BANGOR, Maine — The Cross Family, founders and owners of Cross Insurance, one of the largest independent insurance providers in New England, has been named the recipient of the Boy Scouts of America’s 2013 Katahdin Area Council Distinguished Citizens Award for their dedication to, and involvement with, community organizations and activities.
Cross Insurance Agency Executive Vice President Brent Cross will accept the award during the Katahdin Area Council’s 17th Annual Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine Wednesday, Sept. 18 on behalf of the entire Cross Insurance family, which includes 96-year-old patriarch and Founder Woodrow Cross, President Royce Cross, and Executive Vice President Jonathan Cross. Brent Cross currently serves on the Katahdin Area Council’s Board of Directors.
“It is truly an honor to accept this wonderful award from an organization that resonates very deeply with my entire family,” said Brent Cross. “Our personal and professional relationships with the Boy Scouts have meant so much to us over the years and we hope they only continue to grow stronger.”
Those who receive the award are not necessarily Boy Scout volunteers, but rather individuals who personify what the Boy Scouts stand for – good citizenship, outstanding moral fiber and a dedication to others, and for living their lives by the Scout Oath and Law.
“The Katahdin Area Council’s executive board is pleased to award the Cross Family the 2013 Distinguished Citizens Award for what they have done and will continue to do for the Bangor community, state of Maine and New England area,” said Marshall Steinmann, Katahdin Area Council Scout Executive. “Their leadership, character and moral standards serve as a great example to all the Scouts involved with the Katahdin Area Council.”
Prior “Distinguished Citizens” honored by the Katahdin Area Council include Senator Susan Collins; Governor John E. Baldacci; The Cianbro Companies Chairman and CEO Peter G. Vigue; and local community leaders, Nelson and Carla Durgin.
The 17th Annual Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner commencing at 6:45 p.m.
