”

This so-called journalistic column exemplifies the institutional bias against a true patriot who happens to be the only honest man among the list of Republican candidates from day one.

Millions of people have woken up to the scam of politics that has worked for decades to fool people into believing our votes are really counted and the person who get’s the most votes wins. “It matters nothing who people vote for. What matters is WHO counts the votes.”

How many of you readers have bothered to look at the recent campaign rallys of Dr Paul and Willard Romney? Ron Paul is drawing multi thousands of people to hear him speak at his rallys. Willard Romney is struggling to get a couple of hundred to come to his. Paul fills large stadiums while Romney can barely fill a confrence room!

The convention in Tampa will demonstrate the true will of We the People when the Republican Establishment learns the real numbers of people who love and support a man who can only be described as a Breath of Fresh Air! WE ARE AWAKE and propaganda hit pieces like this article will not put us back to sleep! We are aware of the Rule 11 violations, and, we are aware of Rule 38, which states that no delegate can be bound by state rules to vote for any candidate.

My wife and I were delegates to the Maine State Republican Convention and we saw first hand the dirty tricks played out by the Romney campaign to steal delegates from Ron Paul.

BOTH parties have been successfully laboring for a hundred years to steal our LIBERTY and give us socialism. Now their schemes are almost complete but one man stands in their way and he is RON PAUL, PATRIOT! If you want to live in a “People’s Paradise” like the former Soviet Union vote for Romney or Obama. But if you choose to live in a nation that protects personal Liberty and personal responsibility, vote for Ron Paul!

  58. I checked the date and it’s current.  So, why is the author so behind on the delegate counts?  Paul has already won those states listed as strong possibilities.  Farenthold  must be getting his numbers from the same lame sources as the rest of the media.
