Penobscot County Jail inmate in serious condition after suicide attempt

BANGOR, Maine — A Penobscot County Jail inmate was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Friday after an apparent suicide attempt.

The inmate, whose name was being withheld, reportedly was found hanging in his cell shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Penobscot County Sheriff Glenn Ross, who was at Eastern Maine Medical Center on Friday evening, said he was still gathering information about the incident.

Ross said the injuries were serious and that he was in the process of contacting the inmate’s family members.
