Indian Island teen selected for U.S. Martial Arts Team

INDIAN ISLAND, Maine — Alex Goslin, 13, daughter of Anthony and Karin Goslin of Indian Island, has been training in karate for a year. She recently expressed interest in martial arts competition to her teacher. In turn, he contacted an associate who coordinated an interview with the head coach of the U.S. Martial Arts Team. After an interview and tryouts, Alex got word that she had been appointed as a member of Team USA.

Alex’s acceptance to the team came six months after regular team try outs. Therefore she was six months

behind her teammates in training and practice. Within two months Alex had progressed to a performance level that earned her a primary spot on the team. Alex was invited to represent the United States at the World

Martial Arts Games in Austria in August.

Currently, Alex is training with the U.S. Martial Arts Team in Swansea, IL.

The U.S.M.A. Team is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. This means that all costs associated with travel, competition and gear is covered by donations, sponsorship and fundraisers.

Alex, her family and teammates have been working to earn the funds needed to compete in Austria, but donations are being sought to assist their effort. To make a donation, send a check to: Anthony T. Goslin
