The Dutton House Inn

By Linda Coan O'Kresik, Special to the BDN

The building that once housed Bangor’s poor, Beal College and Manna Ministries recently opened as the Dutton House Inn. The brick building at 629 Main St. in Bangor was purchased by the city in 1827 to serve as an almshouse for the poor, sick, inmates and even those thought to be insane. Dutton Properties bought the building for $390,000 last fall after Machias Savings Bank foreclosed on its former owner, Manna Ministries.
