ARUNDEL, Maine — The Maine attorney general’s office has brought a murder charge against a father who told police he squeezed his infant son’s head and threw him into a chair, causing injuries that led to his death.

Spokeswoman Brenda Kielty says four charges were filed Wednesday against 23-year-old Gordon Collins-Faunce: murder, elevated aggravated assault, aggravated assault and assault.

Collins-Faunce originally faced an aggravated assault charge after the 2 1/2-month-old was injured Saturday at his Arundel home. The boy died early Tuesday.

A police affidavit says Collins-Faunce acknowledged being angry because the baby was crying and holding the boy suspended by his head before throwing him into a chair. He told police that the force he used was “eight or nine” on a scale of one to 10.
