With the Waterfront Concert Series set to start in Bangor, stage construction has brought massive cranes, rolls of new turf and construction workers dangling in mid-air from as high as 69 feet. It took about 16 tractor-trailers to deliver the stage, which can hold more than 200,000 pounds.

At any given time, up to 55 workers worked to build the stage. According to Waterfront Concerts promoter Alex Gray, construction will be finished as early as Tuesday, with the possibility of work being wrapped up mid-Wednesday.

This year, thousands of concert-goers will have the opportunity to hear music by Sting, Phish, Kenny Chesney and more. The 2013 opener is Motley Crue, who will perform May 16.

BDN photographers Gabor Degre and Carter McCall went out during construction to photograph the striking scene.
