DEXTER, Maine — A local man was arrested Thursday night after choking his girlfriend and threatening to hit her with a hammer, said Dexter police Sgt. Kevin Wintle.
Cody Berry, 21, of Dexter was charged with domestic violence assault and violating conditions of release.
Dexter police Officer Daniel Cox received a complaint of a family fight at a Free Street home at 10:20 p.m. Thursday. Wintle said the victim brought a friend home, and Berry, the victim’s live-in boyfriend, was upset and made negative comments. The victim went into the bedroom, locked the door and lay down.
“[Berry] kicked in the door and took her cellphone,” said Wintle, who is also the acting police chief. “When she tried to get it back, the victim states that he choked her.”
He also grabbed a hammer off the counter and threatened her with it, said Wintle. There was a child in the home at the time.
Berry then got a ride to a residence on Winchester Avenue in Corinna, where he was arrested by Maine State Police.
He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor, where he remained Friday morning.
Another wannabe tough guy, smack the woman around. That’ll teach her. If he wanted to be so tough why didn’t he try and smack the Trooper around who went to arrest him?
They always want to bully the weaker one. Let’s see you actually take on someone who could give you a real fight.
To the woman involved: do the right thing and dump him now. It’s obvious this isn’t going to work out.
There are plenty of fish in the sea. Don’t continue to be a punching bag. Get a restraining order and buy or borrow a handgun. Take a firearms class and apply for a concealed carry permit.
They won’t keep him in jail forever…

Really? It’s the towns fault? I am always amazed how others continue to blame anyone or anything on a persons poor choice. Dexter is a beautiful town with a ton of features and benefits to offer lets see…..99.9% of the towns population.
Get a grip. Where do you live that is crime free, HEAVEN?
Man oh Man would I like to meet this lad. I do not understand the basic fundamental do not hit a woman, do not act inappropriately towards a woman, under no circumstance threaten a woman. Nothing boils my blood quicker than reading something like this. Real winner here, what is going to happen when someone really makes him mad? Say the kid brings home someone he does not like someday, is he going to choke them too? I say dear God.

Another Loser!! He needs a long time in jail… Maybe with some “hard labor” to pay for his stay in jail… But, I’m sure we all know the outcome!

I just got done telling you people because of the multi-memeber panel that investigated the last major domestic altercation that you can take the guns away and then you will have to take the hammers , ice picks , screw drivers, axes, shovels , fists and every other possible weapon away! Or you could get to the root of the problem and try to make the occurrences less than they have been! Because we all know the cave man syndrome will never go away completely ! Test him for the warrior gene !
