HUDSON, Maine — A 19-year-old man died early Sunday morning after he was ejected from a pickup truck on Route 43.

Jacob Perkins of Westbrook and Bradford was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the scene on Route 43, also known as West Old Town Road, at 4:10 a.m., Sgt. Roy Peary of the sheriff’s office said Sunday. The accident occurred between Rogers Market and Meadow Brook Lane.

A preliminary investigation suggested that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, he said.

Perkins was traveling in a Chevy pickup truck from Hudson toward Old Town when he apparently missed a turn, according to Peary. The truck rolled in a field and the victim was ejected into the woods.

More than 14 hours after the accident, it was unclear if the 19-year-old was driving or was a passenger in the vehicle.

The accident still is under investigation, Peary said.

Personnel from the Maine State Police, Old Town and Bangor assisted in the accident reconstruction.
