SEBOEIS, Maine — A Howland man was killed late Sunday night and two others were taken to area hospitals when the truck they were in crashed on the Seboeis Road, Penobscot County Deputy Chief Troy Morton said on Monday.

Richard McKechnie Jr., 26, was pronounced dead at the scene, Morton said. Another man, David Stenzel, 31, of Enfield, was taken by LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

A third man, Christopher Vainio, 24 of Enfield, was taken by ambulance to Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln.

The fatal crash occurred around 9:40 p.m., Sunday near 2145 Seboeis Road. Police say the 2007 Dodge Ram truck in which the three were traveling crashed into tree.

Stenzel was listed in critical condition on Monday morning, and Vainio was in serious condition, Morton said.

Stenzel’s condition was upgraded to stable on Monday evening. No update on Vainio’s condition was available.
