FARMINGTON, Maine. – University of Maine at Farmington women’s soccer (0-1) could not hold off Wellesley College (2-0) on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 non-conference loss at Leib Field.
Ashley Gleason (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) scored the first goal of the season for UMF in the 66th minute. Bridget Humphrey (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy) tapped a pass to Gleason on the right side of the box and Gleason fired a shot into the top left corner of the net.
Wellesley answered six minutes later with a breakaway goal from Carley Phillips. The Blue added two more goals in the final ten minutes with the go-ahead goal coming from Kyla Petrie on a penalty kick. Maddie Carlborg tacked on an insurance goal for the Blue in the 84th minute with the assist coming from Phillips.
Kiana Thompson (Industry, Maine/Mt. Blue) made 10 saves in net for the Beavers. Olivia Reckley stopped five shots for the Blue to pick up the victory.
UMaine-Farmington hosts the Southern Maine on Wednesday at Mt. Blue High School.
