UMFK Men's college basketball 70 at Fisher 60

Lynn, Massachusetts—The University of Maine at Fort Kent men’s basketball team ended the first semester in style with a second half come-from-behind victory over Fisher College, 70-60, on Saturday afternoon.

The Bengals played a relatively decent first half defensively holding a high scoring Fisher team to just 35 points, however the Bengals were awful offensively, shooting just 31.4%, to trail 35-28. Anthony Knight was the lone bright spot with 13 points for UMFK.

In the second half, UMFK made a concerted defensive effort to force Falcon jump-shots and Fisher was a dismal 3-23 from three point range in the second half and shot just 24.4% overall.

The Bengals outscored Fisher 28-10 over the first 14 minutes of the second half to build a 56-45 lead and would make nine of 12 from the line in the final two minutes to hold on. UMFK scored 25 fast break points in the second half and went to the line 22 times compared to just two for Fisher.

Knight was even better in the second half and finished with a game-high and career-high tying, 30 points. He also had seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. He finished 9-11 from the free throw line.

Johnathan Caldwell was the only other double-figure scorer with 12. Bobby Syvanthong posted his third consecutive double digit rebounding game with 15 boards. UMFK out rebounded Fisher, 44-40 and held the Falcons to 7-33 from long range over the 40 minutes.

UMFK has now won eight of their last 10 contests, with one of those losses coming to NCAA Division I, University of Vermont. The Bengals enter the semester break with a 10-6 record.
