SACO, Maine — Saco & Biddeford Savings has announced a $6,000 pledge to the Scarborough Library, becoming a lead sponsor for Maine’s first 3M Cloud Library.
Scarborough is the only library in Maine to offer the 3M Cloud Library and is one of the first hundred to offer it in the United States. The cutting edge system delivers new standards of technology and learning to library card holders, as our shifting educational environment settles into the era of eBooks, and remote renting and purchasing.
“The response to the Cloud Library has been better than we envisioned. We’re seeing wait lists for our titles. Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution, sponsored the kiosk and our Maine (digital) bookshelf; they are a great friend to us,” said Nancy Crowell, Scarborough Library’s director. “We have over 450 titles, and we are adding more all the time. As new sponsors come onboard they have the opportunity to sponsor a virtual shelf of titles. Our goal is to continue to grow our virtual library.”
“Initiatives of this caliber are important to bring new technologies to our community and provide access to those who otherwise couldn’t afford e-readers or tablets. Saco & Biddeford Savings is proud to sponsor the 3M Cloud Library and we hope other businesses join us.” says Don Lauzier, Vice President of Community Relations, Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution.
The 3M Cloud Library was launched at Scarborough Library six months ago. Since the launch, hundreds of eBooks, including best sellers, have been downloaded in seconds to compatible devices and 3M eReaders available for checkout.
Scarborough Public Library cardholders can learn more about the Cloud Library through a dedicated page on their website http://www.scarboroughlibrary.org/eBooks/eBooks.html. Library cards are available for purchase to individuals living outside of Scarborough.
