Northern Prosthetics & Orthotics awarded highest level accreditation

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Northern Prosthetics & Orthotics has received a three-year accreditation award in prosthetics and orthotics by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics, Inc. (ABC).

Northern Prosthetics & Orthotics was recognized for achievements in organizational management, patient care standards, quality assurance, supplier compliance and facility and safety management.

This award represents the highest level of accreditation achievable in the profession of orthotics and prosthetics, according to a press release.

“Northern Prosthetics & Orthotics has demonstrated its commitment to the provision of quality patient care services by seeking and attaining ABC accreditation,” said Catherine Carter, ABC’s executive director, in a press release. “ABC has developed the highest standards for accreditation in the industry and is proud to include Northern Prosthetics & Orthotics among our over 2500 accredited patient care facilities.”

Northern Prosthetics & Orthotics has been offering prosthetics and orthotics services in Presque Isle, throughout Aroostook County, and neighboring New Brunswick since 2007.  It specializes in both upper and lower extremity prosthetics, as well as all orthotic devices, including foot orthotics, ankle foot orthosis, knee ankle foot orthosis, thoraco-lumbo-sacral orthosis, and cervical orthosis  Northern Prosthetics & Orthotics also offers the Genium microprocessor prosthetic knee and is trained to offer the new Michelangelo Hand from Otto Bock.

In addition, Northern Prosthetics & Orthotics has an ABC-certified mastectomy fitter to provide mastectomy prosthetics and supplies as well as lymphedema supplies for patients in need of various types of compression garments.

The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics, Inc. has been credentialing practitioners and organizations since 1948 in accordance with established standards of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient care.
