LEWISTON – Candide Rose Corriveau Michaud, formerly of St. Petersburg, Fla., Cape Elizabeth, Farmington, and a longtime resident of Lewiston, passed away at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Lewiston, on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, into the everlasting peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, surrounded by the love and care of her devoted family. Born in Frenchville, she was the first daughter to George’s and Roseanna Cote Corriveau. The paternal family provided a loving rural Christian environment that encompassed three younger sisters, Juliette, predeceased in 1991, Gabrielle, predeceased in 2003; one surviving sister, Sr. Candide Corriveau, Daughter of Wisdom, of St. Agatha; four brothers, Camille, predeceased at seven months after his birth, Fidele, predeceased at the age of seven years old, surviving brothers, Gedeon and wife, Aline, of Frenchville, Roland and wife, Doris, of East Haddam, Conn. On May 1, 1939, in Frenchville, at St. Luce Roman Catholic Church, she married her beloved husband of 64 years, Dennis Solomon Michaud. As a mother, Candide instilled into her family a strong sense of spirituality, hard work, love, and, the importance of an abiding faith and peace as the fabric of their family relationships. After her large family was raised she worked for many years as a nurse’s aide at Mercy Hospital in Portland. Candide was a past member of the Sodality of the Ladies of St. Anne at Holy Family Church for over 23 years, as well as the Assumption Society of New England. Her loving spouse predeceased Candide on Dec. 6, 2003. Candide is survived by her seven sons and spouses, Stanley of Montgomery, Ala., Leon and wife, Ruth, of Bradenton, Fla., Bertrand and wife, Jeanette, of Old Orchard Beach, Dennis Jr. and wife, Doris “Delia,” of Bangor, Donald and wife, Carol, of Danville, Roland of Augusta, Richard and wife, Marilyn, of Scarborough; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nephews and nieces. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Ss. Peter & Paul Church in Lewiston, with Fr. Bob Vaillancourt of Hampden; a special family friend, as principal celebrant. Viewing hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, at the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home, corners of Pine and Webster Streets in Lewiston. Donations may be made in her memory to the Ss.
