OLD TOWN, Maine — A Bangor man who is barred by court order from being with a woman he was arrested for assaulting last month attempted to hide Wednesday night when police showed up at her Dartmouth Street residence, Old Town police Sgt. Michael Hashey said.

Tyler Thomas, 18, was standing shirtless in a window around 5:40 p.m. when Hashey drove up in his cruiser.

“He tried to hide and turned off all the lights,” the sergeant said.

Repeated knocks on the door went unanswered, and police ended up breaking a window pane in the front door to gain access to the residence, Hashey said.

“Officer Ryan Fitch found him hiding in a box in the closet with clothes on top of him,” the sergeant said.

Thomas was arrested for violating his bail conditions and taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor. He was out on bail because “he was arrested on the 12th of January for domestic violence assault at that residence,” the sergeant said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
