BANGOR, Maine — The medical condition of a Holden man who reportedly was beaten and pushed off a second-story balcony early Sunday morning on Essex Street has improved.

The 20-year old victim, who remains at Eastern Maine Medical Center, initially was listed in critical condition. As of Tuesday morning, his condition had been upgraded to fair, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.

The victim remained in fair condition late Tuesday night, an EMMC nursing supervisor said. His name is being withheld.

In the meantime, a Bangor man arrested in connection with the incident remained at Penobscot County Jail late Tuesday night, unable to make $5,000 cash bail, a jail official said.

Lucas A. Glidden, 32, was charged with felony aggravated assault after police were called to an apartment building at 202-208 Essex St. for a report that someone had been pushed off a porch. The Class B felony is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Court documents state that the victim landed on his head, suffering serious injuries. Glidden reportedly then carried the victim back up to the balcony and into his apartment.
