EAST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The University of Maine field hockey team fell to No. 25 Monmouth on Friday afternoon, evening their America East record to 1-1 so far on the year.

The two teams traded goals in the first five minutes of play, with Brianna Ricker answering a Monmouth goal 4:12 into the contest to make it 1-1. That’s as close as the Black Bears would get though, as the Hawks scored three unanswered to cruise to a 4-2 victory.

Ricker’s goal was her tenth of the season and 21st point of the year, already just three shy of her career-best 24 points during her sophomore season with still six games to go in the regular season.
Chloe Walton added her fourth goal of the season in the 56th minute, off an assist from Madisyn Hartley.
Maine outshot Monmouth overall by a 10-6 margin, but on-goal tallies were slanted 5-4 in the Hawks’ favor.
The Black Bears also managed to outpace Monmouth in corners, 6-2.
With the loss, Maine falls to 3-8 on the season and 1-1 within the America East.
The Black Bears return home to Orono on Sunday for their next matchup, a noontime non-conference tilt with Quinnipiac.
