Maine-Based Franchise Coffee News® Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Everyone is familiar with the free for the taking, easy-to-read, one-page publication called Coffee News® – the one found in coffee shops and restaurants all over the world. The short, often funny, paper is just the right size to enjoy over a cup of coffee.

What people may not know is that the Coffee News® is the only major franchise with its corporate headquarters in Maine. Launched in 1988 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, founder Jean Daum developed the concept as a way to provide local businesses with an affordable way to advertise while providing a fun, positive read for restaurant patrons. In 1995, Bill Buckley opened the first Coffee News® franchise in the United States in Bangor, ME and took over the worldwide operations in 2008. Buckley brought the Franchise Headquarters to his home state of Maine, where over 1.5 million copies of Coffee News@ are printed and shipped to publishers throughout North America every month. Coffee News® has employees in Houlton, Bangor and Portland; as well as head offices in Canada, Venezuela, Poland, Spain, South Africa, and New Zealand.

The Coffee News® that everyone knows and loves is now read by five million people per week in 15 countries and has become the largest weekly restaurant publication in the world. It is printed in nine different languages and is one of the most successful franchise publications in North America.

Coffee News® has consistently been highly ranked in Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500 for the last ten years. This year Coffee News® placed first in Advertising Services, 17th in Top Low-Cost Franchise, and 27th in Top Home-Based Businesses as reported by Entrepreneur Magazine.

Coffee News® started as a simple idea 25 years ago, to provide a source of positive entertainment in restaurants and a place for local businesses to advertise. Today, Coffee News® is a successful international franchise operation, and is proud to call Maine its’ home.
