A 91-year-old World War II veteran got some long-awaited service medals on Sept. 28. Bernard Jackson (second from right) received more than half a dozen at a ceremony at Camp Keyes in Augusta. The medals include the American Campaign Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Jackson enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served during the campaign in the southern Philippine Islands. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Presenting the medals to Jackson are (from left) Maj. Gen. Bill Libby of the Maine National Guard and Sen. Susan Collins. Warrant Officer Richard Berthiaume (right), Jackson's son-in-law, also took part in the ceremony.
