100 years ago today Edmund Muskie was born. A Rumford native, Muskie served as Maine’s governor from 1955 until 1959. He was a member of the U.S. Senate from 1959 to 1980 and served under President Jimmy Carter for a year starting in 1980 as Secretary of State. Muskie died at the age of 81 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Here is a selection of photographs of Muskie from the Bangor Daily News archives.
