BROWNVILLE JUNCTION, Maine — An ATV accident killed a Derby man Friday, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Alfred Shaw, 32, lost control of his machine on a trail covered with leaves and was thrown off, according to a press release.
Shaw reportedly was traveling north on the railroad bed in Brownville Junction at approximately 1:30 p.m. Friday with two other riders when the accident occurred. According to the DIF&W release, another member of his group found him unconscious on the trail.
Shaw suffered a head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. He was not wearing a helmet.
Wardens Dan Carroll and Jeremy Kemp are investigating the accident, according to DIF&W.
Brownville and Milo police, Mayo Regional Hospital Emergency Medical Services of Dover-Foxcroft and the Brownville Fire Department assisted at the scene.
