Speed apparent factor when car hits pole

PENOBSCOT, Maine — Power was knocked out in the area at about 9:30 Monday night after a vehicle struck a utility pole on Route 15 near the intersection with Route 199.

At least one person, an unidentified female, was ejected from the vehicle. She was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor after the accident in Penobscot.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and Penobscot Fire Department sent personnel to the scene of the accident.

The vehicle was traveling north on Route 15 at a high rate of speed when it went off the road, struck a driveway culvert and a utility pole, rolled over and went end over end twice before coming to rest on its wheels off the side of the road, according to Hancock County sheriff’s Deputy Ben Astbury.

It is believed only one person was traveling in the vehicle. Members of the Fire Department did a sweep of the accident scene when they first arrived in search of anyone else who might have been in the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office is investigating. Authorities were reconstructing the accident Monday night.
