PORTLAND, Maine — Jean Hoffman, president and CEO of Putney, Inc., will launch the University of New England’s (UNE) College of Pharmacy Awards and Honors program with a keynote address that highlights the important role that the entrepreneurial spirit plays in achieving the American dream.
Hoffman has more than 30 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry and has launched two successful companies.
The Awards and Honors Ceremony recognizes outstanding students and faculty members in the College of Pharmacy who have gone above and beyond in categories such as academics, professionalism, leadership and community service. Recipients of the awards and scholarships are not notified prior to the event, adding an element of excitement to the annual awards ceremony.
Gayle A. Brazeau, Ph.D., professor and dean of the UNE College of Pharmacy, says she is eager for Hoffman to address the students and faculty of the College of Pharmacy because Hoffman embodies the key characteristics that the school instills in its student pharmacists.
“Specifically, her passion and commitment to others, the importance of serving our community, the necessity of using sound evidence in decision making and the value of intellectual curiosity,” says Brazeau in a press release.
This year’s Awards and Honors Ceremony will be held at from 5 to 7 p.m. April 25, at the UNE College of Pharmacy campus in Portland. Brazeau notes that 2013 marks a university milestone — the first group of Doctor of Pharmacy students will be graduating this May.
