Senior center back Samantha Wagg collected a hat trick and freshman goalie Mia Borley made eight saves as the University of Maine’s field hockey team advance to the America East final by upsetting home-standing Stanford University 3-0 in Palo Alto, California on Saturday.

It was UMaine’s third straight win and the Black Bears improved to 16-4.

The Black Bears will take on rival Albany, a 4-3 semifinal winner over Pacific, in Sunday’s championship game.

No. 22 Stanford wound up 14-6.

Wagg opened the scoring at the 26:30 mark as she converted off a penalty corner with Riley Field and Emily Hindle picking up assists.
She expanded the lead just 3:23 later with a shot that deflected in off a Stanford stick.

The America East East Division all-star capped the scoring with a penalty stroke in the second half. It was her 10th goal of the season.
Kelsey Bing had six saves for Stanford.

Stanford had a 13-12 edge in shots at goal and a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners.
