Dysart’s to open convenience store in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Maine — Motorists might see lower fuel costs when Dysart’s opens a convenience store and several gasoline and diesel fuel pumps late next spring at what is now the Lincoln Car Wash and ice cream shop on West Broadway, town officials said Friday.

The planning board voted 5-0 during a meeting earlier this week to issue a new business permit to Dysart’s, Code Enforcement Officer Dan Whittier said.

Known primarily for its truck stop and restaurant on Cold Brook Road in Bangor, Dysart’s also has seven Dysart’s Travel Stops in Hampden, Holden, Newburgh, Old Town, Orrington, Orono and Pittsfield, according to its website, dysarts.com. Lincoln’s looks to be No. 8.

Dysart’s officials indicated that they would keep the car wash at 199 West Broadway operational and that the ice cream shop operated by the Gillmor family would be closed as part of the transaction, Whittier said — possibly for relocation to Gillmor’s Restaurant at 236 West Broadway.

Dysart’s officials gave no precise opening date but said work paving the large open gravel parking lot adjacent to the ice cream shop, and re-engineering to make the lot compatible with truck traffic, would begin in the spring, Whittier said.

The establishment is expected to create at least a dozen full- or part-time jobs.

Lincoln Economic Development Supervisor Ruth Birtz said the business could make life a bit easier for area motorists.

“I see more competitive gas prices coming with this,” Birtz said Friday. “It’s been my experience that Dysart’s has been a bit cheaper with its gas prices than other places around the state.”

A construction company has begun work adding a large front room to Gillmor’s Restaurant in front of what is now the main dining area. Workers there said the new room would contain another bar and more restaurant seating.

Lincoln has had a Tim Hortons and Cold Stone Creamery ice cream store since that chain opened a storefront on West Broadway in November 2010.
