BRISTOL, Maine — A 21-year-old Damariscotta man died Thursday after his pickup truck hit several trees in Bristol.

Michael McIain was driving on Route 130 just south of the area known as Bristol Mills shortly before 8 p.m. when he lost control of his truck, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. McIain died at the scene.

Investigators from the sheriff’s office have determined that McIain was negotiating a curve when he lost control of his 2006 Ford F250 pickup truck. The truck left the road and struck several trees in front of a home, according to the sheriff’s department.

Mclain’s vehicle rolled over at least once and Mclain was ejected from the vehicle.

The investigation in the cause of the crash is ongoing. Mclain was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and speed was likely a factor, the sheriff’s department said Friday. A toxicology test will also be obtained as is required in all fatal motor vehicle crashes in order to determine whether alcohol was a factor.

This crash was reconstructed by Maine State Police. Bristol Fire and Rescue along with the Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service also responded and assisted at the scene.
