BREWER, Maine — A local motorist racked up three drug charges Monday night after police pulled him over on South Main Street because one of his headlights was out.
Matthew Karnas, 18, was charged with drug possession and paraphernalia possession but he was not arrested, Brewer police Cpl. Nelson Feero said Tuesday night, citing a police report.
The incident that led to the charges began about 11:20 p.m. when police reportedly pulled Karnas over on South Main Street.
During the traffic stop, Brewer police Sgt. Levi Sewall and Officer Michael Wilson noted a plastic pill bottle with no label was in plain sight and upon checking it, found prescription muscle relaxers for which Karnas had no prescription.
The bottle also contained a small quantity of hashish, Feero said. Karnas was charged with paraphernalia possession after officers found a marijuana pipe in the vehicle.
Feero said Karnas is scheduled to appear at the Penobscot Judicial Center in November.
