WATERVILLE, Maine — Cici Frattasio had a hat trick to help Wesleyan University overcome an early 1-0 deficit on the way to a 4-1 victory over Colby College in NESCAC women’s hockey Saturday at Alfond Rink.
The Mules (0-9-2 overall, 0-5-1 NESCAC) opened the scoring at 1:45 of the opening period. Kailey Buxbaum won a face-off back to Grace Crowell, who took a shot from the right point that managed to trickle through the pads of goaltender Allegra Grant and over the goal line.
The Cardinals (5-4-1, 2-2-0 NESCAC) made it 1-1 after one period on Frattasio’s first goal of the game with 2:47 to play. Grace Keogh won a puck near the blue line and raced toward the goal. Her hard shot was saved by goaltender Halley Fine, but the rebound was knocked in at the left post by Frattasio.
Wesleyan had a 5-on-3 advantage on the game-winning goal at 4:49 of the second period. Fine made a terrific diving stop and was able to deflect the puck to the right corner. Abigail Rutt picked up the loose puck, skated into space, and found Frattasio with a nice pass to the left post.
The Cardinals had their second power play goal when Ellery Sarosi stole a puck on the right boards. Her hard shot gave the Cardinals a 3-1 margin.
Frattasio made it three goals when she picked up a Colby turnover and hit a shot from center ice into the empty net with 1:55 remaining.
Grant finished with 24 saves and allowed just one goal on the weekend. Fine made 27 stops for the Mules
