LEBANON, Maine — A man is behind bars after police say he assaulted another man at a tavern early Friday.

Gilbert Perez, 27, of Moody allegedly beat another man unconscious at Trains Tavern in Lebanon, then fled the scene, according to a news release from York County Major William King.

When deputies arrived at the tavern they located the victim and witnesses provided a description of Perez’ vehicle.

Deputy Travis Jones discovered the vehicle about an hour and a half later, King said, and witnesses identified Perez as the assailant.

Perez was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He is currently being held at the York County Jail on $10,000 cash bail.

The victim was taken to Goodall Hospital in Sanford and later to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment.
