Nine seek position as RSU 13 superintendent

ROCKLAND, Maine — The superintendent search committee for RSU 13 is reviewing nine applicants for its top administrative post.

The search committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday and Friday, said RSU 13 board Chairman Greg Hamlin, who also serves on the search panel.

“I consider us to be very lucky,” Hamlin said of receiving nine applications.

He said there are approximately 16 school districts in Maine that have superintendent vacancies. Hamlin said the district is not approaching the search as how to compete with the other districts but instead is looking at who best fits the needs of RSU 13.

RSU 13 held two public forums and conducted an online survey to find out what the public wants in a new superintendent. The top qualities sought, Hamlin said, were leadership, school and community involvement, personnel management, and ability to achieve school improvement.

The original schedule called for interviewing candidates in mid-April and having someone in place by July. The search committee will discuss the interview schedule at its meetings this week.

The district has been seeking a replacement for Judy Lucarelli since she resigned in December.
