WASHBURN – Eugene L. Young, 88, a faithful husband, father and grandfather, died Friday morning, Feb. 23, 2007, at Cary Medical Center, Caribou. He was born May 13, 1918, in Caribou, the son of John B. and Anastasia (Derosier) Young. Eugene graduated from Mapleton High School. He married Gladys “Peggy” Kinney, June 4, 1938. He worked as a self-employed carpenter and as a foreman for the A.E. Flewelling Co., Crouseville; was a member of the Washburn Pentecostal Church, served on the board for a number of years; and worked many hours building the youth center at the church. His favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm. He enjoyed gardening and always shared his bounty with friends and neighbors. He is survived by his wife of Washburn; three sons, John Eugene Young and his wife, Dianna, of Caribou, Dennis Gordon Young of Egypt and Robert Wayne Young and his wife, Barbara, of Peabody, Mass.; seven brothers, two sisters; two grandchildren, Tanya Belanger and her husband, Clair, of Presque Isle and Stephen John Young and his wife, Kristen, of Fort Fairfield; a great-granddaughter, Abigail Joan Young of Fort Fairfield, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Joan Carol Young. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home 30 Church St., Presque Isle and 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at Washburn Pentecostal Church. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Bruce Blakney officiating. Spring interment will be at Crouseville Cemetery, Crouse-ville.
