OWLS HEAD – Elizabeth M. Pease, 84, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland. Born March 5, 1919, in Old Town, she was the daughter of Allan F. and Elizabeth M. Hilchey McAlary. As a young girl she moved with her family to Rockland, where she attended school, graduating from Rockland High School in 1937. She was a 1941 graduate of the University of Maine, Orono where she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. Moving to Portland, Mrs. Pease sold war bonds for a short period of time, then returned to Rockland to work with the local draft board. In 1945 she began her career as a Social Worker with the Department of Human Services, retiring in 1981. She married Clyde F. Pease on Nov. 16, 1946, in Rockland. Mrs. Pease belonged to the former Miriam Rebekah Lodge of Rockland, as well as the former Rockland Women’s Club. For many years she enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage on Megunticook Lake. Following her retirement, her hobbies included crocheting and knitting. Predeceased by her brother, Francis McAlary in October of 2003, Mrs. Pease is survived by her husband of 57 years; and her daughter, Glen E. Pease, both of Owls Head. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 8, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. The Rev. Dr. D. Elizabeth Mauro will officiate. Interment will be in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, Appleton. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841.
