AAUW of Maine Achievement Citation Award

AAUW (American Association of University Women) of Maine is delighted to honor Sarah Standiford with its 2014 Achievement Citation Award, which will be presented on the evening of May 2, 2014 during the annual state convention, which will be held in Bath. She was nominated by the Bath-Brunswick Branch of AAUW. The AAUW mission is equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research.

Ms. Standiford has been an advocate for Maine women’s economic security, social justice and reproductive rights. Since August of 2011, she has been the Regional Field Manager of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

She was first employed by Planned Parenthood of Northern New England from 1998 to 2003 as a Community Organizing Manager. Subsequently, from 2003 through August 2011, she served as the Executive Director of the Maine Women’s Lobby and Maine Women’s Policy Center. While Executive Director, Sarah received numerous awards.

Appointments include: the Study Commission Regarding Livable Wages (2005-2006); the Governor’s Council on Jobs, Innovation and the Economy (2007); the Commission to Develop Strategies to Increase Postsecondary Access for Low-Wage Low Skilled Adults (2007-2008); and the Maine Jobs Council, The Women’s Employment Issues Committee (2005-2010). She has also served as a board member for the Maine Association of Nonprofits (2006-2013), on the Steering Committee for Engage Maine, on the Advisory Committee for the Friends School of Portland (2008 to present) and on the Maine NEW Leadership Advisory Board (2009 through present).
